Listener discretion is advised. Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew. Loveline Coast to Coast.
1:13
Voiceover
Hey, everybody. It's Loveline. I'm Adam Corolla. It's Dr. Drew over there. Phone number 1-800-LOVE-191. Dr. Drew, board-certified physician, and addiction medicine specialist. And we are very pleased and surprised to bring to the show tonight Robert Downey Jr. and of course Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, all to promote a very worthy cause. It's a benefit, a three-day benefit for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, which is going on this coming weekend.
1:46
Drew
13th, 14th, 15th. Unbelievable.
1:48
Adam
Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Yeah, you got to wonder if they have this at the Idaho Free Clinic. The Boise Free Clinic? Yes, some local radio and like a plate spinner out there raising money. But this is a very worthy cause. I went last year one night. I didn't perform or do anything like that, but I did get some free booze and rub some elbows. And it's quite an event. And there was what? How much was raised last year, Drew? Do you got that?
2:19
Figures I have.
2:19
Drew
Five hundred thousand dollars.
2:20
Half a million dollars right in front of me.
2:22
Adam
Yeah. Really? And have you now, now, Robert?
2:26
Guest
That's a lot of potatoes.
2:28
Adam
You haven't utilized the free clinic.
2:30
Guest
Have you out here? No. I was more East Coast at the time that I needed the free clinic desperately.
2:36
Drew
Adam strangely has gone to free clinics.
2:38
Adam
Yes.
2:39
Drew
We have not discussed this in quite some time. Is this the one you went to?
2:42
Adam
Well, I don't know. I went to the Nazi lesbian clinic in Santa Monica, but it may have been under the same umbrella. I'm not sure.
2:49
Drew
I don't think so.
2:50
Adam
Well, I had a little yeast on the Peckeroo, as I like to say. One of the few guys I know was able to contract yeast on his penis. He had a little yeasty on the Peckeroo. It was a humiliating experience, but it was free and my penis is still with me.
3:05
I have rocked the clinic and I owe my penile health to that early visit to a clinic, but that was a different clinic also. That was a West Hollywood clinic. My high school years, something was going on.
3:17
Drew
Most adolescent adults now use Planned Parenthood and free clinics as their health care. They really see it as something that's there to serve them and indeed they are more geared up to handle young people than the average doctor's offices where things are very sort of threatening and it's where their parents might find out about it.
3:31
Gear up the clinics because if you think about it, we live in a pretty rich country and not everyone has the access to getting the health care that according to Dana Hollister is a right for all humans who live in this country.
3:44
Adam
Well, and even speaking of money, it probably saves you money as a society to get people taken care of early on at a lesser price and it would be down the road to take care of more advanced things. I mean, it's a good bang for your buck, isn't it?
4:00
Drew
You would think so, but you can function like an HMO and just make sure people kind of pass along.
4:04
Adam
Oh, listen, I don't want to cure anybody, I just want to get them in and out. Just patch them up.
4:09
Guest
Stabilize and release.
4:10
Adam
That's right. That's right. Send them on the road again.
4:13
Drew
But the line up, the line up is now public knowledge?
4:16
Caller
The line up for this show?
4:18
Drew
Yeah.
4:18
Caller
No one has any idea what the line up is. All right. Well, I'm kidding. It's going to be some plate spinners.
4:23
Drew
And a local radio person from Boise, Idaho. Okay.
4:26
Adam
Right. Mike Baker, the deal maker from the Idaho Pontiac. He's going to be out there giving away bumper stickers and windbreakers. No, Elton John and Sting on Thursday night.
4:40
Guest
The Chili Peppers.
4:41
Adam
And the Jaguars who have been on this show. And Amy Mann who has been on this show on Friday night. Then Saturday night, Third Eye Blind and the Jaguars again.
4:50
Caller
And from what I understand, Sting is going to be doing personalized condom fittings before and after the performance.
4:56
Drew
These cause a prolonged erection.
4:58
Adam
8-hour tantric condom fittings. And by the way, what a condom lasts. I mean, how many condoms do you think Sting would have to go through in an 8-hour sex session?
5:07
Drew
You know, we've never actually addressed that in condom education. If you go more than X period of time, put on a new one. I mean, tires only go 20,000 miles, right?
5:15
Caller
The idea is to get a metaphysical condom happening.
5:18
Drew
There you go.
5:18
Caller
Where it's not actually material of this world.
5:21
Drew
A virtual condom.
5:22
Guest
It's another prolo platform for this kind of discussion. I think many people have the reservoir of energy to go through several dozen condoms, with or without chlamydia.
5:36
Adam
Right. But do they have the endurance? I mean, can they hold off from the ejaculation? That's the thing.
5:45
Drew
That's what he's saying.
5:47
Adam
Well, I mean, I could move my ass for five hours, but I couldn't hold my nuts for more than five minutes.
5:52
Caller
You're talking about dancing. You know what?
5:54
Drew
Yeah. How do people buy tickets?
5:59
Caller
Robert, tell everyone how they can buy tickets.
6:01
Guest
Well, presently, our website, www.silverliningsilverlake.com. our website, www.silverliningsilverlake.com. As a matter of fact, they got so many hits today that it kind of blitzed, even though it supposedly has a, can handle a bunch. But that's the way to get through it. Unless someone tells me that there's something else that's supposed to happen. www.silverliningsilverlake.com.
6:28
Drew
No spaces.
6:29
Adam
And how much are the tickets? Are they asking for donations or how does that work? Because I imagine 30 bucks wouldn't be enough for the talent that's on it.
6:37
Caller
It's a fat and foreboding price tag, but I think the idea is to dig deep and get your corporate love on and maybe get some tax write-offs or whatever. Tickets ranging, that's like $100, $200, $300, $400. You can buy a table, you can get seats, you can, like you said, you can rub elbows.
6:56
Adam
Right. Well, I was there last year and it's an intimate environment. I mean, it's not like you're going to see Sting and Elton John at the pond. I mean, it's a very intimate environment, so you're paying to get up close and to be comfortable and have a nice seat with some high rollers.
7:12
Drew
Are you guys going to be there all three nights or are we just all going to be on the same night here?
7:16
Guest
I'll be there all three nights.
7:18
Caller
And I'm going to be there as often as I can. I'm also recording a record right now, so.
7:22
Adam
Yeah, and Drew and I are going to be doing some hosting duties on Friday night when we're there.
7:28
Caller
That's my night.
7:29
Adam
We're glad to be there.
7:30
Caller
We're going to share the stage.
7:32
Adam
Yeah, and really, I got to be honest, I'm really glad you guys came on the show and I'm surprised because somebody called me and said I should do this and I said who's going to be there and then I said they should do the show and I thought it would never ever happen. But you're men of your words and we appreciate you being here. All right, you want to take some calls?
7:52
Let's go.
7:54
Caller
I'm excited about the calls.
7:55
Drew
Yeah, you kept saying, call, call.
7:56
Caller
I like to communicate. Is this really Coast to Coast?
7:59
Drew
Coast to Coast, right now. Angel's 18, she's in Texas.
8:02
Caller
Yeah, I have like two questions. One of them is, my boyfriend, he has always been wanting me to get with another girl. And he knows that I've been by. And well, the other night, he was always wanting to videotape it, either that or see a videotape.
8:19
Adam
Wow. See, this guy keeps pushing. He should start with just the threesome and then break the camera out in the middle of that. But this guy's laying it all on the table.
8:28
Caller
Yeah. Well, a couple of nights ago, me and my girlfriend, he knows about her. We videotaped it and then I told him about it. That's like the next morning. Because I'd called him from her house and he got all mad and everything. And she just turned around and told him and said, this is what she said you wanted, so we got it. And he still got upset about it.
8:53
Caller
Maybe because he wasn't there.
8:55
Caller
Well, see, he said he wanted to be there too.
8:58
Drew
This is so characteristic of what happens when you bring other people in. Your relationship suffers. You never know how the other person is going to react.
9:05
Caller
It is tricky.
9:06
Caller
See, I have a boyfriend and a girlfriend.
9:08
Drew
I understand. It doesn't really work to do that. It's nice on paper, but in reality, this is the kind of stuff that happens. People's feelings get hurt. And the other reality is, the way humans are set up, you never get to actually experience real connection, real intimacy if you're distracted a ton of other places.
9:25
Adam
Well, does he want to see the tape? I mean, I think you could make it right. Oh, he did.
9:30
Caller
Still upset. He kept the tape.
9:32
Drew
That made it right, huh? Oh, he kept the tape, Adam.
9:35
Guest
He's not mad, but he kept the tape.
9:36
Adam
He was so distracted, he only beat off eight times.
9:39
Caller
He sat and watched the tape, and we all went up to his...
9:42
Guest
Were you allowed to sit with him?
9:44
Caller
Huh?
9:44
Guest
Were you allowed to sit with him when he was watching the tape?
9:47
Caller
Both of us.
9:49
Caller
Specifically, what is on the tape?
9:52
Caller
Well, basically everything. We went from just kissing and feeling and touching and licking and everything.
10:00
Drew
Maybe we should introduce these guys to gambling right now.
10:02
Adam
Drew, don't cut her off in the middle of licking.
10:04
Drew
No.
10:05
Adam
It goes through the kissing and the touching, and then you jump in and put the kibosh on the whole thing.
10:10
Caller
Well, we also used all sorts of stuff. I mean, we got real kinky with it.
10:15
Drew
Angel 18.
10:16
Adam
All right. Well, first off, you know my theory about naming your kids Angel.
10:20
Caller
Not to mention being raised in Texas.
10:22
Adam
Right. Yeah. You got two strikes against you.
10:26
Caller
Or for you. I'm not sure.
10:27
Adam
He saw the tape and he was angered by it.
10:30
Caller
No, he liked the tape.
10:31
Adam
Right. But does he think you're cheating on him?
10:34
Caller
No.
10:35
Adam
So why is he angry?
10:37
Caller
Because he didn't actually get to sit down and watch us do it.
10:40
Guest
Which is kind of what he wanted to do. I think he was pretty specific.
10:44
Caller
Right.
10:45
Two chicks in the same bed.
10:47
Adam
Do them. So are you planning on doing a second session with him?
10:53
Caller
We did.
10:54
Adam
You did a second session with him?
10:56
Caller
Right after the tape.
10:57
Drew
And then how'd that go?
10:58
Let's go to the tape.
11:00
Adam
Right.
11:00
Caller
He wanted it again and we ended up pulling an all-nighter.
11:04
Caller
So what is the specific dilemma as your boyfriend somehow feels dis because you're also loving this girl at the same time?
11:11
Drew
I have a bigger question.
11:12
Why did you call?
11:13
Adam
Well he's pissed because he wanted to add a fourth.
11:16
Drew
Why did you call Angel?
11:17
Caller
Why did I call? Because I've also got another boyfriend on this line.
11:20
Drew
There you go. Alright.
11:21
Adam
I'm ready to gamble.
11:22
Drew
Yeah, I am too. You ready?
11:23
Adam
Yeah. You guys got any money? Hold on a second.
11:25
Drew
I didn't bring any money with me. It's out in the car. Want to go to the car?
11:28
Adam
No, Drew. I don't want you to go to the car.
11:30
Drew
Alright.
11:31
Adam
Here's how gambling works on this show. We haven't done it in a while. We usually don't do it this far into a call, but she's around. We know something's up with Angel. Something in her past created her present. And we try to shine a light on that by doing some gambling only on her past. Now, we know the situation she's in today. And you can dip back as, you know, alcoholic dad or sexually abused. Or sometimes you can play the Everything's Fine card and make your money that way. But let's just say a buck all the way around. Now, you want me to start to set the table here?
12:04
Caller
Someone's going to have to spot me. My money's in the trunk.
12:07
Adam
All right, I'm going with the old-fashioned sexual abuse. Step dad. All right. All right. Anthony?
12:16
Caller
Go ahead, doctor.
12:22
Drew
Chaotic family system, like, somebody's badly addicted to the family and she got sexually abused like a neighbor in the neighborhood. Yeah.
12:31
Adam
Okay. So you're saying, uh, that a drug abuse, what drug?
12:35
Drew
I don't know.
12:35
Adam
All right. Well, you got to be more specific. Alcohol.
12:37
Drew
Alcohol.
12:38
Adam
Of course there's alcohol there. Opiates. All right. Robert?
12:42
Guest
Relatively normal, um, system.
12:46
Adam
Right.
12:46
Guest
Nuclear family. A little bit of stripping.
12:50
Adam
Little bit of stripping. But stripping when she was eight or, or this is mom stripping?
12:53
Guest
Mid-teens.
12:54
Adam
Her. Mid-teens stripping. Interesting. Never going to make a penny.
12:59
Caller
I'm going to go with the, uh, the standard, um, got kidnapped and forced to watch Russ Meyer films at the age of eight.
13:07
Drew
But you could, you could go with that she, that she had, some sexual addiction comes from having been exposed to excessive sort of pornographic material at like age five or eight.
13:15
Caller
I'm going to say she got overexposed at a young age.
13:18
Drew
Good.
13:18
Adam
Okay. So she saw Valley Beneath Ultra Vixens one too many times at a tender age. Angel?
