Voiceover
Listener discretion is advised. Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew Loveline, Coast to Coast.
1:13
Adam
Hey, everybody. It's Loveline. I'm Adam. Where's my goddamn coffee? Corolla. And that's my good partner over there. Doctor, where's my goddamn coffee? Drew. He's a board-certified physician, addiction medicine specialist. Phone number 1-800-LLVE-191. Stephen Jenkins is here tonight from Third Eye Blind. Always good to see Stephen.
1:36
Third Eye Blind
With my coffee addict friends.
1:38
Adam
Yeah. Well, we need it. It's what keeps us going here. Third Eye Blind is going to be performing this Saturday. At the Will-Turn Theatre along with a whole bunch of other really good bands for a really good cause. And Stephen's here tonight talking about that.
1:53
Third Eye Blind
Yes, I am.
1:54
Adam
Well, why don't we get into that? Are there stick-ets? Are there tickets still available?
1:59
Third Eye Blind
No, there's plenty of stick-ets.
2:01
Adam
Well, that's me taking the word still in tickets and just streamlining.
2:05
Third Eye Blind
Well, they say it's sold out, but it doesn't mean that something may not be available at the door. You know, if you want to get in, you can get in.
2:11
Adam
Well, I would imagine...
2:13
Third Eye Blind
But it's sold out.
2:14
Adam
Yeah, it would seem like most of the acts on this bill could just fill this place on their own. Third Eye Blind, the crazy town Sugar Ray, Nick Acosta, almost the Third Eye Blind again, run DMC. I mean, it's a pretty good line up.
2:29
Third Eye Blind
Let's not leave out the Deftones. Those guys have been in this from the beginning. They're just beautiful people. I gotta send a big shout out to them.
2:35
Adam
Oh, yeah. The Deftones was, Steph was just on here just a couple of weeks ago.
2:40
Third Eye Blind
They're gonna be in town.
2:42
Adam
Oh, good. So they'll be there too. Well, I'll add that to my list. And again, that's at the Wiltern Theater, which is, it's really an ingenious name. It's on the corner of Wilshire and Western. You get it? Talk about the creative genius. Thank you, Sarah. Okay. We got our coffee now.
2:59
Third Eye Blind
Coffee, sir.
3:00
Adam
Third Eye Blind's gonna be, you're working on an album now?
3:03
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, we're writing an album right now. And I've just been doing my spare time with the Breathe Benefit, putting this thing together.
3:10
Adam
It's been a lot of work.
3:11
Third Eye Blind
It ain't been easy, kid.
3:12
Adam
This is to benefit breast cancer. And have you been touring around with this? Or is this the first one?
3:18
Third Eye Blind
No, this is really the inaugural of what should be a yearly event, hopefully. And it started off when, after my mother contracted breast cancer a couple years ago, I started thinking about how we could sort of widen the scope of who pays attention to this disease, because it's always seen as sort of a women's issue. And breast cancer, what I realized is, it's not a women's issue, it's a family issue, it's a son's issue, it's my issue. Something that was attacking my family. So if you can widen the scope of awareness and who pays attention to it, then you widen the scope of fundraising. And this is a disease that's going to get solved with money.
3:55
Adam
How's your mom doing?
3:57
Third Eye Blind
She's in recovery. And one of the reasons why is because she had access to health care. And there's a lot of women in this country who don't. And so some of the proceeds for this show are going to go to agencies that provide treatment for underprivileged women.
4:13
Adam
Drew, how much better is it? I don't mean this better, but to have breast cancer in 2001 as opposed to 1955.
4:22
Drew
Oh, well, much.
4:23
Adam
Yeah, and what about 1975?
4:26
Drew
Better, but over 50 is dramatically better. I mean, most young women that get breast cancer can expect to live a long time.
4:32
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, and they can also expect to go through totally draconian medical practices. I mean, you still get cut, and you still have to go through radiation and chemotherapy and all these kinds of things are, although hopefully they save your life, they're quite debilitating. So it's real and it's here, and we're in a time right now where this isn't something that we're paying attention to. Obviously, the nation's attention is focused on other things, but we decided to keep going with this show when a lot of people have canceled shows because it's still here, it's still going on.
5:09
Adam
Well, I think that the nation's attention is focused in a philanthropic way. I mean, with an eye on the Middle East, obviously, and New York, but I think people, it's a good time in the sense that people are just generally into causes and giving and giving back.
5:26
Third Eye Blind
That's not really true.
5:27
Adam
Oh, it isn't?
5:28
Third Eye Blind
No.
5:28
Adam
Good. Screw all you Americans.
5:30
Third Eye Blind
No. What's really going on? No. Animal shelters are closing because they're not getting funding. We were actually going to do this show at the Greek Theater, and that's a place we sold out in two hours the last time we played there. Because it's a benefit, the focus is really elsewhere. The fundraising that we expected to do has been greatly curtailed because of the World Trade Center events. Oh, really?
5:56
Adam
Well, I'm 100 percent wrong.
5:57
Third Eye Blind
You're seeing a really different focus.
5:59
Drew
But more money is being put in, but it's all going elsewhere.
6:03
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. It's totally a worthy cause. We did a benefit for the Red Cross, and I'm all for it.
6:10
Drew
Is the reason people don't come to a concert, though, is that people are reluctant to go out and congregate right now? Yeah.
6:15
Third Eye Blind
LA is asleep. I mean, you can see it.
6:17
Adam
Yeah, I like it that way.
6:18
Third Eye Blind
Me too.
6:19
Adam
It's easier to get around.
6:21
Third Eye Blind
There's less fakes running around out there.
6:23
Adam
Newspapers are free. Old man's sleeping right on the corner. I'll just pull it right out from under his ass.
6:28
Third Eye Blind
I'm actually loving LA right now.
6:30
Adam
I like it a little comatose. It's when it's a wide awake and celebrating Cinco de Mayo when we're in trouble. All right, so this is coming up this Saturday. It's going to be at the Will-Turn, which is a great art deco historical theater, and we don't have too many of those in LA. This is about as nice as it gets out here, and a bunch of really good bands and a really good cause.
6:53
Drew
Are you encouraging people to go to the box office tomorrow, at show time?
6:57
Adam
Is that what you're saying?
6:58
Drew
Saturday. Saturday rather?
6:59
Third Eye Blind
There's never been a show I wanted to get into, I couldn't get into. That's all I'm saying.
7:04
Adam
You're in a band.
7:04
Third Eye Blind
You know what? Little Kim is going to come out and play with us.
7:06
Adam
Oh, really?
7:07
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. I mean, this is how we're doing the show. Liz Fair is somebody who I've been a huge fan of for a long time, and she's going to play, and she's just going to jam with Third Eye Blind.