13:25
Caller
Yeah.
13:25
Adam
Okay. Tell us about the past.
13:28
Caller
Past? Okay. At 15, I was sexually abused, but it wasn't by a neighbor.
13:33
Adam
Who did this?
13:35
Caller
Huh?
13:35
Adam
Who?
13:36
Caller
It was a very close friend of my mother's.
13:39
Drew
At 15?
13:41
Caller
At 15. He was 35.
13:42
Drew
Yeah.
13:43
Adam
But we want to go before that even.
13:44
Drew
I think some have around 8 to 10, huh?
13:46
Adam
Where's your dad?
13:47
Caller
My dad, he wasn't with us. Me and my mother and my brother.
13:51
Adam
So you guys are, everyone's married?
13:53
Caller
Yeah.
13:54
Adam
Hmm. And your dad, what's he do? Drive a truck?
13:59
Caller
No, he works for, he's basically a street inspector.
14:04
Adam
All right.
14:05
Caller
So in there lies the normalcy that Robert referred to.
14:08
Adam
All right. But was he an alcoholic? He abused any drugs?
14:12
Drew
No.
14:12
Caller
Ha.
14:13
Adam
Hmm.
14:14
Caller
I just want to say real quickly, if I can say to Angel, that just about everyone I've ever met has been sexually abused, so don't feel weird or...
14:23
Drew
It's a common problem...
14:23
Caller
.or different or like, you know, messed up because that everyone that I know has been somehow sexually abused. And I think the thing to do is just talk about it and realize it's not the shame that you want to...
14:35
Drew
That shame, yeah, shame becomes sort of an organizing property of the personality when there's been sexual abuse. And really what the abuse does is just sort of reorganize. When people talk about reorganizing one's love map or arousal maps, where it sort of solders in a circuitry of arousal that's not normal and it bypasses intimacy and everything that you would normally want from a relationship gets sort of focused on sexuality. And they can't stand the abandonment of real intimacy, so they get five relationships going all at once and all very arousing and crazy.
15:02
Adam
Well, who was the guy who did this?
15:05
Caller
It was my mother's best friend husband.
15:08
Adam
I see. And did you ever tell anybody? Did anybody find out?
15:12
Caller
I told my mother the first time it happened and she didn't believe me.
15:15
Drew
I see.
15:16
Adam
What happened more than once?
15:18
Caller
Yeah, it happened for a continuous four months.
15:21
Adam
It's got to be something else there. What's up with your mom that she's so whacked out that she wouldn't understand this or believe this? Or that she would hang out with this guy?
15:29
Caller
Well, she wasn't really hanging out with him. She was hanging out with...
15:32
Drew
But she would let her children be around this a-hole.
15:35
Caller
Well, what happened was that I had gotten kicked out of the house and they didn't want to put me in an orphanage so they had them take over guardianship.
15:43
Adam
Why did they kick you out of the house?
15:45
Caller
Well, my mother had previously gone under a triple bypass surgery.
15:50
Drew
At how old was she?
15:51
Caller
And she was 30 when it was done.
15:54
Drew
And she wasn't doing drugs or alcohol?
15:56
Adam
Triple bypass at 30? At 30?
15:59
Caller
She was 35.
16:00
Adam
Did she work at IHOP or something?
16:02
Drew
No, that's still...
16:05
Adam
So far, I'm getting the money, though, because I had the molestation by the stepdad, but it was a friend of the...
16:10
Drew
Did she smoke four packs a day? How did she get bypassed at 35?
16:14
Caller
Well, it was a family...
16:18
Guest
Hereditary?
16:19
Caller
Yeah.
16:20
Drew
Are you being monitored for that?
16:21
Caller
Yeah, I've been very... I've been very... They've been keeping a very close eye on me, and they say that I'm the healthy one out of the whole family.
16:27
Adam
Well, didn't they tell you no threesomes, though? I mean, my doctor told me that. I had a little arrhythmia, Drew, as they call it, no threesomes.
16:36
Caller
Well, see, what I was weirded out, but what my friends are really weirded out about is that my boyfriend, my second boyfriend, he's married, and it's kind of like what I want to be is like be married but still have somebody on the side.
16:50
Drew
Yeah, that's because you can't tolerate a real relationship, Angel. You were so badly abandoned and being sort of sent out to foster care. There's a lot more here than you're sort of telling us. It's not sort of a routine family system that kicks out a child at 14.
17:03
Guest
Well, particularly not when something's going on that's supposed to bring a family closer together like a mom having a triple bypass. And also, when you're talking about the one fellow who was upset and irrespectively because he had wanted to be on site for this occurrence, so it's a communication problem, too. I mean, do you get something from all three of these goings-on that you can't get just from one?
17:30
Caller
Well, the married guy, he's always there when I need to talk to somebody. I mean, he's very quiet to everybody else. He keeps what I tell him to himself, and...
17:41
Adam
Well, he has to. His wife's going to kick his ass otherwise. Hey, Angel, listen. There's a ton of chaos here. I mean, just a ton. And you're really heading down a bad road. You're going to get pregnant, you're going to get something, some disease.
17:56
Caller
It's safe sex, too.
17:57
Adam
Okay, but when there's like eight penises flying around the room, it's hard to keep track of them all. Right, Drew?
18:02
Drew
Yeah, listen. There's nothing safe but eight penises, okay?
18:05
Adam
Right.
18:05
Drew
But also, you may have post-traumatic stress disorder. You may be trying to manage feelings and affect you're not even aware of right now. This really needs some quiet time.
18:14
Adam
Get some therapy for the rape perpetrated by mom's best friend's husband.
18:19
Drew
How about that?
18:20
Adam
Just start there. Just stop. Just stop for like six months. Just don't do anything. Just go to the bathroom through your pants. Don't even take your pants off. Not even for number two.
18:31
Caller
I like the advice. Get some help for the rape. Chill. Don't try to find love in all the wrong places.
18:36
Drew
You guys can pick these calls if you want.
18:38
Adam
Right.
18:38
Drew
Robert is enjoying the computer.
18:40
Guest
I had no idea that with all these...
18:41
Caller
God bless.
18:42
Guest
Take care, darling.
18:43
Adam
Mike is piece 28. Mike?
18:46
Guest
Yeah.
18:47
Adam
Hey.
18:48
Guest
Hey, what's going on, man?
18:49
Hey, Mike.
18:51
Drew
Mike, what's up? What's up, Mike?
18:53
Guest
Okay, I'm 28 and for the last ten months, I've been dating a 40-year-old. Or I guess you could say dating. We're more or less like screw buddies.
19:04
Drew
As far as you're concerned, how about as far as she's concerned?
19:07
Guest
As far as she's concerned, she is not ready for a relationship.
19:11
Drew
And by the way, I was going to say a 40-year-old woman pulls that off. Yeah.
19:15
Adam
Well, she got out of a long-term relationship.
19:17
Drew
Right.
19:18
Adam
She's not...
19:19
Guest
Mr. Wachel, she retires.
19:20
Drew
That's the way it works. She's out of a long marriage that went bad or something.
19:24
Caller
Does she also refer to you as a screw buddy?
19:27
Drew
Yeah.
19:27
Caller
Okay, just checking.
19:29
Drew
Communication. Robert mentioned that.
19:31
Caller
I wasn't familiar with the term. They're communicating. I'm going to add that to my arsenal. Screw buddy. Okay.
19:34
Drew
Friends with benefits.
19:36
Adam
All right. So what's the question, Mike?
19:38
Guest
Well, when she was in her early 20s, she was in a marriage that ended up being physically abusive.
19:46
Drew
Didn't we just say this? That we could predict that that was her history?
19:49
Adam
Yeah. All right.
19:50
Guest
Then she refused to get tied down for a long time.
19:54
Drew
Right.
19:54
Guest
About 10 years ago, she got married and ended up having a son from the marriage. Two years ago, her son, seven now. Two years ago, they got divorced. They went through nine months of counseling. He was not physically or mentally abusive. But I think, you know, it just...
20:12
Drew
You know, it's interesting. Was she to him?
20:15
Guest
Not that I know of.
20:17
Drew
Sometimes the abuser becomes the abusee or vice versa.
20:20
Guest
Yeah.
20:21
Adam
All right. But what's the question, Mike?

Well, we were talking the other night and she's used to sleeping in bed by herself. And I am too. But when I'm in bed with her, I sleep like a baby because I'm so comfortable and content because that's what I want.
20:37
Adam
Right.
20:38
Drew
Meaning he's had sex.
20:39
Guest
It's not that comfortable because she has more or less conditioned herself to being alone. Ten years ago, her mother, for some reason, like freaked out and disowned the whole family. I don't know if it was drugs or alcohol or anything like that. And I'm kind of afraid to open that can of worms with her. But I think all the bad things that have happened to her are making her scared of a relationship.
21:03
Drew
Yes, agreed.
21:04
Guest
And should, you know, I want to confront her with it, but I don't want to...
21:08
Adam
Why, why confront your screw buddy?
21:10
Drew
Yeah, you said she was a screw buddy.
21:11
Adam
You shouldn't even be talking to your screw buddy.
21:13
Drew
You mean, you mean you developed a feeling for her?
21:16
Guest
I have a ton of feelings for her.
21:17
Drew
Alright, so it's no longer a screw buddy thing. It's a relationship.
21:20
Caller
He sleeps like a baby with this girl.
21:21
Drew
It's a relationship that's developing with someone that's not open or available for a relationship, right?
21:26
Exactly.
21:27
Guest
I mean, in my heart, we have never said we are committed to each other, but I just act like we are committed to each other.
21:34
Drew
As usual with these friends with benefit relationships, somebody gets feelings. Somebody gets them and then you're sort of violating the basic boundaries that you guys set up, established for yourselves in this relationship to begin with.
21:45
Adam
Are you getting close to the kid?
21:49
Guest
A little bit, yeah. I mean, how the kid even looks like me, that's what's scary.
21:54
Adam
Well, it's just because he's missing teeth.
21:56
Guest
Oh, now.
21:59
Adam
Well, I'm just, I'm playing a hunch.
22:01
Guest
That's all. I live in a flat.
22:03
Adam
All right. He'll get his teeth in soon. Hey, Mike, my honest opinion is you got a handful here, and she's 40 and she may never be right. And I don't know if you want to stick with this and change her, because she's going to take some work and you're going to take some work.
22:21
Drew
That's right. And there's a reason you're going for somebody that's not available and that's going to need some working on. But women in their 40s, sometimes character logic problems get better in the fourth and fifth decades.
22:31
Adam
Well, they're just waiting to die. I don't care anymore.
22:33
Drew
Whatever the reason. And she has been someone who's gone to treatment before. She had nine months of treatment with her ex-husband.
22:38
Adam
All right.
22:38
Drew
Maybe she wanted to get some work done.
22:40
Adam
Mike, why don't you just give her the bum rush of love? Why don't you just tell her you have feelings for her and put your arms around her and see what she does?
22:49
Drew
My suspicion is, Mike, you need a little Alan on work. My suspicion is just the way you talk about your relationship and the kind of just the sense I get from you that if you had that support of a recovery program you might be able to deal with this more effectively or at least help her institute change.
23:05
Caller
I couldn't agree more with all that advice. To me it's a beautiful picture.
23:08
Drew
Just the screw buddy part.
23:09
Caller
The screw buddy, the falling asleep in her arms, feeling it, you know, cozy and content. Kid looks like you.
23:14
Guest
But as far as that like bum rushner with love kind of thing, she already knows that.
23:19
Drew
That turned her off too.
23:20
Adam
Oh yeah.
23:21
Guest
Well, yes. If I do it too much it'll push her away. But what is funny is last night, her and I are members of a club in this town. It's not a sex club or not, my guess is just a plain, you know, like bar club.
23:36
Adam
Right.
23:36
Guest
And she's like a social butterfly, talking to all her buddies and I'm going around talking to all my friends. And this girl wanted to bump a cigarette off me, so I gave her a cigarette. Well, next thing you know, we start talking. And then she, anyway, she saw me talking to this other girl.
23:53
Drew
And she freaked.
23:54
Guest
She, I mean, you talk about, I mean, not...
23:57
Drew
Wait, wait, wait. Was she drinking at the time?
24:00
Guest
Yes, I know she was drinking.
24:02
Drew
Mike, Mike, Mike, I just smell alcoholism here.
24:06
Adam
Handful.
24:07
Drew
Alcoholism, alcoholism.
24:09
Guest
No, she's not an alcoholic.
24:10
Drew
Oh, yeah. No, that's a correct one.
24:12
Adam
That's a correct one.
24:13
Guest
This is an alcoholic. It's your screw buddy that says you're not.
24:15
Guest
I am married now.
24:16
Guest
I drink alcohol.
24:17
Drew
You're recovering alcoholic.
24:19
Guest
I have recovered from four years ago.
24:20
Drew
That's good. You're recovering. And that also, I could bet 50% probability you had a parent who's an alcoholic, right? And so...
24:29
Guest
No, but neither one of my parents were alcoholics, but that is in the family history.