7:16
Adam
That's great.
7:17
Third Eye Blind
And then Little Kim is coming out from New York, and she's going to do a song with us, and I don't know what's going to happen, but something.
7:23
Drew
I am really afraid we're going to have a riot at the box office.
7:26
Adam
No, it's not that crowd. It's a breast cancer crowd, Drew.
7:29
Third Eye Blind
All you have to do is control yourself, Drew, and then there won't be a riot.
7:32
Adam
You'll be fine.
7:33
Third Eye Blind
Just behave.
7:33
Drew
I will.
7:34
Adam
And, jeez, I want to talk a little about acting, too. Well, we'll take a call. Remind me, I saw Rockstar. I thought you were really good in it.
7:41
Third Eye Blind
Thanks.
7:41
Adam
And I'm assuming there's going to be more acting for you.
7:45
Third Eye Blind
Well, let's let the healing begin.
7:46
Adam
But after the healing, right. Kimberly?
7:49
Hello?
7:50
Adam
You're 17?
7:51
Caller
Yeah.
7:51
Adam
What's up?
7:53
Caller
Okay. I met this guy in a meeting, and we started dating for a couple months.
7:59
Third Eye Blind
In a meeting or a movie?
8:01
Caller
A meeting.
8:02
Adam
Yeah, I thought it said movie too.
8:03
Caller
And a meeting.
8:04
Adam
Okay.
8:07
Caller
And we started dating for a couple months, and he was really nice. And I guess we took the step forward and we had sex. And the thing about it was he was extremely big, like the circumference of maybe my breast, okay? And it hurt. And so we couldn't wear a condom.
8:27
Adam
Right. Yeah. Well, you couldn't wear a condom because it wouldn't fit or because the friction was too gray?
8:32
Caller
Both.
8:33
Adam
Wow. And what a compliment. No condom's been built big enough to hold me, baby. Oh, that's great. So you didn't wear a condom.
8:42
No. And-
8:43
Drew
But it hurt her, see? This is another one of those-
8:45
Adam
Another compliment. I'm sorry, but still a compliment. Go ahead.
8:51
Caller
I've been dating this other guy on and off for about a year, and I didn't want to tell him that I slept with this guy because he'd be extremely mad at me.
9:00
Adam
All right.
9:01
Caller
So I found out from little birds around our meetings that this guy never got tested, which he told me he did.
9:12
Drew
For HIV?
9:14
Caller
Excuse me?
9:14
Drew
For HIV?
9:16
Caller
Yeah.
9:16
Drew
Is the IV a drug user?
9:19
Caller
He was a heroin addict.
9:21
Drew
All right. There you go.
9:22
Adam
Well, that's bad.
9:23
Third Eye Blind
Using needles?
9:25
Caller
Yeah. And so that kind of freaked me out, and I decided to get up enough brass balls to actually tell this guy that I slept with the other one. And he freaked out and he got tested, but I'm afraid to get tested myself.
9:41
Third Eye Blind
Oh, go ahead. Go ahead and get tested.
9:44
Adam
Yeah, you don't have anything.
9:46
Caller
The thing is, yeah, I know, but I'm just kind of afraid, I guess.
9:51
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, but listen to you. You're all freaked out right now, and you know what? You really probably don't have it, and when you find out that you don't, you're going to cry tears of joy.
9:59
Adam
Yeah, and how can you go through a life freaked out thinking you have something anyway?
10:03
Drew
This is now a disease that can be rendered into a chronic condition. It doesn't have to kill you. I have tons of patients that live 10 years with that virus on proper therapies. It is easily suppressible. You suppress the viral reproduction. You suppress the demamish immune system. The earlier that starts, the better the outcomes. It's just a clear cut situation. When I was in training, somebody came in with that disease. We gave them six months. That was it.
10:27
Adam
And if they didn't die after six months, you'd kill them just so you'd be right?
10:31
Drew
The first episode of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia was a six month death sentence. Absolutely.
10:35
Adam
That turned into grids and then it turned into AIDS?
10:38
Drew
That was all AIDS at that point. Now people know nothing for 10, 15 years.
10:44
Third Eye Blind
It's fine. But you know what the thing is, is that you're dying inside right now, worrying about it. So go get tested and be sure and then you'll be glad.
10:50
Adam
Speaking of dying inside, imagine the boyfriend is like, okay, I slept with this guy, but here's the bad news. His dong was so huge that three condoms weren't enough for it.
11:04
Third Eye Blind
So yeah, I get that all the time.
11:05
Adam
So we had it unprotected. Second to a guy, I mean, what is the second worst news beside the girl sleeping with a guy? I think it's the guy having a huge penis. When in that like a close second?
11:19
Drew
It just closes the whole deal.
11:20
It's like, it's just done.
11:21
Third Eye Blind
It's definitely a triple threat.
11:23
Adam
Right.
11:24
Third Eye Blind
Uses needles, built like a coke can, it's a bummer.
11:29
Adam
That's right. The one is the coffin and then the other two would be the two nails on top of the lid. All right. Let's talk to Jason, who's 28. Jason?
11:37
Yeah.
11:38
Adam
What's up?
11:39
Hey, I've got a question about my wife's breast.
11:42
Adam
Finally.
11:43
Caller
One is a lot larger than the other.
11:46
Third Eye Blind
Variety.
11:47
Caller
Variety, yeah. But we was wondering about some of the things that we might be able to do to equal them out, and she had seen an advertisement for one of those pills that enlarge your breast. Right. Would that do anything?
12:03
Third Eye Blind
You have to only take half a pill.
12:04
Adam
Yeah, take the right half if the right boob is smaller than the left half.
12:09
Drew
Obviously, even if those pills did something, they would equally affect both breasts, but they don't do anything.
12:14
Caller
Okay. What might have caused that?
12:17
Drew
That's normal. Many, many women.
12:19
Adam
Satan worship, infidelity, stuff like that.
12:21
Drew
I don't know about most, but a significant percentage have either size differential or sort of directionality differences or shape differences.
12:29
Adam
Asymmetry, they call it.
12:31
Third Eye Blind
I like the directionality, though, because it's kind of casual.
12:34
Caller
Yeah.
12:34
Adam
One's going toward Macca, the other's pointing toward your grandparents' house.
12:38
Caller
They're both pointed pretty equal, but the size is quite a bit of difference in size.
12:44
Drew
Very common.
12:44
Third Eye Blind
I recommend that you name them each. You give them each different names. I mean, the big one, Junior, and the little one, Lill, whatever. Right. Bouncy, bouncy.
12:53
Adam
Right.
12:54
Third Eye Blind
Enjoy it.