24:35
Drew
The point being that there's likely to be some issues that are pertinent to Al-Anon. You recovered from alcohol is great, but now you've got an Al-Anon recovery. You've got to put your mind to it, all right?
24:45
Adam
Mike, you tell her, honey, just listen to me. You tell her, look, you're 40. You've got a seven-year-old with no daddy, and you drive an 87 Voyager with Bondo all over the passenger side door. Where are you going? You're not doing any better than this. I'm 28, and I got potential. So that's it. Tell her to crap or get off the pot. I don't know why he's pushing so hard for this. This just sounds like a huge project. He should just rebuild the Hindenburg out of the toilet paper or something.
25:15
Drew
If we're in this one, it'll be another one. All right.
25:17
Caller
Good luck, Mike.
25:19
Adam
We'll take a little break. Robert Downey Jr. is here, also Anthony Kiedis, and we'll be back to give you all the particulars from the... Well, Drew, you want to just point at the paper?
25:30
Drew
Let's see you bring it on the way out. Remember, it's this. Yeah.
25:33
Adam
Well, what's this goddamn thing in front of your mouth?
25:37
Drew
If I so much as speak, when you're in the middle of a roll to an end, you flip out. I know, but I don't have anything. You couldn't tell when I was pending to a break. Couldn't you tell? I was going to tell a joke. Can't you spell a joke? Well, then don't point.
25:46
Adam
Then don't point.
25:47
Drew
www.silverliningsilverlake.com. It's the second annual Silver Lining Silver Lake Benefit for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic.
25:54
Adam
Thank you.
25:54
Caller
You guys need some counseling.
25:55
Drew
Yeah, just point that out. No kidding.
25:57
Adam
We'll be back.
25:59
Hello. This is your radio. Radio. Loveline will be right back. Hey, everybody.
26:04
Adam
This is Orion.
26:05
Caller
And this is Steven.
26:06
We're members of Third Eye Blind.
26:07
Caller
You're listening to Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew on Loveline.
26:11
Adam
Yes, you are. Third Eye Blind, just one of the bands you're going to see this weekend. That is Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic Benefit. And Robert Downey Jr and Anthony Kiedis are both here tonight.
26:26
Drew
Robert wanted to say something.
26:27
Adam
Yes.
26:27
Drew
But you were talking so much, you couldn't get a word in.
26:29
Adam
Well, Drew, hold on a second.
26:31
Drew
Oh, now I talk and now it's not good.
26:33
Adam
I'm plugging the thing.
26:35
Drew
All right, go.
26:35
Adam
I'm plugging the thing.
26:37
Drew
Go.
26:37
Adam
Well, I was going to commercial before and you're pointing at the thing frantically. Now I'm giving the website out and you've got to jump in. Which is it? What do you want me to do?
26:46
Drew
That's exactly what I want to ask you, is you told me to jump in, now I jumped in. Which is it?
26:50
Adam
You're such an idiot. I'm going to play you the tape of the show, you jackass. Please.
26:55
Please.
26:57
Adam
You can't get me through the thing. Go ahead. No, forget it. Robert, go ahead. We'll never give the website out. Go ahead.
27:03
Guest
I'm just observing this interaction with...
27:06
Caller
It's fascinating. 30 years from now, you guys are going to be gray and bearded. And you're going to be arguing back and forth.
27:14
Drew
Want to gamble on it?
27:15
Adam
Well, let me explain the problem.
27:17
Caller
Walkers and Canes, you guys are going to be hitting each other.
27:20
Adam
We usually don't have A-list type celebrities on the show. We got the kids from some WB show you never heard of that's already off the air by the time they get on the air and Drew could care less. And he leans back and looks at his pager the entire night. But tonight, he's up in his chair. He's excited. We have celebrities in here.
27:38
Drew
We had three nights of sleep. We didn't work late last night.
27:40
Adam
Yes. And so I can't get my cadence right because I'm used to him just not talking.
27:45
Drew
Okay.
27:45
Adam
He usually broods.
27:46
Drew
That's why I pointed that I usually don't talk and he got mad at that.
27:50
Guest
I think you complement each other.
27:52
Adam
Not verbally though.
27:53
Guest
Not in the last two minutes. Right.
27:54
Adam
Thank you.
27:55
All right.
27:56
Adam
Let's take some calls. Laura?
27:59
Hi.
27:59
Adam
You're 17. What's up?
28:01
Caller
Hey, I listen to the show every night. You guys kick ass.
28:04
Adam
Thanks.
28:04
Caller
Adam, funny as hell.
28:06
Adam
Great. Thanks.
28:07
Caller
And Anthony, I love you. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band. You rock my world. Thank you, Laura. All right. I have a question for Anthony and then I have a question for Adam.
28:17
Adam
All right.
28:18
Caller
All right. I want to know, how did the tube sock antics originate?
28:23
Caller
My version is different than Flea's version, but I can only give you my version. I was 17 years old. I had left my house. I was living with a roommate, a lady friend of his had a crush on me. I was previously engaged with my high school sweetheart. This girl kept sending me very sexually oriented cards and messages. Basically, she just wanted to get down. I wasn't having it because I was in love. My friend said, she's coming over. She's coming over to the apartment. She wants to see you. I ran into the bedroom and I got naked. I put a sock on my dick and came out to greet her, hoping that would scare her away forever. It just made her fall more deeply in love with me. And she continued to send messages and cards.
29:10
Drew
Is she Angel from Texas?
29:14
Caller
And then one day, when it came time to perform live on stage in concert with my brethren, it just seemed like the thing to do.
29:21
Drew
You were so accustomed to it by that point.
29:23
Caller
They say that when you get into show business, you reach back and pull out every little trick from your childhood and you end up turning it into some kind of schtick or... Can you attest to that?
29:35
Guest
I just like that you tell her how to do it. She goes, it's so sweet. I could have said, you know, anything.
29:40
Caller
It gets sexy.
29:42
Adam
That's quaint. When you're on stage jumping around, how do you keep the sock on? I mean, I know there's a certain amount of elastic holding it there, but is there any preventative stuff, some double-stick tape or something?
29:53
Caller
No, but if you think it's all in the balls.
29:55
Adam
Oh, yeah.
29:56
Caller
I mean, if you just put that over your dick, I mean, not everybody in town is going to keep that thing, but if you wrap it nicely around the whole scrotum, and then that's like in its entirety, the package is sufficient.
30:05
Drew
Adam tries to push his tube stock garter.
30:11
Caller
Is that an invention you made?
30:12
Drew
Yeah, it goes also for condoms.
30:14
Adam
Yeah, it's just a little alligator clip or roach clip and then a piece of elastic that goes around your back and clips to the other side and keeps it on. You could do it in a flesh color. No one would see it. True, this is not my invention. It's only for condoms. But I agree. Listen, I could stuff my balls into a trash can and hold it up. But the penis would not hold up one of those finger condoms.
30:39
Guest
Don't you have a question for Adam?
30:40
Adam
Oh yeah, Laura?
30:41
Caller
Yeah.
30:42
Adam
Go ahead.
30:42
Caller
Adam, could you please tell the story about the time that you got trapped in your friend's house while she was sunbathing naked?
30:48
Adam
No, no. We got big celebrities here.
30:51
Drew
Maybe tomorrow I'll remind him.
30:53
Caller
Anybody like to hear the story?
30:54
Guest
He'll tell it at the commercial.
30:55
Adam
Yeah, I'll tell him during the commercial.
30:57
Caller
How about the time that you stuffed your nuts into a trash can and held it up?
31:00
Drew
Yeah, I just told that one.
31:02
Adam
That was good. All right. Hey, Laura? Yeah. Thanks.
31:06
Caller
Bye, Laura.
31:07
Adam
I'll tell that story tomorrow. We'll talk to Debbie. It's 32. Debbie?
31:12
Hello.
31:12
Adam
What's up?
31:13
Oh, a lot.
31:15
Adam
You got a question?
31:16
Oh, I have a lot of questions.
31:18
Drew
No, just listen to that voice.
31:20
Caller
Is this the phone sex operator?
31:21
Drew
Yeah, but just think. Just what do you evoke in you?
31:24
Adam
You got a question for us tonight?
31:26
Yeah, I am a phone sex operator. I had a client that was calling me a lot. And I left my boyfriend like three weeks ago. And I am kind of in a financial bind. And he offered to have sex with me for $100. And I told him I would have to meet him. And I met him tonight and I told him that I would do a hand job for $50. And I did. And I have a really... I don't know, I am kind of feeling kind of sick to my stomach after doing it because I have never done anything like that before. I have a boyfriend who is in the military. Well, not really a boyfriend, I left him, but he is in Louisiana right now. And I am not really sure what is going to happen when he gets back the 22nd.
32:15
Drew
Well, you left him, so why would anything come back?
32:18
I am in love with him, I mean, I...
32:20
Drew
Why did you leave him then?
32:22
He beat me up like three weeks ago.
32:24
Drew
What is not to love about that?
32:26
I don't know. I am used to it though, I have never been with a guy that hasn't laid his hands on me, so I guess...
32:31
Drew
Okay, just for reference, future reference, there are guys out there that won't.
32:36
Well, I know that, but I haven't found him.
32:39
Caller
Certain people get addicted to the kind of rush of their boyfriends beating them up.
32:43
Drew
Yeah, you can conceptualize addiction, it really is a sort of a compulsion. That's what they're attracted to and that's who they are as a person that's attracted to that kind of person and that's just what love is to them.
32:55
Like the bad boy type attraction, I think.
32:57
Drew
And it really ultimately is trying to resolve the problems of having been abused by dad when he was growing up.
33:03
My dad never really hit me, but he was verbally abusive. I was always really, you know, the kind of child that whose father would holler and I'd be like in the corner, you know, covering my head. I mean, he would never physically lay his hands on me, but...
33:16
Drew
Ever?
33:17
No.
33:18
Adam
Did he kick you?
33:19
No.
33:20
Adam
I was just playing a hunch. Did the guy tip you? Who you gave the hand job to?
33:25
What do you mean, tip me? He gave me $50 for a hand job.
33:28
Adam
No, no tip.
33:29
Guest
That means no.
33:30
Drew
Do you tip prostitutes?
33:32
Adam
I would say at least 15% on a hand job.
33:34
Drew
Okay.
33:35
Guest
And you know, there's some guy on like a military base in Gary, Indiana somewhere now saying that his girl who's a phone sex operator was until they broke up, just juggled some guy's dice for $50.
33:48
Adam
Right.
33:49
Actually, I'm in Washington State, so.
33:51
Adam
Oh, okay.
33:52
Caller
I think he's in Louisiana or something.
33:54
Guest
Oh, he's based in Louisiana.
33:55
Adam
Hey, Debbie, I got a whole bunch of... first off, man, what's going wrong here, baby? I mean, what's up?
34:02
I don't know. I've been getting... since I've been doing the phone sex, I've been doing it for nine months, and it seems like I've been getting more freakier in bed as...
34:10
Adam
But you're 32 years old. You haven't worked past some of this stuff yet?
34:15
Caller
Well, I went through a really bad divorce. I was married for eight years, and I went through a bad divorce. It was a two-and-a-half-year divorce, and I married money. I wasn't really in love with them, and...
34:25
Adam
You married money, what? You just did a handy for $50. What kind of divorce? What kind of alimony are you getting? Nothing.
34:32
Caller
I lost everything, to be honest with you.
34:36
Adam
Well, if you're going to marry a guy for money, at least bilk him.
34:40
Guest
No tip in the settlement?
34:42
Adam
I mean, didn't he have to leave you the house, or the ranchero, or whatever he was driving?
34:47
Caller
No, I left with the clothes on my back, pretty much.
34:50
Drew
But this attraction to abusive men, okay?
34:54
Caller
I know it's bad, and then I have a BDU fetish on top of everything else, so I am attracted to the military.
35:00
Drew
BDU, bondage, domination.
35:02
Adam
BDU or BDU?
35:02
Caller
BDU, battle-dressed uniform fetish.
35:05
Adam
Oh, they got one of those.
35:06
Caller
Battle-dress?
35:07
Caller
It's like camouflage uniform, it kind of turns me on.
35:11
Caller
So you like getting decked out in desert storm gear?
35:14
Caller
No, I like guys who wear desert storm gear.
35:18
Caller
I was picturing you in the gear, but...
35:20
Caller
Oh, okay. I'd look good in it though.
35:23
Adam
Was your dad in the military?
35:24
Caller
Um, my dad, I've never met my dad.
35:27
Drew
Didn't you say your dad was verbally abusive to you?
35:28
Adam
Oh, that's my adopted father.
35:31
Drew
What's that?
35:32
Caller
My adopted father.
35:33
Drew
Well, what happened to your biological father?
35:35
Caller
Um, actually my mother slept with my aunt's boyfriend and got pregnant with me.
35:40
Drew
Did you ever meet this guy?
35:41
Caller
I've never met my father. Never? Never.
35:44
Adam
Okay, so when did you run into a corporal punishment along the way? I mean, who was the guy in the uniform that got you going with this?
35:53
Caller
I don't know.
35:54
Drew
Was your mom abusive too?
35:56
Caller
Um, no, actually my mom, my dad was an alcoholic and so my mom was kind of like the person that would go around, you know, trying to make everything fine at home and keep peace in the family and...