12:55
Adam
I say, I'm with Stephen, but I'll take it a step further. Pick up a Bonanza theme. Little John and Hoss. Take the two, the big one and the little one. Then whoever that middle brother was, no one seemed to know was actually older than the dad.
13:10
Third Eye Blind
Tell her how much you dig it. Anyway, that makes everything better.
13:13
Adam
Yeah. Just pay extra attention to the big one. That's fine. It's like dating two women. Nicole?
13:19
Hello?
13:20
Adam
You're 20.
13:21
Caller
Yeah. Hi.
13:22
Caller
What's up?
13:23
Caller
The reason I was calling was about a month ago, I just happened to be down at the beach by where I live. And I met this guy who was down there working. And so he was only going to be here for two weeks for his job. And so while he was here, like we hung out and we talked every day and all that kind of stuff. And I'd go down and hang out and bring my friends. And then like towards the end of the two weeks, I knew he was going to have to leave. And he's like, well, I don't live that far. Come visit me. Call me.
13:51
Blah, blah, blah.
13:53
Caller
Well, then he came home and he's been home for two weeks. And I haven't seen him because he's been really sick. And so he left yesterday to go for another like thing with work for three weeks. And so I'm basically kind of wondering, like, he, when he was here, he would call me and stuff. But now it's more like.
14:12
Third Eye Blind
Wake up, Adam.
14:13
Adam
Yeah, I'm sorry.
14:14
Caller
Where's home?
14:16
Adam
Hold on a second, Gabby. Where's his home when you say he goes home?
14:19
Caller
Oh, he lives in Ontario. He was like 40 minutes from me.
14:24
Adam
You're right. And you guys couldn't keep a relationship going with that 40 minutes apart?
14:29
Caller
What I'm kind of wondering is, with his job, everyone I talk to, they're like, he probably meets so many other girls and you would always be wondering if he's being like.
14:40
Drew
How old is he?
14:40
Caller
He's 25.
14:42
Adam
What does he do?
14:44
Drew
Cheaters cheat whether they have a lot of opportunity or not. Do you know what I'm saying? If this guy's a cheater, he's going to cheat if he works in a monastery.
14:50
Third Eye Blind
And if he wants to see you, he would skateboard to your house.
14:53
Caller
The thing I'm kind of wondering is, I've only known him for a month, so I don't want to be too pushy. But how can I bring it up to be like, you know, I kind of want to know, is this going to lead anywhere? And if it is, am I always going to have to worry every time you leave? But I don't want to bring it up to where.
15:06
Third Eye Blind
I have the perfect advice for you. Here's what you do. Start blowing him off. So life is a two step. You can only do two things. You can either be pursuing somebody or you can be pursued. So if you're tired of pursuing him, stop pursuing him and then he will either pursue you or you will know the truth that he's no damn good.
15:23
Adam
Well, I agree. Blow job. I mean blow off.
15:26
Caller
I just, I don't.
15:27
Third Eye Blind
You said blow job.
15:28
I don't understand why.
15:29
Adam
Wait a minute. What does he do for a living that he meets all sorts of chicks?
15:33
Caller
He skates, but he also works for a company that coordinates all the events. So like in the summer months, it's skating and then now it's turning to snowboarding and I'm like, I'm so worried because after Thanksgiving, he has to go on this trip like they're going to do something with it. It's like a college trip. It has to be nothing but a bunch of college girls. I'm like, no.
15:55
Adam
Yeah. All right. Well, especially since you don't really have a relationship.
15:58
Caller
Yeah. That's kind of what I'm seeing.
15:59
Caller
I don't want to scare him.
16:01
Caller
At the same time, it's like I'm sitting at home wondering.
16:04
Adam
You think this was just a fling for him maybe? Maybe he just used you.
16:07
Caller
But then I always have a tendency to think like, no, they really don't like me. They say they do, but they don't.
16:12
Adam
Well, listen, I agree with Stephen, which is you just lay low and if he's interested.
16:17
Caller
Do you think he'll call?
16:19
Adam
He definitely will.
16:20
Caller
Well, because.
16:21
Adam
No.
16:22
Drew
Stop.
16:23
Adam
Stop. No, it's three guys. See, women think guys don't think like they do and guys think women don't think like they do, which is we know if we're interested, we're on it.
16:33
Drew
That's it. And we don't play games.
16:35
Adam
Not if we're interested.
16:36
Drew
No.
16:37
Adam
I mean, if you're into a chick and she lives 30 miles away, I think you'll make that run.
16:44
Third Eye Blind
Crawl over there.
16:45
Adam
At age 25, it's not like you've got to borrow your older brother's moped or something. The guy's got wheels. And it's like they're so freaked out about the message you're sending, it has nothing to do with that. If guys are interested, you will know it. Unfortunately, the answer is probably no with this one.
17:04
Third Eye Blind
I think their weekend, tatatat, is complete.
17:07
Adam
Yeah. Probably is. And you know how these skateboarders are. Christine?
17:12
Caller
Hi. Hi, guys.
17:13
Adam
You're 18? Hey, what's up?
17:15
Caller
First of all, I love your show. You get that all the time.
17:19
Adam
Thanks.
17:19
Caller
And Stephen, I think you're awesome. I think it's so cool that you're doing this whole breast cancer thing.
17:25
Third Eye Blind
Thanks, Christine.
17:27
Caller
Wow, I'm talking to you. That's so cool. My mom.
17:30
Drew
I like those commentaries. Oh my god, I'm talking to you. That's so cool.
17:34
Adam
Verbalized thought bubbles.
17:35
Third Eye Blind
Keep talking, Christine.
17:36
Adam
Oh my god, I have to pee.
17:38
Drew
I do, guys.
17:38
Caller
I do. But I held on just for you.
17:41
Third Eye Blind
Howdy, girl.
17:41
Caller
My mom, she's kind of personal and she keeps her personal life to herself. And I think that she may have breast cancer because she brings it up every once in a while and then she'll shut down and she won't say anything.
17:53
Third Eye Blind
How does she bring it up?
17:54
Drew
What does she say exactly?
17:55
Caller
Like she's the type of person to throw things in my face when we're having an argument. You know what I mean?
17:59
Drew
What does she say?
18:00
Caller
She'll say like, well, you know, I'm having a hard time in my life and you know, I've got these things in my breast and blah, blah, blah. And then she won't. She'll stop.
18:08
Drew
Well, that's not breast cancer. And then these things in my breast is.
18:11
Caller
Well, she'll say that they're milk deposits. And then my dad will say, you know, I was talking to your mom and she thinks she might have breast cancer. But my mom won't talk to me about it.
18:19
Drew
But she's obsessing about it. But that's not what she has. That's not what she has. That's fibrocystic breast.
18:24
Caller
Wait, wait. And I have a small lump in my left breast. And right.
18:29
Drew
And that's also fibrocystic breast.
18:30
Caller
Yeah. And my doctor said that I had to get it taken out before it got bigger and possibly got cancerous.
18:37
Drew
They don't turn cancerous. They take the lump out to make sure there's not cancer in it.
18:41
Caller
But I don't want to get it taken out. I don't want to scar or anything. I'm not trying to be vain. I just.
18:46
Drew
Did they say they could just follow up with the ultrasounds or with mammograms?
18:48
Adam
What do you mean vain?
18:49
Caller
Well, you know, oh, I don't want to have a scar and blah, blah, blah.
18:53
Adam
Well, right. All right, well, is this.
18:54
Caller
I have a pretty chest. I'm not trying to be vain about it.
18:57
Adam
But does he say you can keep your lump or does he want it out?
19:00
Third Eye Blind
Can we get a Polaroid?
19:02
Drew
How about them doing a needle biopsy? They talk about that.
19:05
Caller
She said that it was too hard. It wasn't like where they could take a fluid out of it or something. Right.
19:13
Drew
Why don't you get another opinion about that too? Because at an 18, a lumpectomy is pretty aggressive. So just get another opinion about that. These are things that can just follow with ultrasounds and watch. Unless you had profound family history of breast cancer in all the females, it was very unlikely that would do what this is.
19:29
Adam
Why don't you talk to your dad about what's up with your mom and her boobs? Not in a sexual way, though, of course not.
19:35
Drew
If it runs in families, it's fibrocystic breast.
19:37
Adam
I know, but she thinks that her mom has breast cancer, and I bet her dad would put her at ease.
19:43
Caller
Well, no, my mom shuts down. She doesn't tell him anything. They have a really bad relationship. It's my stepdad, actually.
19:49
Adam
But isn't your mom the kind of person who, if she did actually have this, would like to flaunt it?
19:55
Caller
No, no, no.
19:56
Adam
Why does she bring it up? Why does she bring it up in the first place then?
20:00
Caller
She certainly brings things up at certain times when she feels comfortable or like as a means to throw it in my face.
20:07
Drew
When she can use it.
20:08
Adam
Yeah, but if she would use it, she'd use it. I mean, if she had it, she'd use it.
20:12
Third Eye Blind
This sounds like that she's kind of lording this over you. If she had breast cancer, she would, it sounds like she'd really lord it over you.
20:19
Adam
She'd play the C card.
20:20
Caller
But she doesn't mention it all the time.
20:22
Drew
Christine, you're not, you're not.
20:24
Caller
I'm scared.
20:25
Drew
I'm scared of her. Listen, Christina, Christine, Christine, if people used things that they used to manipulate and harm people all the time, you'd get used to it and it wouldn't bother you anymore. They only use it when they know it will work, when it can manipulate you, when it can hurt you.
20:38
Third Eye Blind
That's how you do it.
20:39
Adam
I was wondering.
20:41
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, right.
20:42
Adam
Where's my scratch back?
20:42
Third Eye Blind
I was wondering why Drew's always working me and now I figured it out.
20:45
Adam
No, but people that, I would say the people that use stuff use what they got.
20:50
Drew
They do, they absolutely will use it. But they don't use it, it's not all the time because it doesn't have a meaning.
20:54
Adam
No, it doesn't. You build up an immunity to it. It's like a virus, an antibiotic or something like that. Is that right, Drew?
21:03
Drew
Yeah, thanks.
21:04
Adam
That's perfect.
21:04
Drew
Yeah, we're genius, I tell you.
21:06
Adam
Solid. All right. Listen, Christine? Yeah. You got four breasts you're worried about. Don't worry about any of them.
21:12
Drew
We get them all checked like they should be. Yeah, check properly.
21:15
Adam
Do the first and third first and then do the second fourth though. All right. Don't do one, two, three, four. You understand?
21:21
Caller
I'll only be feeling on my own, okay?
21:22
Adam
No, check your mom's right and your left and then your mom's left and your right, like you're tightening lug nuts on a rim. You have to move around so you don't pull the wheel out of center.
21:31
Third Eye Blind
It's like a rim job.
21:32
Adam
That's right. Where's that high hat? Anderson, what's going on in there? I haven't heard any sound effects out of you. You're talking to the ladies? I'll tell you the ladies love, no, they don't. I was going to say they like the Anderson, but no.
21:44
Drew
They do.
21:44
Adam
No, they're repulsed by him.
21:46
Drew
What?
21:46
Adam
Christine? Yeah, it's true. Kristen?
21:49
Oh, hi.
21:49
Adam
Hey, you're 18. What's up? Hey.
21:53
Caller
I think you're hilarious. I love it when you sing to Sister Nova Down. Whatever.
21:57
Adam
Oh, yeah. Maybe we'll do a little of that tonight.
21:59
Caller
I like your vegetarian joke.
22:01
Adam
Yeah, it's a real comedy. No one else thought it was funny but me, but thank you.
22:05
Caller
Stephen, I love you.
22:08
Third Eye Blind
Well, I love you too, sweetie.
22:09
Caller
Your concert was the best concert I've ever been to.
22:12
Third Eye Blind
Thanks. Hopefully, you can go to the will turn tomorrow night. We're going to do a little breast cancer bet.
22:17
Adam
No, she can't because she's in San Francisco.
22:19
Third Eye Blind
Oh, really? That's my hometown. Big up to San Fran Freak Town.
22:25
Caller
I was wondering, what is your favorite song that you've written?
22:29
Third Eye Blind
Mine?
22:29
Caller
Yeah. No, Dr. Drew's.
22:32
Third Eye Blind
Because Drew's got some jams going on right now. Except, of course, they all sound like radio head.
22:39
Adam
Yeah.
22:41
Drew
Erasure. What are you talking about?
22:42
Adam
Yeah. Wasn't it Catherine Wheel, isn't it?
22:45
That's right.
22:46
The new band you've been ripping off?
22:47
Drew
That's right. You're right.
22:50
Third Eye Blind
What's my favorite song that I've written so far?
22:52
Yeah.
22:54
Third Eye Blind
Well, it's probably stuff that's on the new album. I think that's always the way it goes. But I think that right now, I'm writing the best stuff I've written so far. For things that I've recorded so far, probably a B-side called Tattoo of the Sun. And a song on the last album, Blue, which is called Wounded. I actually played that the last time I was on the show.
23:15
Adam
Oh, that's right.
23:16
Third Eye Blind
So, yeah, Wounded.