36:08
Drew
Okay.
36:09
Adam
Hey Debbie, how poor can you be that you don't have money? I mean, you got to charge 50 for a hand job.
36:15
Caller
I'm very poor right now.
36:17
Adam
Do you have any kids?
36:18
Caller
Um, they're with my ex.
36:20
Adam
Oh, yeah.
36:21
Caller
And I'm paying him child support and the whole nine years.
36:25
Adam
Here, this 20 is going to be a little sticky, but don't spend them on food. Jesus Christ, this is a disaster. Do you ever just stand back and take a look?
36:34
Caller
Oh, actually, I think about, you know, killing myself all the time.
36:37
Adam
Well, no, I don't mean to stand back and kill yourself.
36:39
I mean, no, I'm serious.
36:40
Caller
My life is totally messed up right now.
36:43
Adam
Well, just stop it. You're 32. You have your health. You sound intelligent.
36:48
Caller
I'm not stupid. I know that.
36:49
Drew
No, this is not about being smart or not smart, but you do need to... Let's just focus on one thing. How about learning to read your attractions and to realize that the things that you call attraction is sort of unfinished sickness from your past, and then maybe things that are super attractive to you should be avoided. Just the way like a sex addict would avoid the web as an arousal mechanism that they sort of get going with, and it really sent them down a bad path. This is a bad thing for you when you get involved in this kind of attraction. How about going around with guys that are not quite so attractive to you, and if it's boring and if it feels uncomfortable, kind of stay in with it and see where you can go, see what kind of feelings come up, and see if you can tolerate a real relationship.
37:28
Adam
What kind of a real nerdy guy and civvies?
37:31
Guest
Where you're bored is probably where the change can happen. It just seems like rather than hold on to it, you're calling in and feeling guilty about what just happened with this guy and the 50 bucks. I mean, that lasts 45 seconds. If you're still feeling bad, it's probably old stuff, honey.
37:47
Adam
Right.
37:47
Guest
All right.
37:47
Adam
Hey, Debbie, I rarely say this, but can you find Jesus Christ? I think he's in prison because that's where he seems to be found the most. Did you see Jesus when you were behind bars?
37:59
Caller
Actually, I'm not. I don't think he was in a bar.
38:01
Drew
Well, he was never in a solitary. I'd be in solitary.
38:03
Adam
Find like Buddha or Allah or who the Jews got going, Moses, somebody. Just find something, find some spirituality and just knock it off and get in some therapy and just pull yourself up and every other cliché I can throw at you. You're not stupid. You're young. Just go ahead and start having a good life.
38:23
Drew
But here's the thing. Here's the thing. You got to get it. Whatever that it is, that desire, that willingness to make change, go ahead and get it.
38:31
Adam
Right.
38:31
Drew
And if you don't do it, this pattern, this slope you're on ain't going to change. So it's up to you.
38:37
Adam
I don't know if I would even call this a slope. I think this is just a sheer freefall. This is a cliff she is sliding down. All right. Robert Downey Jr. is here. Also Anthony Kiedis. They are here to benefit the what, Drew?
38:52
Caller
That's Robert and I clapping by the wink.
38:54
Drew
The Silver Lake benefit for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. Its information is at www.silverliningsilverlake.com. Tons of amazing performers in three nights this week. Elton John, Sting, Pepper's, Aguarius, Amy Mann, and we'll be there. Third Eye Blind.
39:12
Adam
That's right. So we'll take a little break and we'll be back. Right after this.
39:17
Caller
Hello. This is your radio. Loveline will be right back.
39:23
Adam
Hey everybody, Loveline. I'm Adam. That's Dr. Drew over there. Phone number 1-800-LOVE-191. Robert Downey Jr. is our guest tonight. As well as Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony will be in here momentarily. We're here to talk about a benefit. It's going to take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This weekend, for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. All the information you're going to need is at www.silverliningsilverlake.com. Robert, had some stuff you want to mention as far as other people that were going to be there.
40:02
Guest
Yeah, well, first night we got Elton John and Sting. Night 2 is the Chili Peppers. Also, Amy Mann, Debra Falconer, Third Night, Third Eye Blind, Hugo Juarez, Daniel Lenoir, Christina Ricci is going to be hosting with me the first night. Benicio del Toro will be there on night 3. Johnny Knoxville, Night 2, Rosalyn Sanchez, Phantom Planet, Jay Hernandez, Lucy Liu, and of course, Dr. Drew and Adam Corolla as well. That will be night 2. And also, the tickets are also available through Ticketmaster. Thank you.
40:36
Adam
And, Drew, have you been up to this big beautiful estate that this is going to be held at the first two nights?
40:42
Drew
No, I have no idea.
40:43
Adam
Just an amazing mansion up on the hill. I think it used to be some kind of nunnery or something up there. Yeah.
40:50
Guest
And before that, it was, I think, some silent stars home. It's funny how they always have to kind of, you know, they kind of have to clear the air and get a bunch of nuns in there for a bunch of years.
41:02
Adam
Right. That's right.
41:05
Caller
Am I, is this thing working?
41:06
Caller
Hey, is this thing on?
41:08
Caller
I just came in with the Flash News Bulletin.
41:10
Adam
Yes.
41:10
Caller
Ticketmaster. They're selling tickets for this very concert.
41:14
Guest
That bore repeating, Ticketmaster.
41:16
Adam
And all the money is going to a very, very worthy cause.
41:21
Drew
So are these deductible tickets? I mean, people buy it.
41:24
Caller
Tax deductible? Yeah. Oh, hell yeah.
41:26
Adam
Yeah.
41:26
Caller
Oh, yeah.
41:27
Adam
Because it's a benefit. All right. Let's, let's talk to Jenna, who's 25. Jenna?
41:33
Hi.
41:33
Adam
Hey. Hi.
41:35
It is a pleasure talking to you tonight. Nice to talk to all four of you. Great guys. I just wanted to say, my husband loves Loveline. I never heard of it before college, before him. And I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. And I think very highly of Adam and Dr. Drew.
41:55
Drew
Now, with that said, How about Anthony?
41:58
Adam
Yeah, he's not chop-liver.
41:59
I'll start with Robert Downey. Robert, are you ever, ever, ever going back to Ally McBeal?
42:07
Guest
I'm not certain.
42:07
Can you devote that?
42:08
Guest
Will you buy some tickets?
42:11
I'll buy tickets to anything.
42:12
Guest
Okay.
42:13
Caller
You'll go back?
42:15
Oh, God. That's so nice of you.
42:18
Guest
I'm going to, I'm going to say yes. And I'm, and I'm going to say, Ticketmaster Silver Lining, silverliningsilverline.com www.
42:25
Adam
Hey, Jenna, you buy one general mission ticket and Robert will go tonight after Loveline and shoot four or five new episodes. All right.
42:33
You've got a deal.
42:35
Adam
All right.
42:35
That was too easy.
42:36
Adam
Yeah.
42:37
I don't know.
42:37
Drew
Is that it, Jenna?
42:39
No, I wanted to ask Dr. Drew, I mean, just for fun since I got through, I would never think to call in. I love Robert Downey Jr. He's one of my favorite, favorite.
42:49
Caller
Robert is hot.
42:51
Guest
I needed that after that last call where my name wasn't mentioned when they're talking to Anthony.
42:55
My husband is the greatest in the world, but Robert Downey Jr. on the list. Dr. Drew, I'm 25 and I am a fitness professional, and my husband is 27 and he is a tennis professional.
43:11
Drew
Tennis.
43:11
Caller
He's a pro.
43:12
Drew
Tennis.
43:13
Caller
Huh?
43:13
Drew
Tennis.
43:14
Caller
Tennis, yes. Racket.
43:16
Tennis racket.
43:18
Caller
And we are, we have, I'm just blown away by our peers, some of the people that we know that are having babies.
43:28
Drew
Yeah.
43:28
Caller
And they're, we just, we just can't imagine, I mean we are, we even just bought our first house together.
43:37
Drew
So you're not ready to have kids yet?
43:39
Caller
No.
43:39
Adam
We're not blown away, we're just like, Jesus Christ, these fitness people are always such a pain in the ass. They should do it.
43:46
Caller
You guys just hang up on her?
43:47
Adam
Yeah, I like how I put her on hold. They should do some push-ups with their brain every once in a while.
43:52
Drew
It's always a disaster. I think there ought to be a law that ought to release people to have children after the age of about 30. So you're fine.
43:58
Guest
Just take it to her. So the gal you just had to put on hold is the one that really has high regard for me.
44:03
Drew
Yeah. She didn't mention anything.
44:04
Adam
She didn't blame that on you though. She'll blame me on that.
44:07
Guest
She sounds sweet.
44:08
Adam
Now, but you know these workout people, they got too much energy. Way too much. Mike? Mike, you're 24.
44:18
Guest
Yeah.
44:19
Drew
Oh, it sounds like he hung up.
44:21
Caller
Hello?
44:21
Drew
Oh, there he is.
44:22
Adam
Go ahead, Mike.
44:23
Caller
Oh, hi. I'm sorry. Yeah, I have like-
44:27
Drew
It's always a nice comment about the show, isn't it?
44:29
Adam
Yeah. Hey, Mike?
44:30
Drew
Oh, no. Robert wanted to know the answer to this question.
44:32
Adam
Okay, go ahead. Hurry up and ask that question, please.
44:34
Caller
I have like little purple, I'll explain, like dark purple tips like on my penis.
44:40
Drew
Dark purple tips?
44:42
Caller
They're like, they look purple, but they're like dark, like dark-
44:44
Guest
Like a little asparagus.
44:47
Caller
There you go. And-
44:48
Drew
I'm trying to picture it, Mike.
44:49
Caller
Okay, and they itch really bad, and I'm trying to figure out what-
44:52
Drew
They itch badly. They're on the shaft of the penis?
44:54
Caller
No, it's all, it's like from, like the middle up, and I'm on the computer and I have not seen anything that looks like what I, like what's happening.
45:01
Drew
The middle of the shaft-
45:03
Guest
What sites are you hitting?
45:04
What's that?
45:05
Drew
Middle of the shaft to the tip?
45:06
Caller
Yes.
45:07
Drew
Middle of the shaft to the tip, is it circumferential? It's all the way around?
45:11
Caller
Not towards the bottom where the- I'll explain it.
45:14
Drew
You know what, as always, if you want to send a digital picture, what Loveline address can we use so I can look at a picture of this?
45:21
Caller
What?
45:22
Adam
No, listen, this guy barely has a phone. He doesn't think he's got a scanner. All right.
45:27
Drew
Well, there's just a digital camera, I'll just stick it in.
45:28
Adam
You think he's got a digital camera? I bet he doesn't have an Etch-a-Sketch.
45:32
Drew
Mike?
45:32
Guest
If you send a picture, I'll go back on Ally McBeal.
45:35
Caller
Would you really?
45:36
Guest
Not really.
45:37
Drew
All right, Mike.
45:37
Caller
I can tell you where a free clinic is in Silverlake.
45:39
Guest
That's right.
45:40
Drew
Yeah, Planned Parenthood San Diego is a wonderful, a huge-
45:44
Caller
I hear they specialize in purple bumps.
45:45
Drew
Well, here's the deal. As always, when it comes to skin lesions, people cannot describe it in a way that makes sense to me or give me any idea what's going on here. Anything itchy on the penis goes from anything from psoriasis to allergy to herpes, you know, to lichen planus. I mean, there's a lot of different things that can do that. I would need, you need to have someone look at it.
46:05
Adam
Go to Planned Parenthood over there. They have a new thing where you can drop your penis off at overnight deposit, just a slot right in the door and then leave it with a self-addressed stamp envelope and we should get it back in three working days.
46:18
Caller
Describing the bumps, did you ever see that commercial where the lady's trying to describe the sound her car's making because it's not working right?
46:24
Adam
Right.
46:24
Caller
That's what it's like trying to describe the bumps.
46:26
Adam
Virtually impossible and then you sprinkle a little weed and some booze and 70 minutes on hold and a double-digit IQ and now you got real difficulty painting a picture. All right, so Mike go down to Planned Parenthood, take care of that penis. We got to take ourselves a break. Anthony Kiedis, Robert Downey Jr. here tonight and we'll be back, give you all the particulars after this.
46:49
Guest
All right guys, here's the deal.
46:50
Caller
You're looking to hook up, sick of wasting time with the wrong person?
46:54
Caller
One call is all you need to make.
46:55
Caller
Call the Dateline.
46:56
Caller
877-889-DATE.
46:59
Caller
Call the Dateline.
47:04
Adam
Where is it caused that Drew and myself are going to be a part of? This weekend, actually technically starting on Thursday, it's for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. There's just tons of big names involved with this. The money all goes to the free clinic to give help to people who really, really need it. And Drew, I'm going to read this. www.silverliningsilverlake.com is what you'd log on to to get all the information you need.
47:33
Drew
Or Ticketmaster?
47:35
Adam
No, or Ticketmaster.
47:36
Caller
Or Ticketmaster.
47:37
Adam
That's right.