23:18
Adam
Well, there you go, Kristen. Thank you.
23:20
Third Eye Blind
Thanks, Kristen.
23:21
Adam
We're going to take ourselves a little commercial here. Stephen Jenkins is here from Third Eye Blind and got himself a benefit coming up this Saturday at the Will Turn. Tons of good guests. We'll tell you all about that after this. We'll be right there.
24:08
Caller
Hello, this is Billy Duffy.
24:09
And Ian Asprey from The Cult, and you're listening to Love Line with Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew.
24:14
Adam
Yes, you is. I like those cult guys. Phone number, 1-800-LOVE-191, Alien and Farm in here next week, and who's that whose name I can't read up there, Drew?
24:28
Drew
Miss USA.
24:29
Adam
Oh, Miss USA will be in here. Should have recognized that. Drew was-
24:33
Have you been blind, deaf, and dumb?
24:35
Third Eye Blind
I can't take it, Adam.
24:36
Adam
That's David Alan Greer, who I spoke to today. I'll do a little boxing. Are you? Yeah. I love that guy.
24:44
Drew
Sparring or just hit the ground?
24:45
Adam
No, we don't spar. Just hold the mittens. Yeah. He sweat on each other though. Stephen Jenkins is here tonight from Third Eye Blind. Wow.
24:54
Third Eye Blind
Thank you.
24:54
Adam
Working on the new CD. When is the new CD? When do you think it'll come out?
25:00
Third Eye Blind
I think we'll put it out in June.
25:01
Adam
All right. Yeah.
25:02
Third Eye Blind
I've been building a studio in San Francisco. I finally built my own place.
25:06
Adam
That's nice. Yeah.
25:07
Third Eye Blind
It's cool.
25:08
Adam
Is it at your house?
25:09
Third Eye Blind
No. It's downtown.
25:12
Adam
You actually bought a space and built it?
25:15
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. We actually got the board that the Rolling Stones recorded part of Beggar's Banquet on.
25:21
Adam
Wow.
25:21
Third Eye Blind
It's going to be really cool.
25:22
Adam
Now, would that board go for more than another board?
25:26
Third Eye Blind
It's worth a lot more because Mick Jagger touched it.
25:30
Adam
Is it really?
25:30
Yeah.
25:31
Third Eye Blind
He's in town. Hey, Mick. Yeah.
25:35
Adam
Yeah. Because I wonder, I mean, it would kind of make sense that if, well, you recorded Sergeant Peppers on this board or something, that it'd be worth more than another board from 1960.
25:46
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. But we built the studio and it's going to be great because I just means the clock's not ticking and you get to do totally your own thing. And so we're going to make the record that we really know we can make.
25:56
Adam
But I don't want to play devil's advocate here. But personally, I would need a clock ticking, otherwise I don't get anything done. Do you know what I mean? Like if I had my own space and someone said come and go as you please, I'd never come in. You know what I mean? You don't work that way.
26:13
Third Eye Blind
No. Recording studios tend to just wreak of despair in there and it's horrible. And this is like my own clubhouse.
26:20
Drew
You like your work, see?
26:21
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, exactly.
26:21
Drew
It's equivalent to him building a place to build his model airplanes.
26:25
Third Eye Blind
Or like where I could box with other guys.
26:27
Adam
Oh, yeah, get sweat on each other.
26:29
Third Eye Blind
Time just stops, doesn't it, Adam?
26:31
Adam
Yeah, you're right. You're right. That I would do.
26:33
Drew
You hate your work. Stephen loves his work.
26:35
Adam
That's true. Okay. I know I see it. And are you going to take this place and rent it out and make some money, too? Like when you're on the road and stuff?
26:43
Third Eye Blind
It's really just kind of our place, you know?
26:46
Drew
The answer is no.
26:46
No.
26:47
Third Eye Blind
Okay. All right.
26:48
Adam
Because I'm just going to cut it.
26:48
Third Eye Blind
No, Adam.
26:50
Adam
Eric.
26:51
Oh, hey.
26:52
Adam
Hey.
26:52
Third Eye Blind
Hey, Eric.
26:53
Hey, a long time listener. I think like second time caller. Great. I just first wanted to thank you and Dr. Drew because I don't think if it was for you guys, I would have gotten to therapy when I really needed it. Oh, good for you. Really into strongly, almost proud independent person.
27:11
Drew
Denial, denial.
27:12
I don't know, you guys convinced me. I was all down with it. Anyway, a question for Stephen. How's your new album? I love Third Eye Blind. I like sacrifice goats to you guys every night.
27:22
Third Eye Blind
Thanks. I love going to therapy. Therapy's where we've got something in common twice.
27:29
Anyway, I noticed that your first album was almost like the journey of a character or like a symphony, that there was a definite order and rhythm to it. And I was wondering if your new album is going to be similar.
27:44
Third Eye Blind
Hopefully. I mean, I like to make albums that you can listen to all the way through. And if not, then they're just collections of songs and that gets really boring. So I sort of like old records that are like that. And I think that's the tradition that we try and follow in, which is it's like the big rock tradition of whole albums.
28:08
Adam
Well, is it a rhythm or is it a theme? Do you know what I mean? I mean, is it that some songs would just rhythmically go in front of other songs?
28:18
Third Eye Blind
Well, I think what he's talking about now really, first of all, thank you so much for your praise because I try to make things that have some mood that travels and goes some place over the course of a whole album. I mean, that's what I think rock music can do. Like a dream or something, you know?
28:36
Yeah, it's music that I can really stick with and I've stuck with for years.
28:40
Third Eye Blind
It's my life's work, man.
28:42
I just have such faith in the work that you guys put out.
28:45
Third Eye Blind
Oh, thank you.
28:46
And I particularly appreciated the format of the first album and I'm really excited for the new one now.
28:51
Third Eye Blind
I need people with faith in me because they've been few and far between sometimes. If you catch my drift.
28:58
Adam
I think you have quite a few fans, wouldn't you say?
29:02
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, Third Eye Blind fans are pretty amazing. They seem to really get it. I'm always in awe of them.
29:08
Adam
Well, that's a compliment.
29:10
Third Eye Blind
Indeed.
29:10
Adam
All right. Let's talk to Carney, who's 22. Carney?
29:15
Yes.
29:16
Adam
What's up?
29:18
It's a difficult one.
29:19
Adam
All right.
29:20
Well, kind of. Oh, yeah. From last night, you're talking about who hit 61 home runs. That was a Yankee.
29:27
Adam
That was Roger Maris.
29:28
Yeah.
29:29
Adam
I know.
29:29
Third Eye Blind
That wasn't so difficult.
29:32
Adam
I know. I had a brain freeze and Drew had Drew's brain. So we were left without one for that night.