47:38
Drew
So the 13th will be out in John and Sting, the 14th Chili Peppers, the 15th, Higuariz, Amy Mann, the 15th, Higuariz again, Third Eye Blind, and more.
47:49
Caller
And Becky, which is Beck actually in drag for that particular... Now I'm kidding, but Amy Mann, who's playing on Friday, December 14th with us, us being right out Chili Peppers, I'm a huge fan.
48:02
Adam
She's great.
48:02
Caller
I just have to throw that out there. Listen to that girl's records and I get blown away.
48:07
Adam
She is an absolute bonafide talent. And who's her man? Michael Penn? The man is Michael Penn. He's not bad either. Those two should have some like talented kids.
48:20
Caller
They might have tennis instructors for kids.
48:23
Adam
Let's hope not.
48:25
Guest
And on the 13th playing with Elton John and Sting, Daniel L'Ennoy, who's just so amazing, has done all this soundtrack for Sling Blade. I mean, he's an immensely respected guy. And Deborah Falconer is also something else. She's actually my ex-wife as well.
48:40
Adam
And oh, really?
48:42
Guest
Yeah.
48:42
Adam
Is that going to be all right for you?
48:43
Guest
It's going to be so good.
48:45
Drew
I just got a note up here on the computer. It says the website's going nuts right now and that they should start using Ticketmaster.
48:51
Adam
All right. Well, do whatever you want.
48:52
Caller
Ticketmaster probably has bigger, better computers for taking.
48:57
Adam
And this is a night to not only see a bunch of great acts up close, but rub elbows and do a little hobnobbing with the big celebrities.
49:05
Guest
Everyone and their mom is going to be there. Sam Slavik, who helped me, who basically organized the event with the people at Silver Lining, Silver Lake, was saying just it's nuts.
49:17
Adam
Yeah, in a beautiful environment. I was there last year and it's absolutely amazing.
49:22
Drew
Let me just ask, if you go to Ticketmaster, do you look under Silver Lining, Silver Lake? What's the sort of keywords?
49:28
Adam
Keywords?
49:29
Drew
Hollywood Free Clinic?
49:29
Caller
We tried them all.
49:30
Drew
Okay. Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic.
49:32
Adam
Yeah. Well, they'll find it once they get there.
49:34
Drew
Silver Lining. I bet you Silver Lining will be there.
49:35
Adam
Josh?
49:36
Yeah.
49:37
Adam
Well, just dates in LA probably narrow it down. Josh, you're 16?
49:42
Caller
Yeah.
49:42
Adam
What's up?
49:44
Caller
Yeah, I'm aware that when a girl loses her virginity, like she experiences apparently overwhelming pain.
49:53
Drew
Not necessarily.
49:54
Adam
No.
49:55
Caller
No.
49:55
Drew
Adam, she didn't even know anything had happened.
49:57
Adam
Now, thanks to the little miracle known as Rufies and Mickey's Big Mouth, she didn't wake up for days. Now, she said, are you in?
50:07
Drew
Or was it, are you done?
50:08
Adam
Are you done? Are you done? May have been it.
50:11
Caller
Why are you worried about the overwhelming pain?
50:14
Caller
Because, well, I was just wondering because I've heard that a lot and I've heard average size for a penis is six inches. Yeah. A little above that. And I was wondering what the correlation was.
50:28
I'm a big boy.
50:30
Drew
How little above are we talking here?
50:32
Caller
Like about eight inches.
50:33
Drew
Yeah, that could do a little harm. But again, it's not going to be significantly more painful than someone who's not a virgin. It could be uncomfortable for anyone. And in fact, we have many more calls here about it.
50:47
Caller
Very uncomfortable to me personally.
50:49
Drew
Just thinking about it.
50:50
Adam
Yeah, but I'll tell you who's going to be uncomfortable with the next guy she gets with who's five inches.
50:55
Guest
And it's like a baby's arm in a warm room.
50:57
Adam
Who's got to have that, yeah. That's the guy who's going to be in pain. Josh, you just take it slow.
51:02
Caller
Exactly.
51:03
Adam
You're in love and you don't do anything that is uncomfortable for anyone and it'll all work out.
51:09
Caller
My understanding of the female vagina is that it-
51:12
Drew
As opposed to the male vagina?
51:13
Caller
As opposed to the hermaphrodite vagina.
51:15
Drew
I see.
51:15
Caller
Is that it expands and contracts with unbelievable elasticity.
51:20
Drew
That's correct. And it springs right back.
51:22
Caller
And if you just take it slow and go gentle and move your thing real mellow and with love.
51:29
Adam
Right.
51:30
Caller
And make sure she comes. I'm kidding.
51:33
Caller
Definitely.
51:34
Adam
How old is she? What is she, 11?
51:37
Caller
How old is she? 16.
51:39
Drew
16. And if she's ready for this too, make sure. If she's nervous and ambivalent about- not clear that she should be engaging in this kind of activity, it can hurt no matter what. Whether you're 3 inches or 9 inches, it can be a very unpleasant and painful experience.
51:52
Caller
Is she into it?
51:54
Caller
Huh?
51:54
Caller
Is she into it?
51:55
Caller
Into what?
51:56
Caller
Losing her virginity to you.
51:57
Caller
Oh, yeah. Well, I guess so. I mean, I was just asking in case.
52:03
Adam
Are you a virgin?
52:05
Caller
No.
52:06
Adam
Did you sleep with someone else who was a virgin at some point? Have you hurt before?
52:10
Drew
Did you hurt the non-virgin?
52:12
Guest
The thresher, yeah.
52:13
Drew
No.
52:13
Adam
Okay.
52:14
Caller
All right.
52:15
Caller
You're going to be all right. Have fun.
52:16
Caller
Good times. Did you put me on hold so I can listen to the rest of the show?
52:20
Adam
Okay. Now. Why, you're calling from Colorado?
52:24
Drew
You should be hearing it.
52:24
Caller
Yeah, it's on tomorrow.
52:27
Adam
Oh, okay.
52:28
Caller
All right.
52:29
Adam
All right.
52:29
Guest
Don't be nervous.
52:30
Caller
You can do that for me.
52:30
Drew
I'll tie up a phone line for you. No problem.
52:32
Adam
All right. Let's talk to...
52:33
Drew
Oh, you hung up. And you hung up on that one, too.
52:35
Adam
I didn't hang up on him. I just hit five.
52:38
Drew
Oh, man.
52:39
Adam
I didn't hang up on anyone.
52:40
Drew
You went directly to five without putting him on hold. All right.
52:43
Guest
I was looking at his hand when you were on the screen. I'm like, I don't know.
52:46
Caller
That eight-inch was the easiest problem to solve all night.
52:49
Drew
See? We're going to get some...
52:50
Adam
Yeah, we're going to load some down.
52:51
Caller
Those other problems were difficult.
52:53
Adam
Charlie?
52:54
Yeah.
52:55
Adam
You're 31.
52:57
Caller
What's up, Adam? I just want to say you're the man.
52:59
Adam
Hey, good times, buddy.
53:01
Caller
Robert Downey Jr. My favorite movie you were in was Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield.
53:08
Guest
Thanks, bro.
53:08
Adam
Oh, come on. How about Weird Science if you're going back that far? I love that movie.
53:14
Caller
I loved it when he would jump on the floor and start yelling, do me. Anyway, your recipe there for premature ejaculation was to squeeze one off 20 minutes beforehand.
53:29
Adam
Yeah.
53:29
Caller
Me and my wife tried that a couple of times, both different ways, and I still got that problem. I don't know what to do. I heard I would try a different thing, and we don't know where to go from here.
53:41
Drew
This is John Candy from the Grave, isn't it?
53:43
Adam
Yeah. What's up there? You smoke a lot of weed, Charlie?
53:47
Caller
No.
53:48
Adam
No, please. Please.
53:49
Caller
I have a technique for him.
53:50
Guest
Go ahead, Hanley.
53:53
Caller
So you've just been ejaculating prematurely, is that right?
53:56
Caller
Right.
53:57
Drew
How quick? Just for the record.
53:59
Caller
How quick? Like the dice man used to say, one stroke done.
54:04
Caller
Okay.
54:04
Drew
That's too quick.
54:05
Caller
But breathing, it's all about breath. If you focus on your breath rather than how good it's feeling down there, just breathe in and out like very intentional breathing like Don't focus on your penis. Focus on the breath.
54:23
Drew
Hold on.
54:23
Adam
I came when he did that. What's that mean?
54:26
Guest
I have a, there's another thing and this is really been having a profound effect on my staying power. Yoga brother.
54:35
Adam
Really?
54:36
Guest
Yes. Get your Kundalini on.
54:38
Adam
I can't picture Charlie in a lotus position. Hey, Charlie.
54:43
Guest
Charlie, go ashtanga.
54:44
Adam
Let me see if I can dangle a carrot in front of you. You get really good at that yoga. You can blow yourself.
54:51
Caller
Right. I used to be able to do that but I packed on a few pounds now.
54:54
Adam
Oh yeah. Now your guts in the way.
54:56
Drew
That's Ron Jeremy.
54:57
Adam
That's bad when your guts in the way.
55:00
Guest
Do the yoga with the boiler. Don't even worry about it.
55:03
Caller
Me and my brothers want to know, because we really like blood, sugar, sex, water. And me and my brothers want to know, does Anthony take it on the other side now or what?
55:13
Caller
That depends on your definition of the other side. It sounds like you've gone to a completely different place than I ever intended. But that's okay because lyrics were meant to be interpreted as seen fit. I mean, are you talking about some sort of a bisexual or gay reference there?
55:29
Caller
Yeah.
55:29
Caller
No, that's not what I was thinking when I wrote the song. You can interpret it if like that if you want to.
55:34
Caller
No, no, I'm a big fan of your lyrics. It just seemed like it's kind of been going downhill lately.
55:40
Guest
You are an asshole.
55:41
Caller
Alright.
55:42
Adam
Hey, Charlie. And by the way, Anthony's been critiqued by a guy who stopped blowing himself because his guts in the way.
55:48
Guest
Steady chuckles.
55:49
Caller
No, that's all right. Hey, you know, I'm not against having a little sensitive criticism from Charlie. The other side is about something much deeper than, you know, experimenting with male on male sex. Not what I'm into. But if you want to visualize that while you listen to the song, you go ahead.
56:07
Adam
Caroline. Caroline. Yes. You're 17. What's up?
56:10
Caller
Yeah. I just have a question for Anthony.
56:12
Adam
Here he is.
56:13
Caller
Okay. Hi, Anthony.
56:15
Caller
Am I going downhill in your eyes too?
56:16
Drew
Because he's about to kill himself. That's true.
56:20
Caller
I was just wondering if the new album that you're making, are you going to go for a new sound? Are you going to use that type of music that you use in California-cation? Do you know what I'm saying?
56:32
Caller
Yeah. We don't sit down and have a group discussion on which direction we're going in, or what kind of sound we want to come up with. It just happens. To us, it always seems like a natural progression from whatever we did before that. The more time we spend together, the more time our chemistry gets bubbling in the lab, it just comes out. I don't even know what to call it. It sounds to me like the next phase from Californication. It doesn't sound like Californication, but it sounds like a continuation thereof. We're pretty happy with it. It sounds good to us.
57:02
Adam
When's it coming out? Do you know?
57:05
Caller
We're still recording it. It comes out in the springtime of 2002.
57:10
Adam
Thanks, Carolyn.
57:10
Caller
Another question is, another thing I wanted to tell Anthony, I met you like, I'd say on Wednesday, August 16th, 2000.
57:22
Drew
Give or take?
57:23
Caller
Yeah. No, that's an exact date. It was in Toronto. You were staying in the Four Seasons Hotel in Silver Eye.
57:31
Caller
What town?
57:32
Drew
Toronto.
57:32
Caller
Toronto.
57:33
Caller
In New Yorkville, Toronto, yeah. And you guys did a show, whatever. And one of your friends hooked me up or something with the guest list. And I like followed you into the elevator at like 2 a.m. after your show.
57:44
Caller
Yep.
57:45
Caller
And I mean I really think I like scared you.
57:47
Caller
You followed me all the way to my door.
57:50
Caller
Oh, I did not.
57:51
Caller
Yeah, you did.
57:52
Caller
I was like, I'm not done talking to you or whatever, but I didn't find you out of your elevator.
57:57
Guest
I'm not done talking to you at 2 in the morning.
58:00
Drew
That's a scary thing to tell someone, Carolyn.
58:01
Caller
See, right now my girlfriend is listening. I hope my girlfriend is listening because now she sees exactly how I behave.
58:07
Guest
I would have gotten nervous and then felt immense relief at this story.
58:10
Adam
Just a $50 handy.
58:13
Guest
You can't buy those.
58:14
Adam
Hey, Carolyn.
58:14
Caller
It's money in the bank.
58:16
Adam
What do you got, a post-nasal drip going?
58:18
Caller
Oh, I'm so sick right now.
58:19
Adam
All right. Well, take care of yourself.
58:20
Drew
I'll be by for a vapor rub later. This is something we're trained to do is to point out to people when they're actually engaged in stalking behaviors. It helps them break through the denial about what they're doing. That's stalking. That is.
58:33
Caller
I have to close my door on it.
58:35
Drew
Yeah, it's a poor perception of boundaries. And they're always startled that you would perceive it that way. She can't imagine that. Look, it's two in the morning. You're following you to your room. It's maybe a 17-year-old, but you don't know.
58:46
Caller
I'm not done talking to you.
58:48
Caller
Thanks, Louis, for hooking her up, by the way.
58:49
Adam
But just, was she hot or? Yeah.
58:52
Caller
She wasn't.
58:54
Adam
Cindy?
58:55
Yeah.
58:55
Adam
You're 20? What's up?
58:58
Caller
Well, I'm kind of confused because, like, I'm getting my life together. I had a couple of years where I was doing stuff that I wasn't very proud of and all that sort of thing, but I'm trying to do better now. And so I went to my doctor and I got HIV test and chlamydia and gonorrhea and a bunch of other stuff. And I know that I had chlamydia and I took the penicillin. I think the pills.
59:26
Drew
The Zithromax.
59:27
Yeah.
59:29
Caller
And I did that. And so, and then I also, my doctor found that I had genital warts too.
59:39
Drew
Which would be completely, if you were sexually active, it would be bizarre if you didn't have that.
59:43
Adam
I have warts. Thank you.
59:47
Caller
The PVH.
59:48
Drew
HPV.
59:48
Caller
HPV, HPV, yeah.
59:50
Adam
She's also dyslexic. But go ahead. So you got everything.
59:54
Drew
So the question is?
59:55
Caller
The question is, is I don't, I just actually, like a couple, I just broke off a relationship, but I'm going to have to say something. I just feel it's so stupid because I'm, I'm the girl that you would like least suspect that.
1:00:09
Drew
Alright, here's the deal. First of all, the reality is that 50% of sexually active adults in your age group have HPV.
1:00:17
Adam
No, they don't.
1:00:18
Drew
They do.
1:00:20
Caller
And I heard like one out of four have chlamydia now in my group.
1:00:24
Drew
Well, that may be a little bit more of a statement, but the fact is, this is an ex- let's just state that it's exceedingly common. So it's not as though that you are sort of-
1:00:33
Caller
The warts? Is that what we're talking about?
1:00:34
Adam
Yes.
1:00:35
Drew
Especially in chlamydia, also common.
1:00:37
Adam
But chlamydia, she can knock down, right?
1:00:38
Drew
Completely curable.
1:00:39
Caller
Yeah, that's just like one pill that I-
1:00:40
Adam
Alright, so why even factor in that in?
1:00:42
Drew
Well, she had, she, and this is the other thing I want-
1:00:44
Caller
Because I could have exposed them to it.
1:00:47
Drew
But Cindy, somebody exposed you to it, too, after all. Be fair. And this is what I want to get into, is that you have such intense shame about your behavior into relation to whatever it was you were going through at that time in your life. You were where you were, you've gotten through that, you're understanding it, you're sort of containing your behavior as you're finding sort of more meaning from other kinds of relationships. Why beat the crap out of yourself? You have something that most people your age have, all people that are very sexually active have, and people need to wear condoms if they're going to be with you, if they're going to prevent infection, and indeed if you're going to be sexually active with someone, they should be wearing a condom. That's basically what this boils down to.
1:01:22
Adam
You probably find a guy who's got warts too.
1:01:25
Drew
I think that the fact that you are sort of coming more to terms with who you are and who you want to be, part of that is living with integrity, and I think it's, I commend you for wanting to be honest, because I think you'll feel a lot better about yourself, and you'll be part of this whole process you're going through, is being fastidiously honest. You need to be honest. So you need to tell people you've been exposed to it, work with them.
1:01:45
Adam
Well, only people you're going to screw. I mean, don't get a bullhorn and go to a mall.
1:01:49
Drew
Now look, go around the room here. If you're going to be with someone you're really into, and she mentions this, is it going to be a deal breaker?
1:01:55
Caller
I think it's very cool that she took the responsibility to find out, and that she's at least addressing the issue of how to deal with this.
1:02:01
Drew
She is getting herself together, quite literally.
1:02:03
Caller
That's a cool thing.
1:02:04
Caller
I was, I did, oh, because...
1:02:07
Adam
Yeah, but listen, Cindy, you know what you're doing? You see, you're taking all this guilt, and you're putting it on to your wards. I mean, what I'm saying is, is you, we don't, this guy doesn't have to know you got the wards from the 150th guy you're with. You could have just as easily got it from the first guy, and you think that because you have this, he's going to know about your past, but it's not true.
1:02:28
Guest
It also took someone who passed this on to you who didn't tell you before, so it's kind of like, you know, opportunity to stop that legacy there.
1:02:37
Caller
Yeah, and yeah, I totally understand.
1:02:40
Drew
But listen, but reassure her. Let's say you're into this girl, you dated her five times, now it's getting close, you're going to get physical, and she goes, I got to be honest about something.
1:02:48
Caller
How would you, as guys, how would you like a girl to...
1:02:51
Caller
That's right, if the girl I'm dating now had told me five times into the date that she had some sort of...
1:02:56
Drew
Yeah, no, no, not that you've been having sex five times, you're like getting to know her. Slowly building your...
1:03:01
Caller
There's no way that would have stopped me.
1:03:03
Caller
Yeah, but what would you, how would you have her say, would you rather just her be like, you need to go get teched or...
1:03:09
Drew
No, it's blurted out.
1:03:10
Adam
Yeah, just blurt it out over dinner. Besides, I mean, I'm all about BJs and anal anyway, so I don't even go there. I don't even know what that part is. What part do you get the words in?
1:03:19
Drew
The female vagina.
1:03:20
Adam
Is that the front part?
1:03:22
Caller
Um, actually, no, it's, um, you can have it, you can basically get it anywhere but...
1:03:26
Drew
Do you have it in the anal area?
1:03:28
Caller
Mine is on, no, it's in the wall between the rectal and...
1:03:32
Drew
Yeah, but not on the rectal side though.
1:03:34
Caller
No, not at all, but it can move over there.
1:03:36
Caller
Well, if it does...
1:03:38
Drew
It's a more serious issue over there because it becomes associated with anal cancer.
1:03:41
Adam
Okay, but like I said, just like everyone said, be straight with the next guy. This is part of what you're doing and the part of the journey you're making in your life. And they don't have to know about all the shame that potentially brought you these warts.
1:03:56
Drew
This guy's doing handsprings because you're going to have sex with him, that's all.
1:03:59
Adam
Yeah, that's what I hear when I hear this. Yeah, this means yes.
1:04:02
Drew
Yeah, this means we're going there, right.
1:04:03
Adam
Right.
1:04:04
Caller
Shed the shame.
1:04:05
Adam
Hey, Ariel?
1:04:06
Drew
Yeah.
1:04:07
Adam
Yeah, I like that, shed the shame. You're 17, what's up?
1:04:10
Caller
I just wanted to ask Robert if he's still planning on being in Hamlet under the direction of Mel Gibson?
1:04:18
Drew
Does a stage performance?
1:04:19
Guest
That's so high, bro. What show are we on now? We might do that at some point, yeah. We were going to do it last, around Christmas time, and things took a turn for the worse for me for a minute there, but maybe next spring or summer.
1:04:43
Caller
Okay, in Los Angeles?
1:04:44
Guest
Yeah, we do it in LA.
1:04:46
Caller
That would be cool, because I think you're such a great actor.
1:04:50
Guest
I appreciate it.
1:04:51
Adam
Yeah, I'll tell you, I'll take this moment to kiss Robert's ass for a second. Oh, yeah. You've obviously had your ups and downs in life, and nobody's, well, at least no one I know has turned on you. Like, they like you so much, and they like your work so much, and Drew, do you know what I'm saying? We've got a lot of people in here that have had trouble with addiction, they've had some bad times, and people sort of turn on them, like, especially if you do it a couple of times, like screw him, he deserves it, get rid of him, I hope he rot in jail. But with Robert Downey Jr, it's been like people are like pulling for you, and part of it is your talent, I think, that people really respond to. But I think the other part is your humanity that's maybe comes through in your work, or I don't know what it is, but people seem to really like you and really be pulling for you. And I don't know what that means to you. I mean, does that help you? Is that pressure for you?
1:05:51
Guest
Well, I think it's better than having people turn on you for sure. I wouldn't know because it's always that part who are like, but we really are pulling for you, and it's really good.
1:06:00
Caller
It is a strange thing, isn't it?
1:06:01
Guest
Yeah.
1:06:01
Drew
I bet it gets...
1:06:02
Caller
People are definitely in your corner.
1:06:04
Drew
I bet it works against you a little bit, though, because then what follows in the heels of that is, we got a job for you right now. We'd like you to, and boom, you're back at work before we have a chance to get focused on you.
1:06:13
Guest
Well, I'm real fortunate that I've been able to, for the first time since I was 17, aside from the summer I spent in Corcoran State Penitentiary, it's the first summer I've had off and through to the end of the year, and it's been really amazing because there's a lot of stuff that I just hadn't really ever got off the habit trail to look at. So, all the support and, like you're saying, the goodwill ultimately has sometimes carried me along when nothing else seemed like it would have. And being able to do something like this, benefit honestly with friends and people who are like family to me, it's almost like I feel like maybe people are recognizing that ultimately when I put this behind me a little bit at a time, that this would be the kind of stuff I'd want to do just because, as we all know, when you're out of yourself, you're actually benefiting more than when you're being self-indulgent.
1:07:03
Adam
Robert told me, by the way, that he would listen to the show when he was in Corcoran.
1:07:08
Guest
Who?
1:07:09
Drew
Where is that?
1:07:10
Guest
Corcoran?
1:07:11
Adam
Yeah, it's right out here.
1:07:12
Guest
By Bakersfield?
1:07:14
Adam
It's not bad. They got radios. Yeah.
1:07:16
Drew
In Bakersfield?
1:07:17
Adam
Yeah, they listen.
1:07:18
Guest
Even Fresno, too.
1:07:19
Adam
They're closer to Fresno. Listen to the Loveline over there. Yeah. That's why I'm always... And this is our core audience, by the way.
1:07:27
Guest
I want to say hi to all the brothers who are doing Time. I also want to say hi to my friend, Catnip, aka Michael V, who's down in San Diego County Jail right now.
1:07:38
Adam
And stay up, bro. And what... Now, what was you... What were you... Were you in for, like, nine months, did you say?
1:07:44
Guest
I was in for a year and a half.
1:07:46
Adam
Jesus.
1:07:47
Guest
Yeah. Yeah.
1:07:48
Adam
Well, you're... I don't know. I don't want to say good. I don't want to say bad.
1:07:53
Guest
Great!
1:07:54
Adam
I mean, was it a good... Did you feel like it saved your life in any way? Do you know? I mean, I know guys... I have friends who went in and it saved their lives. Because they were at a point where they were...
1:08:06
Guest
You know that I got out and then continued after several other little bits of... So for me...
1:08:12
Caller
I can understand that personally.
1:08:13
Guest
Yes.
1:08:14
Caller
I can relate. You did that? Things come along where you would say to yourself, there's no way this person could possibly go back to using after that. Maybe your best friend dies in your arms from an overdose and you think, well, that'll sort of solve his problem. It doesn't.
1:08:29
Drew
You could say that if you've never known this disease. You know what I'm saying? People that really know this disease, it just makes sense.
1:08:34
Caller
I can understand going out after serving a year and a half.
1:08:37
Drew
I've seen worse things.
1:08:38
Guest
Sure. As they say, out the gate by eight, in the spoon by noon, back again by ten.
1:08:46
Caller
Wow.
1:08:47
Drew
Is that in the penitentiary, that's the saying?
1:08:49
Guest
Yes.
1:08:50
Adam
It's not actually printed up and framed and put up on the wall in the rec center, is it?
1:08:54
Drew
They chant it every morning at the Pentecostal Allegiance.
1:08:56
Adam
It's not a mantra. It's not prison policy, is it?
1:08:59
Drew
No, it's not. What's policy, Adam?
1:09:01
Adam
Well, it's colloquialism that's picked up in the joint.
1:09:04
Guest
But as you know, as a specialist, too, and I think that there's starting to be a bit of a movement in that is that everyone operates at a different wavelength and you never quite know but it seems like the people have just been constantly saying, well, we're not going to judge this. We're going to keep doing this and trying different stuff. I think that that's kind of where things are headed is applying as many different possible remedies as you can for a given individual.
1:09:33
Adam
Sure. Were there resources for you when you were in? I mean, did they have programs?
1:09:39
Guest
Yeah, there was a TC therapeutic community going on there but I think more than anything else was, you know, some of it could be counterproductive. I wouldn't say that prison is somewhere that saves your life, whether there's a program there or not, it's inherently dangerous and degrading and heartbreaking. But, looking back on it, it lets me know all those times, whether it was times that I was in, I wasn't under the influence of anything for that entire period of time. But you look back on things, you know, the human spirit is so strong that you can, I think it's just important to survive whatever it is that you've been putting yourself through until it runs its course and then do everything you can to keep it right.
1:10:27
Drew
So another way of saying that is when you're done, you're done.