29:39
Well, my question was, I'll be dating this girl for six months. She told me about a week ago that she still has feelings for her first love. He lives in the same town as she visited him once already. He hasn't seen me for over a week.
29:56
Caller
All right.
29:57
Drew
That one's over.
29:59
Adam
That's right.
29:59
Drew
That's done.
30:00
Adam
You have to get back to your first love, which is masturbation.
30:05
Drew
No, you have to get on. You got to get on with your life.
30:07
Adam
Well, that's what I mean.
30:08
Well, yeah.
30:10
Third Eye Blind
You know, who doesn't have feelings for their first love?
30:12
Adam
That's right.
30:13
Drew
No, but she's using that as an excuse to end this relationship.
30:17
Adam
And by the way, if she is so bold as to talk about another person, it is really over with.
30:23
Drew
Yeah.
30:24
Adam
I mean, usually you get that sort of, I need time to breathe, I need a little time alone, I got to find myself, it's not, is, you know, my favorite line, it's not you, it's me, I hate you.
30:34
Exactly, exactly.
30:36
Adam
But if she's going to bring up another guy and say she's still in love with him, it's over times 10, Carney. Sorry about that.
30:44
That's okay.
30:45
Adam
Well, are you all right?
30:46
Yeah, I'm fine.
30:47
Adam
Can you find somebody new?
30:50
I got a couple of people in mind.
30:51
Adam
Okay.
30:52
Third Eye Blind
Hey, Carney, it's going to feel a lot better when you say, you know what, I think we should call it quits. For you to say that then to hang around and be sure.
31:00
Adam
Yeah. Well, he may not even get that opportunity. You haven't spoken to her in a week, right?
31:05
No, I haven't spoken to her every day.
31:07
Adam
Every day?
31:08
She calls here. She says, I need my space and everything.
31:11
Excuse me.
31:13
Drew
That's the stuff you usually get.
31:14
Adam
Right.
31:15
She calls me though.
31:16
Adam
Right. She's returning your call.
31:18
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, tell her not to call you.
31:19
Drew
Is she returning your call?
31:21
She returns my call.
31:24
Third Eye Blind
You got yourself a playa, playa, playa on your hands.
31:28
Adam
She's calling me.
31:30
Third Eye Blind
She's a pimp.
31:31
Drew
You gotta stop calling, Carney.
31:33
Adam
It's really like being viciously attacked after you hit someone with a bat. That's what her calling you after you call her is. Hey, Carney? Yeah. Let me tell you, she needs her space, right? Right. Don't believe it.
31:51
Drew
She needs to be not with you.
31:53
Adam
Right.
31:53
Drew
That's what she's telling you.
31:55
Adam
Don't live on this dream anymore, Carney. You don't call her. You move on.
32:02
Third Eye Blind
Because in 50 years, you're going to be in a box for the rest of eternity, so get on with it.
32:06
Adam
That's right. Ten years later, you'll die and then they'll bury you.
32:10
Drew
But it is actually your only move. It is actually the only move.
32:13
Adam
I think I misinterpreted the whole box thing.
32:14
Drew
No, I think that's what he's talking about.
32:16
Third Eye Blind
No, what I'm saying is go live your life now.
32:18
Adam
I thought they were going to put him in a box and then that would kill him.
32:20
Drew
Oh, I see.
32:21
Adam
And then they transfer him into another box.
32:23
Third Eye Blind
Nothing could kill Carney.
32:24
Adam
All right, Carney.
32:24
Drew
That's his only move because if he continues to pursue she's going to push a way harder.
32:29
Adam
Right.
32:29
Drew
And if there's any chance she's coming back, it's only going to be when you turn around and go the other way.
32:34
Adam
But you know the toughest thing for guys is this strategy, which is you've got one plan and one plan only. It's one in ten, but here's your one shot. Your plan? Nothing.
32:46
Drew
You go on with your life.
32:47
Adam
It's so hard as a guy, especially when you're so used to scheming and plotting and mapping things out and coming up with ideas and plans. And fixing things. And fixing, right. Something's broken, we got to fix it. I don't care if it's the garage door or the relationship or concrete. And to tell a 22-year-old guy with a ton of testosterone coursing through his veins that here's your plan, you do nothing. You don't pick up the phone, you don't answer the phone, you just hang back and do nothing. I could never do that. And I always remember that's what I had to do, but I had to go do something like proactive or actually pro-retarded, where I actually went forward.
33:25
Third Eye Blind
Sweaty mitts.
33:26
Adam
Sweaty mitted guys.
33:27
Drew
You have to show up at a doorstep looking for your old baseball glove.
33:30
Adam
That is true. That was one of my plans. Well, I'd do that thing.
33:34
Drew
It's good because you found a used condom instead.
33:35
Adam
But me saying, how dare you air my laundry in front of Stephen? Do you realize he looks up to me?
33:41
Third Eye Blind
There's life in that condom yet.
33:46
Adam
Here's what I would do. For me saying, I'm not going to call somebody is the same thing like when I announce, I'm not going to eat.
33:52
Drew
Right. It's the exact same thing.
33:54
Adam
I swear to Christ, every time I announce, no more eating, I can't finish the sentence because my mouth is full. I've stuffed something into my mouth before I've actually got to the eating part of it.
34:05
Third Eye Blind
I'm totally with you.
34:06
Adam
No more calling, no more jacking off. You, whatever I announce, I will do no more of.
34:11
Drew
You're doing it.
34:12
Adam
Yeah. You know the stuff I don't do is the stuff I announce I need to do. Here's what I'm going to start doing.
34:17
Third Eye Blind
Well, you shouldn't say anything about jacking off.
34:18
Adam
Reading and learning to type. When I make those announcements, five years goes by, I do nothing. But the stuff I announce I'll never do happens while I'm announcing it. Drew, seriously, Stephen, you've done this before you go, I'm not beating off. I'm going to bed. I'm going to bed. I'm not beating off.
34:37
Third Eye Blind
I would never say that.
34:38
Adam
I have.
34:38
Third Eye Blind
That's not healthy.
34:39
Adam
It's 4.30 in the morning. You bed off or what's the past tense of beat?
34:44
Drew
Done beated.
34:45
Adam
You've done beated at 8.30 in the evening. Jesus Christ, go to bed for Christ's sake. You're drunk. Now it's on. Now it's game on.
34:53
Caller
It's like a suggestion.
34:54
Third Eye Blind
I can't lie.
34:55
Adam
Every night before I go to bed, I go, no more eating, no more beating off and no more calling old girlfriends and then I do them all, and not in that order.
35:05
Caller
Drew, do you want to do it?