1:10:31
Caller
I also find my experience is never give up on somebody else because as long as somebody's breathing, there is hope for that person. It doesn't matter how impossible their situation seems to be, if there's a degree of willingness at all, there's hope.
1:10:46
Drew
Anthony and I were talking out the air about some cases that I was involved with that Anthony knows and we have seen some miracles. My willingness was not even a concept that some of these people could even have, but they were breathing. Barely, albeit, but they were breathing and they were miracles.
1:11:00
Caller
Yeah, I've seen the worst cases I've ever seen and they've come back to be clean and incredibly creative and productive people.
1:11:08
Adam
Well, I haven't seen this kind of tragedy myself, but my TiVo cramped out like two weeks ago. Oh, man. Not for one night, but for three days. And there were times when I almost slipped.
1:11:23
Caller
I never lost faith in you.
1:11:25
Adam
But that's the point. I had people behind me. I felt their strength and their goodwill and I stayed with it. And with God willing, it's going to stay together for a while. One taped program at a time, though. That's the thing.
1:11:38
Caller
How much my mom loves you, Robert?
1:11:41
Adam
Oh.
1:11:41
Caller
Oh, man, she loves you so much.
1:11:43
Adam
Really?
1:11:44
Caller
Yeah. You talk about that humanity, that sort of inner something that, you know, every human, every man, every woman can relate to, the kind of compassion that people get.
1:11:53
Drew
To Pissy and Robert?
1:11:54
Adam
Yeah.
1:11:55
Caller
Yeah. Or in lots of people, Robert, you know, because we're talking about him right now, but my mom is very sensitive like that.
1:12:01
Adam
But in one more just quick ass lick before we go to overdue break. I don't hang around with real sophisticated people and they don't seem to know the difference between one guy's acting and another guy's acting, especially when it's on Ali McBeal. They don't know what guys are acting like. They know what people they like. Yeah. They actually think the skipper is trapped on the island. I mean, my buddies.
1:12:24
Caller
What are you trying to say? He's not?
1:12:25
Adam
No, that's... Oh, I don't want to burst any bubbles here. But with Robert, it's like people who don't care about acting don't seem to know about acting. They're like, that guy is so good. And that is... I mean, it's one thing to have the critics recognize it, but the people aren't necessarily interested in it or too educated about it. To really...
1:12:46
Caller
No pressure, man.
1:12:46
Adam
For you to really speak to them is an incredible gift.
1:12:49
Guest
Now I want to get drunk.
1:12:51
Adam
We'll take a break. Let's go to the park, see if we can score. And we'll be right back after this. Hey, it's the Loveline. I'm Adam. That's Drew over there. Robert Downey Jr. and Anthony Kiedis are here tonight. They are here to promote a very worthy cause for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. And that's going to be a benefit that's going on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, coming up in the next few days. Big, big bands, big, big celebrities and a real good cause. And you can get tickets through Ticketmaster and you can go on to their website and just track them down, all right?
1:13:32
Caller
Something's going on here.
1:13:33
Adam
That's right.
1:13:34
Caller
Must be.
1:13:35
Adam
All right. Let's talk to Aaron who's 27.
1:13:40
Caller
Hi, Adam. Dr. Drew.
1:13:42
Adam
Hey, Aaron.
1:13:43
Caller
I called because I wanted to ask Anthony a question.
1:13:46
Adam
Here he is.
1:13:48
Caller
I've had this question I've wanted to ask you since 94. And I knew that if I met you, I'd ask you this. I entered this contest with the Rockets for Coupon in the Stupor Hood, your fan club, that your dad runs. And he had this cover contest where he had to design a cover for the next magazine that was coming out.
1:14:09
Caller
I remember the contest.
1:14:12
Caller
Yeah, so your dad gave me this prize and said that I won, and you actually picked my design. And I just want to know if that was true, if you actually picked it, or if you remember it.
1:14:25
Caller
I remember looking at tons of artwork that people sent in, and I remember commenting on all of it. My memory does get hazy.
1:14:33
Caller
Oh, it's OK.
1:14:33
Caller
But what did it look like?
1:14:36
Caller
Well, I kind of took, it was a motif a little bit off of Blood Sugar Sex Magic, as opposed to Blood Sugar Sex Water, like the guy you called earlier.
1:14:47
Caller
That was Charlie, the guy who said, I'm going downhill.
1:14:51
Caller
Except for, because, you know, I kind of thought that was really sexual.
1:14:54
I saw something very sexual about the cover of that album.
1:14:58
Adam
What did you draw, though?
1:15:00
Caller
Oh, well, in the center of the rose, I put my cubic area where I had shaved the logo in.
1:15:07
Caller
Yes, yes, yes, yes. I came right back.
1:15:09
Adam
Shaved the logo?
1:15:10
Caller
She had shaved the Red Hot Chili Peppers asterisk into her cubic hair, and it looked hot, and you won. Didn't you ever see the magazine with you in it?
1:15:18
Caller
Oh, yeah. Except for, you know what? He edited me out. No, no, I didn't get the cover just because, you know, there's a lot of ten-year-olds in your club and stuff like that.
1:15:27
Caller
You were in there somewhere. I remember.
1:15:29
Caller
Yeah, I know, but they covered the good part. I can't believe how many creepy mails I got from people I've known.
1:15:36
Adam
Why are you asking if you won if you know-
1:15:38
Drew
No, no, she wants to know if Anthony actually picked it.
1:15:40
Caller
I want to know if he really picked it.
1:15:41
Caller
Oh, I saw it and I gave it a full approval.
1:15:45
Drew
Two thumbs up.
1:15:46
Caller
It looked, it was a great design.
1:15:48
Caller
Yeah, you know what?
1:15:48
Caller
I got to tell you that-
1:15:49
Caller
You see a lot of Mohawks out there, a lot of clean shaven, you don't see a lot of asterisks.
1:15:53
Caller
Well, that's true. I had to grow it out for a month to be able to get that kind of, like- Get some real definition.
1:16:02
Adam
How much work is involved with growing your pubic hair though? Can you still hold down a job? Is that something you can do at the workplace?
1:16:09
I don't know.
1:16:11
Caller
I just felt a little bit like woodsy or something.
1:16:16
Adam
I see.
1:16:16
Caller
By not being as clean as I can.
1:16:18
Adam
Right. Did you have a man at the time?
1:16:23
Caller
Yeah, he helped me because...
1:16:26
Adam
He was okay with the sort of Dan Haggerty beard down there?
1:16:31
Caller
There's no Dan Haggerty.
1:16:34
Adam
I mean, she had to grow it out in order to...
1:16:35
Caller
It was more of a George Michaels thing.
1:16:38
Drew
The Fuller beard.
1:16:40
Adam
Alright, Aaron.
1:16:41
Drew
Alright, Aaron, here we go.
1:16:42
Adam
Don't have any kids.
1:16:44
Caller
No, I don't. Did you... Do you play in a band called Anthem in high school?
1:16:49
Caller
No, but I introduced a band called Anthem in high school.
1:16:53
Adam
Alright, Aaron.
1:16:54
Caller
Adam's getting triggered. Finger happiness here.
1:16:57
Adam
That's a lot of just funky folks calling tonight. Alexandra?
1:17:03
Caller
Hi, I'm a long time listener, first time caller.
1:17:05
Adam
Great.
1:17:05
Caller
It's really great to be talking with you guys. I'm also a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. I think you're really talented and I was just wondering what you look for, I guess, in a project. Is it in the script, in the director? What kind of aspects of a good movie do you look for before undertaking a project?
1:17:26
Guest
Oh, I see. Half the time, if by the time I'm done reading it, I've thrown it across the room and say, how dare they send me this crap, I'll probably wind up doing it.
1:17:35
Caller
Really?
1:17:36
Guest
And the other half the time, I'm lucky enough to just follow my intuition and go with what feels like I'm supposed to do.
1:17:44
Adam
How much does stuff change? I mean, like, let's say you read the script and the script's sort of so-so, but you know there's a great director who maybe you've worked with or whose work you appreciate that's attached to it. Do you go, this guy's going to make this work? Do you know what I mean?
1:17:59
Guest
Yeah. Well, I think it is an exact science, but I'm not the type to want to spend half the day being one of those like really like conscientious work at work at work at act types. Usually what you look at what a director just did and if it pales by comparison to what he's been doing before, then it means that he'd probably like you to be involved in his downward spiral.
1:18:20
Adam
Right.
1:18:21
Guest
Meanwhile, I only say that because my first reaction to having to work for a living is always this is this is really sucks.
1:18:30
Adam
Right.
1:18:31
Guest
But I've always worked for a living whether I was selling shoes or working at clubs or as a bus boy. So I've just always had somewhat of an aversion to work until I start.
1:18:42
Adam
And then then enjoy the process?
1:18:44
Guest
Usually, yeah.
1:18:45
Adam
And what about I would imagine that other people that are signed on would be could entice you as well.
1:18:52
Guest
Yes.
1:18:52
Adam
I mean, they're cast members working with people.
1:18:55
Guest
But largely it's an intuitive thing.
1:18:57
Caller
I like the intuition.
1:18:57
Guest
Thank you for asking.
1:18:59
Caller
It's to pay attention to your intuition.
1:19:01
Drew
I agree.
1:19:01
Caller
Yeah.
1:19:02
Drew
People would not have taught that in this country. And it's a huge deal. But it kind of sounds like you had a version to working except you still have a version when you're working. Right. That's true. You have a version to starting and then once you're in it it's bad too.
1:19:18
Adam
Yeah.
1:19:18
Drew
It's all bad.
1:19:19
Guest
It's a child energy. It's just like school.
1:19:22
Adam
Yeah. Yeah.
1:19:23
Guest
You know you're going to go and you want to graduate and you're going to feel better and that's where all your friends are and it's what you're supposed to do. Right. It's just like, oh mom, make mine scramble. Mom, I'm sick.
1:19:31
Adam
Well, my motto is decide what you want to do in life and then take a nap. That's my approach. It says nothing that couldn't be done tomorrow or possibly the next day. Kate?
1:19:44
Caller
Yes.
1:19:44
Adam
You're 20?
1:19:46
Caller
Yes, I am.
1:19:46
Adam
What's up?
1:19:47
Caller
Okay, this may sound stupid, but I think I have sex wrong and I was wondering, because you're four people, you could tell me what I should do instead. I've had sex with three different guys and none of them all came.
1:19:57
Adam
None of them had an orgasm.
1:19:58
Drew
You're fat.
1:19:59
Adam
Drew, please, please. We don't know that.
1:20:01
Caller
It could be true.
1:20:02
Caller
You never know.
1:20:03
Adam
Well.
1:20:04
Caller
Why couldn't you come if she was fat?
1:20:06
Adam
No, I drew was very cruel that way. I think women are all God's creatures and I will hump the bejesus out of any of them, whatever what shape they're in. I hear here.
1:20:17
Caller
Yeah.
1:20:18
Adam
Three guys, no semen.
1:20:20
Caller
Right.
1:20:21
Drew
Did something cut things short or were these extraordinary circumstances?
1:20:25
Guest
Did you live near a train station?
1:20:26
Drew
Were you in Afghanistan?
1:20:28
Caller
No, no. I'm in Arizona. It was one of those things where you're at a party, you're kind of drunk, like, hey, let's hook up and hooked up and they didn't come.
1:20:36
Adam
Or were they drunk?
1:20:37
Caller
Yes.
1:20:38
Drew
Well, there you go.
1:20:39
Adam
That'll do it. Mysterious.
1:20:40
Caller
But all three?
1:20:41
Drew
All three.
1:20:43
Caller
No, actually only one thirty-two.
1:20:44
Drew
Alcohol can work against guys, and actually really any drug of abuse can work against sexual functioning. Some people find that they're sort of de-repressed, they're less anxious, so they feel like they're performing better. But the reality is it all works against normal performance.
1:20:59
Adam
But hey, Kate, what's up? You're twenty, haven't had a boyfriend?
1:21:03
Caller
I had two.
1:21:05
Adam
And did you have sex with them?
1:21:06
Caller
I had sex with one of them.
1:21:08
Drew
And he didn't come?
1:21:09
Caller
No.
1:21:09
Adam
In the span of this relationship, I mean, you had sex with them multiple times?
1:21:14
Caller
Probably, I don't know, we were only going out for about three months, so I probably had sex maybe four times, like during the end of the relationship, before I kind of dropped him.
1:21:21
Adam
But he wasn't some guy you hooked up with at a keger.
1:21:24
Caller
No, but he was pretty wasted that night, too.
1:21:27
Adam
He was wasted the four times he had sex with you?
1:21:30
Caller
Well, he was in a frat, so yeah.
1:21:32
Guest
Was it a Tantric frat?
1:21:35
Adam
Yeah, it's a Sting's frat.
1:21:37
Caller
Sorry.
1:21:38
Adam
A campus screw all night out or something.
1:21:41
Caller
Have sex with someone who's sober, see what happens there. Just crazy idea.
1:21:47
Adam
Kate, you just need to hook up and get in a steady relationship and find a guy you're in love with and have that moment.
1:21:55
Caller
Okay, so it's not me? Like I don't need to change anything?