35:06
Adam
Do you want to go five? Marianne?
35:09
Caller
Yeah.
35:10
Adam
You're 19?
35:11
Caller
Uh-huh.
35:12
Adam
What's up?
35:13
Caller
Well, it's weird. I'm calling because I have a skin disorder and it's called lichen plantis, and I want to know what it's caused from and how I can treat it.
35:23
Drew
I'm sure you've seen a dermatologist, right?
35:25
Caller
I've seen two.
35:26
Drew
Okay, it has no known cause, which I'm sure they told you.
35:29
Adam
What is that, Drew?
35:30
Drew
It's a itchy patches and a lace-like pattern in the cheek and your mouth, a little white lace-like.
35:35
Adam
What do you mean lace?
35:36
Drew
It looks lacy. It's a white film. No, like a spiderweb almost.
35:41
Adam
Oh, that kind of lace.
35:42
Drew
And it...
35:45
Adam
I was thinking a taffeta.
35:46
Third Eye Blind
You were thinking like a French cut?
35:47
Adam
Yeah.
35:48
Drew
It's usually pretty self-limited.
35:49
Adam
Chiffon, a handful of chiffon sort of stuff.
35:51
Drew
Not too big a deal. There's some mouthwashes and some creams you can use to control it. It has no known causes. Your immune system basically attacking your body for reasons that are not known.
36:00
Caller
They told me... The first dermatologist I saw said it was caused by anxiety. And he kind of just told me to calm down and that it affects mostly type A personality people. So I don't... And then I went to another one to get a second opinion. And he...
36:16
Third Eye Blind
I asked how I could treat this stuff in my mouth.
36:18
Caller
He said he didn't know and gave me another hydrocortisone.
36:21
Drew
There are some newer washes that... But there were sort of hydrocortisone washes. And it's better if you do nothing, frankly. The anxiety thing, that must be something new. I'm not... I see you'll treat a lot of people with anxiety like in colonis and that's something I see regularly.
36:33
Third Eye Blind
What about like a nice bath in Clorox?
36:35
Adam
Yeah.
36:36
Third Eye Blind
Dr. Drew, your thoughts?
36:38
Drew
You get a burn then, we can treat that.
36:40
Adam
So you're saying if you have a condition that can't be treated, cause one that can be treated on top of it.
36:45
Drew
A severe one, yeah, that's very interesting. Yeah, then good.
36:48
Adam
There's a certain logic to that. Stephen Jenkins is here from Third Eye Blind, of course.
36:53
Third Eye Blind
Glad to be here.
36:54
Adam
Also, oh, we are glad to have him. It really makes things easier. It's like taking the show and just breaking it off into threes, like some kind of Kit Kat bar.
37:01
Third Eye Blind
I just want to do my part.
37:03
Adam
Now, you're doing your part. You're doing, you see, usually, here's how the show works. I do the guest part and Drew's part. And Drew does no part. No part. That's right. We're going to take a break. We'll be right back. Hey, everybody, it's Loveline. I'm Adam Corolla. It's Dr. Drew over there. Stephen Jenkins is here from Third Eye Blind. He's gonna be at the will turn with a bunch of his talented musical friends, like the Deftones. And who the hell else is gonna be there?
38:03
Third Eye Blind
Seal's gonna play for the first time in three years. Yeah, has just making a new album. It's really incredible.
38:08
Drew
Are you getting like the MTV's and stuff to cover this?
38:11
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, yeah, they are. It's kind of amazing because this thing started off as just, just a, we were just gonna do a small charity show and then, and then so many people have had experiences in the music community similar to my own, having a mother with breast cancer, that people all over the place got involved in it and people who you wouldn't associate with breast cancer like Third Eye Blind, you know, it's Guy Rock and hard bands like the Deaf Tones have been totally involved in it.
38:42
Drew
What is it, a third of women can expect to get breast cancer? It's a very common condition.
38:46
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, it's massive. It slaughters American women and the thing is, is that as it does this, as I've said so many times, it's not a woman's issue. It's everyone's issue because it's your family that's getting it.
38:56
Drew
My sense, although I know you said the dollars are flowing away from things like this, I believe that because of what's been happening in the world, people want to do something. And I think the reason your friends are flocking to really help is they want to do something. And this is something good that they can do and feel like they're contributing. So to that extent, I think that's where the spirit of the time is helping you.
39:15
Adam
Well, that's going on Saturday. The will turn out here in Los Angeles. Tickets probably sold out. But then again, if you show up and you go to the box office and you have enough gumption, you can probably wiggle your way in. Stacey? Yes? I don't know what that gene is. We all know the guy who can get in. What is that?
39:39
Drew
It is the not Adam, not Drew gene.
39:42
Adam
Right.
39:42
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, but I got to say, it is sold out. You can't buy tickets, but you know.
39:47
Caller
You're telling me I can't buy tickets?
39:49
Third Eye Blind
I'm telling you, you cannot buy tickets.
39:51
Caller
For what?
39:52
Adam
Stacey? All right, Stacey?
39:54
Caller
Yes.
39:54
Adam
What's your question?
39:56
Caller
Well, first I want to say I just love Third Eye Blind. I'm so stoked. I can't even believe it.
40:01
Third Eye Blind
Thanks, Stacey.
40:02
Caller
It's great that you guys are like putting out a new album, you know?
40:05
Third Eye Blind
Well, we have to record it first, but we are going to put one out in June.
40:09
Caller
Well, get in there.
40:10
Third Eye Blind
I'm going to go, girl. I'll try not to let you down.
40:13
Caller
I hope not. I look forward to being able to listen to your next album.
40:17
Third Eye Blind
Thanks so much.
40:18
Drew
What's up, Stacey?
40:18
Caller
So this is the thing. It's really weird. I've noticed some physical and mental changes ever since I turned like 29 in August. You know, and I'm just wondering, Dr. Drew, do you think it's like normal for me to suddenly want to have sex all the time and like just like some things that I used to not be able to do all of a sudden since I turned 29, I can do like I couldn't like deep throat and stuff and like all of a sudden like I can do it now.
40:45
Adam
I have that came from, I was 27 when that came around, but I guess it's in that range.
40:51
Drew
How about other than sexual, the other things in your life that you're suddenly having a lot of stamina for? Are you not sleeping so much? You're sleeping less?
41:00
Caller
Well, I guess I would say that I'm not sleeping as much since I've been watching so much porn lately, in the evening and stuff like that. I went out and got a movie card and I've been watching a lot more porn.
41:11
Drew
How many hours a night are you sleeping? How many hours a night are you sleeping?
41:15
Caller
About six now.
41:17
Adam
You think she's manic?