1:21:58
Drew
Well, if you do, somebody who's involved with you will tell you.
1:22:01
Adam
Well, what would you think if it was you? Do you have anything we need to know about?
1:22:05
Caller
I guess that I don't know.
1:22:06
Caller
I have no clue at all.
1:22:08
Drew
You're just doing your thing.
1:22:10
Adam
All right. You're fine. It's just the guys.
1:22:13
Caller
Okay.
1:22:13
Adam
It's always the guys.
1:22:14
Caller
I think it's the beer. I think it's the booze.
1:22:16
Drew
Yeah. I agree.
1:22:17
Adam
I'll hook up with a regular guy, but still, she had a boyfriend and this guy was drunk all the time? Yeah.
1:22:22
Drew
She'll only hook up with him at a fraternity party. What kind of boyfriend is that?
1:22:25
Guest
Four times in three months. That sounds like they were married.
1:22:27
Drew
Not a boyfriend.
1:22:28
Caller
Do it outside. That helps, too.
1:22:29
Adam
All right. All right. Good times there, Kay. Right. All right.
1:22:36
Drew
Time for the Peter Fonda drop.
1:22:37
Guest
That was in Palos Verdes, that last one, huh?
1:22:39
Adam
Yeah. I guess it was.
1:22:41
Drew
All right.
1:22:41
Adam
We're going to take ourselves a little bit of a break here. We got Robert Downey Jr. and Anthony Kiedis all here to promote a very wonderful cause, Drew.
1:22:53
Drew
Indeed, it is the Silver Lining, Silver Lake benefit for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. Again, Ticketmaster is where you can get the tickets. Look up Silver Lining. The website, probably tomorrow when the traffic will slow down enough that you can actually get on to the site, it's www.silverliningsilverlake.com.
1:23:10
Adam
And it's all going to a real good cause. So we'll take a break. We'll be right back. Yo, Loveline. I'm Adam, that is Drew. I just told Drew to go get Anthony and Robert. They are now in the studio. And we're here tonight promoting a very, very worthy cause. It's the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic and a big benefit going on. Three days, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Drew and I will be there on Friday doing a little MC work and Robert's going to be there quite a bit. All three days, wasn't it?
1:23:53
Guest
All three days.
1:23:54
Drew
Did you guys know each other before this project?
1:23:56
Guest
Loosely.
1:23:57
Caller
Loosely.
1:23:57
Guest
Yeah.
1:23:58
Caller
I wore Robert like a loose fitting garment for years before this.
1:24:01
Drew
Back to that.
1:24:02
Adam
Yeah.
1:24:03
Guest
And in that particular period of time we had like the bleach blonde hair.
1:24:07
Adam
Yeah.
1:24:08
Guest
That was awesome. I saw that today on MTV. They're doing a retrospective on you. Yeah.
1:24:15
Caller
I'm smiling. This is for you in Radio Land.
1:24:17
Adam
Lisa?
1:24:18
Yeah.
1:24:18
Adam
You're 28?
1:24:19
Caller
Yep.
1:24:20
Adam
What's up?
1:24:21
Caller
I'm starting to get kind of concerned. I have completely just, I don't know, the thought of sex bores me. I feel like I've kind of lost my sex drive. I don't feel like that's normal.
1:24:32
Drew
It's not normal to be so without a sex drive. Is that what you mean?
1:24:36
Caller
I mean, most all my friends are guys and I don't, it's not like I don't have the opportunity. It just doesn't interest me.
1:24:43
Drew
Is it at the point where if you even look at people touching or kissing, it looks kind of like what the hell, what's going on here?
1:24:48
Caller
No, not so much that. I've noticed there is kind of a little twinge of like, God, I wish I still kind of felt that.
1:24:55
Drew
But it's an empty, it's a zero for you.
1:24:57
Caller
Yeah.
1:24:57
Adam
But you're not in a relationship, right?
1:24:59
Caller
No.
1:25:00
Adam
If you hooked up the guy you're really into, wouldn't you be into it?
1:25:04
Caller
I kind of had the opportunity to re-hook up with somebody that I had dated for a while, and it just didn't.
1:25:09
Drew
Are you depressed?
1:25:10
Caller
No.
1:25:11
Drew
Are you on medication?
1:25:12
Caller
No.
1:25:13
Drew
No birth control pills or anything like that?
1:25:14
Caller
No.
1:25:15
Drew
Nothing, nothing over the counter?
1:25:16
Caller
No, I took myself off the pill like two months ago.
1:25:19
Adam
Yeah, why bother? And what are you doing right now? You're working?
1:25:23
Caller
Yeah.
1:25:23
Adam
And is everything going okay?
1:25:25
Caller
Everything's going great at work.
1:25:27
Adam
And do you have any kids or are you divorced?
1:25:29
Caller
No.
1:25:30
Caller
The case of the missing libido.
1:25:32
Caller
I know. I do have to say one little thing, though. Robert Downey Jr., you have been just an acting icon to me for years. I really am just very impressed with all of your work.
1:25:43
Guest
You want to screw? Yeah. Hey, you know what I want to say? Six months ago, I was in the exact same place.
1:25:50
Drew
No sex drive.
1:25:51
Guest
Yeah. And when you're in that space, it doesn't seem like it's ever going to shift. However, there is no external stimuli that's really going to prod it into a change. I did notice, though, when I really focused on myself, I know it sounds so cliché, mundane, and really put some time in of just getting in touch with really what I was feeling and really what came up and working with it and in whatever way seemed to be intuitively appropriate. When it changed, it changed big time.
1:26:23
Adam
Hey, Lisa. Yeah. Yeah, I think your biggest mistake, and I'm kind of agreeing with Robert or making his point again, which is I don't question it so much. There's sort of an ebb and a flow, especially with women sexually, where there's hot times and there's cold times, and you're in a down time. If you're not on medication, you're not depressed, and you're focusing on your work, and you're not in a relationship, then maybe just go with it. Maybe this is God telling you to put down your vibrator and pick up the Bible, and stuff that up your coos.
1:26:56
Caller
No, God would say that.
1:26:58
Caller
One of the little hand held versions.
1:27:00
Drew
Yeah, vibrating, Bible, not the hardcover. Are you menstruating normally?
1:27:04
Caller
Ouch.
1:27:05
Drew
And everything else is normal medically. You haven't lost weight. There's nothing else going on that way.
1:27:09
Caller
No, everything else has been just peachy.
1:27:11
Drew
And again, thinking it through, no over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, anything funny like that.
1:27:14
Caller
No, I'm not into medication of any kind.
1:27:17
Drew
All right, then I'm with Adam.
1:27:18
Caller
You're going to be all right. Like Robert said, it's going to shift. When you least expect it, it seems like it'll never pass. It's going to shift.
1:27:23
Adam
Yeah, and you'll fall in love and get that libido fired up again. Brittany?
1:27:27
Caller
Yes.
1:27:29
Adam
You're 21?
1:27:30
Caller
Yes, I am.
1:27:31
Adam
What's up?
1:27:33
Caller
I have a question for Dr. Drew and all you guys.
1:27:35
Guest
All right.
1:27:37
Caller
I've been with my boyfriend for a little over a year now. I moved in with him about seven, eight months ago and I noticed that he was looking at porn. Okay. Now, I don't have a problem with porn. I actually, I enjoy watching it with him. But then it turned into he'd start signing up for all these personal sites, like Adult Friend Finder and alt.com.
1:27:57
Drew
Whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever.
1:27:58
Caller
Right, right, right. Well, anyways, and he's not chatting with these girls or anything. But why is he doing this? Why is he looking at? I mean, it's like at the minute I leave the room or I go to work, he's looking at it. Why?
1:28:10
Drew
How long have you been with him?
1:28:12
Caller
About a year and two months.
1:28:13
Drew
And when did he start getting momentum with this?
1:28:16
Caller
About six, seven months ago. He said he's always done it.
1:28:18
Drew
Yeah, that's what I think. No, no, no. I think he's always done it. He just put it down for a while to impress you and he's getting back to his normal routine now that it is more comfort in the relationship.
1:28:27
Adam
Right. And guys do this. I have noticed myself do this. That when a woman moves in, you feel like you're being infringed upon somehow and you have to clear your own space, even if it's within the same cave. And that's the computer or that's your porn. It's like a way of sort of escaping from the relationship and still being in the relationship. Don't young guys do this?
1:28:51
Drew
I'm sure they do it. Please don't use yourself as an example of what's normal male behavior. Please don't. It may be what you do and yes, guys do that.
1:29:00
Adam
If you could wrestle your balls away from your wife for 10 minutes, you'd enjoy some porn too. She'd just tell you where she was hiding them. She possibly sold them at a yard sale. Yeah, hey, hey, Brittany?
1:29:12
Caller
Yes?
1:29:12
Adam
How old is this guy?
1:29:14
Caller
He's 29.
1:29:15
Adam
Hmm, he's never lived with a woman? Has he been married?
1:29:18
Caller
Yeah, he's been married before.
1:29:19
Adam
Hmm, do you think he's feeling like a little antsy about living with a woman?
1:29:24
Caller
I don't know, I don't know. I've talked to him, he wants to be with me, he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and all this stuff.
1:29:31
Adam
Right, but doesn't it feel to everyone like he's sort of retreating into his own space when he does this?
1:29:37
Caller
Yeah, well, porn can be very obsessive and very addictive. Absolutely. And personally, it always leaves me feeling incredibly empty and a little bit distant from those that I'm actually close to.
1:29:47
Drew
That's exactly what it does.
1:29:48
Caller
But again, it can be a face thing and hopefully...
1:29:52
Drew
It is, though. It's the crack cocaine of the sex addict. Man, it is just the rocket fuel.
1:29:58
Caller
So you think he's obsessed?
1:29:59
Drew
Well, I'm suspicious. I mean, if it's having consequences and he can't control it, it's something to look at. And there's something I think is important to understand about this is that it's normal to have a certain amount of momentum with these highly arousing kinds of stimuli. I mean, guys kind of get going with it and any male will get some momentum going in. And if that kind of arousal becomes compulsive or a way of managing feelings, you can really get going with it. And it's really about first and foremost getting a little abstinent of staying away from it for a little while and seeing what happens, seeing if the relationship can reestablish itself.
1:30:31
Adam
All right. Hey, Brittany.
1:30:32
Drew
Yeah.
1:30:33
Adam
So should she discuss this with him?
1:30:34
Caller
Yeah, I would. I said discuss.
1:30:35
Caller
Oh, I discussed it with him time and time again. He said he won't give it up. Wow.
1:30:40
Adam
I admire his conviction. And you got to talk to him after he beats off because then he'll be like, are you kind? Never again.
1:30:47
Caller
You're the one he's demoralized.
1:30:47
Drew
Brittany, there's a website, the ncsac.org. Write that down, ncsac.org, which the National Council, NCSAC, National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity. And they have articles there about cyber sex and sexual addictions. You might sort of toss it a little bit that his way and see if it sounds, if he feels like maybe that's him.
1:31:06
Adam
Okay, Robin, we'll try this real fast. You want to know if it's a good idea to get together with a girl who lives with your ex-boyfriend?
1:31:16
Caller
No, no, her, her ex-boyfriend.
1:31:18
Adam
Her ex-boyfriend.
1:31:19
Caller
But that was actually, it is a real question, but that's not really what I wanted to talk about. My first question, I...
1:31:26
Adam
No, listen, you got time for half a question, so go.
1:31:29
Caller
Half a question? How do I get through the depression after... I just got out of rehab and...
1:31:37
Drew
What's your drug of choice?
1:31:38
Caller
Heroin.
1:31:39
Drew
And how long sober are you?
1:31:41
Caller
I'm not.
1:31:42
Drew
Okay. Well, listen.
1:31:44
Caller
I was sober for a week.
1:31:46
Drew
Hang on. Listen, the one thing about hair and withdrawal is that it leaves you with a profound sense of emptiness, like a loss, like someone you loved has died, and there is no medication, there's nothing that gets you over that. You have to stay in the program, stay connected with other people, stay with a high degree of structure so you can tolerate it because it does get better with time, but it takes many weeks.
1:32:07
Adam
And you've got to get clean just to begin that.
1:32:10
Caller
I also wanted to say to Robert that you've been such an inspiration.
1:32:14
Guest
Thank you so much.
1:32:15
Caller
You give me, like, hope that I might be able to do it.
1:32:18
Guest
Well, I'm telling you that when I was in the space where you say you're at right now, it's so funny that you're wondering where things are going on, but you haven't quite put it down. I assure you, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you cannot even begin to experience how awesome your life will be. It's just a matter of time. Let it run its course and don't look back. You can do it, honey. I swear to God.
1:32:44
Adam
Thanks, Robin. Thank you. Alright, take care of yourself.
1:32:48
Drew
Get back into a place where you're living in a structured environment. It's what you need right now.
1:32:51
Adam
Alright, we'll be right back. Well, that is it. Where did the time go? I want to thank Robert Downey Jr. and Anthony Kiedis for coming in here and being just great, great guests, open books and sharing lots of insights and stories and really a treat to have you guys on.
1:33:18