41:18
Drew
She's got a manic quality about her, that's for sure. I'm at pressure speech.
41:22
Adam
You lost your gag reflex on your 29th birthday?
41:27
Caller
It wasn't like I ever really had a gag reflex. It was just more like it just wouldn't go past a certain point.
41:33
Adam
Things opened up.
41:34
Caller
Yeah. It was really weird because I used to be able to do it when I was about 16. Right. When I first started having sex.
41:40
Adam
Same with me. Same with you.
41:41
Caller
Then as I got older, it went away or something. Now, all of a sudden, it's opened up again. I'm orgasming so much more and having multiple orgasms.
41:50
Adam
You know what happened with me is I could do it when I was 16, and then it went away until I was 27, but it turned out to be part of a Diablo sandwich. It was wedged in my windpipe that was blocking the penis. It wasn't the actual ability. There was actually a sandwich in there.
42:04
Third Eye Blind
Let's not discount practice.
42:05
Adam
Yeah, of course. Just hours and hours and weekends.
42:10
Caller
I didn't know you were like that. Yeah, it's true.
42:13
Adam
And so, well, I love everyone. And when you were, did you learn this when you're blowing out the candles on the cake? Or what? How did you discover this? You have a boyfriend?
42:23
Caller
Well, I broke up with my boyfriend, my ex-boyfriend in June right before, you know, and I guess it kind of started like right after I broke up with him. I was in a, you know, I was at a health institute in San Diego and I went to Tijuana and I met a guy and then I...
42:39
Third Eye Blind
Wait, wait, wait. What was the health institute? What were you doing there?
42:42
Caller
Oh, it was just like, you know, where you eat green vegetables.
42:45
Adam
Oh, crazy. Anima clinics.
42:49
Caller
Wheatgrass.
42:50
Drew
Are you, have you had your thyroid check, things like that also, just to make sure that you're not sort of spun because of that?
42:57
Caller
Yeah, you know, actually I did have some blood work done.
43:01
Adam
Hey, Stacey, Stacey, let me make this observation. You're one of these people that's just way too caught up in your own ass, right? I mean, you got a thot?
43:10
Third Eye Blind
Well, actually, it's their own throat.
43:12
Drew
Well, let's see if she's sexually abused, too.
43:13
Adam
Any sexual abuse?
43:15
Caller
No, uh-uh.
43:16
Adam
But an eating disorder, right?
43:18
Caller
No, no, uh-uh.
43:20
Adam
Well, what were you doing at the food camp, seriously?
43:22
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, just obsessed with green beans. What is it?
43:25
Adam
Any enemas going on at that camp?
43:27
Caller
Any enemas? You know, I have noticed that all of a sudden, anal sex doesn't hurt anymore either. Like, I actually enjoyed it. It was really strange. My friend's like a porn star and stuff, or she's an ex-porn star, you know, like my really close friend, one of my best friends, as a matter of fact. And I just never quite got into the whole scene. I mean, I really expected and admired what she could do.
43:47
Drew
Slow down, slow down. Why would I think she's mad? Stacey, any drugs or alcohol?
43:52
Caller
No, I have, well, I have an occasional drink and stuff.
43:55
Drew
But nothing to do with speed or anything?
43:57
Caller
No.
43:58
Adam
What do you do for a living?
44:00
Caller
I'm a waitress.
44:01
Adam
Okay.
44:02
Caller
And I go to school. I go to OCC.
44:05
Drew
Orange Coast.
44:06
Adam
She goes OCD. It's where she goes. Yeah.
44:08
Third Eye Blind
You know, I've...
44:09
Drew
ADD, I think.
44:10
I've had a really...
44:12
Third Eye Blind
I've been fortunate to live a healthy life and I've never, never had a girl who was really skilled or down with deep throating my whole life.
44:19
Adam
Wow.
44:20
Third Eye Blind
I don't really know what this is about.
44:21
Adam
Yeah. And now the anal, the whole anal avenue has opened up to everyone. Hey, Stace. All right. Here's my suggestion because we're out of time. You got, you put a lot of energy into your, what goes into your body and whether it be a penis or green vegetables. All right. Focus on your head a little bit. Yes. And none of this mystic orient BS. You need to maybe do a little therapy, slow down a little, read some books, go for some walks, talk to a therapist. You know what I'm saying? Don't get so focused on the anal and the deep throating. And when you want to fix yourself. See, here's the thing. I think a lot of people try to fix themselves by going to camp for three days.
45:05
Drew
Or what they eat or what they drink.
45:07
Adam
I drank a bunch of green tea. I got a few coffee enemas. I'm a new man. That is not only does it not work, but it's detrimental to the sense that it gets you off the trail. It's like, you're right. Well, I'm done. Yeah. And it's not about that. It's an emotional thing.
45:22
Drew
Yeah.
45:22
Adam
She needs to talk to her. We are all hearing that she's a little bit crazy.
45:25
Drew
Yeah.
45:26
Third Eye Blind
And if you just said it a little bit slower, you know, you'd have had us.
45:30
Drew
But that's manic though. That's what that is.
45:32
Adam
Yeah. Richard?
45:33
Yes.
45:34
Adam
You're 21?
45:35
Caller
Oh, yes, I am.
45:36
Drew
I don't think I can answer this in 30 seconds.
45:37
Adam
What's your problem?
45:39
Oh, I have one problem with my wife.
45:41
Adam
Uh-huh.
45:42
Caller
Yeah.
45:42
We're trying to get her pregnant about four or five months.
45:45
Caller
Uh-huh.
45:46
And she never got pregnant, but she has her period. Right.
45:49
Caller
So I was asking, too, another question.
45:52
Could you ever be pregnant when you have your period?
45:54
Drew
You can't. Yeah, you could be, but it's...
45:56
Caller
It's very rare?
45:57
Drew
It's not very rare. It usually would not be right on cycle, okay? But four months of trying to get pregnant is nothing.
46:04
Third Eye Blind
You got to try harder.
46:05
Drew
Yeah. You're just getting started.
46:06
Caller
Are there any techniques?
46:07
Drew
Go get one of those over-the-counter ovulation kits. You can tell when she's ovulated and try to hit it within 24 hours of that, and you'll be good. If you're right at this stage, you're just getting started. Just take it easy.
46:18
Caller
But she is taking a medication.
46:19
Is that effective, too?
46:20
Drew
What medicine is she taking?
46:21
She has TB.
46:23
Drew
She's taking INH? She's taking isoniazid, INH?
46:27
Yeah.
46:27
Drew
Maybe she ought to finish that out before she gets pregnant, huh?
46:30
Caller
Well, actually, she just got done with it two weeks ago.
46:33
All right.
46:33
Drew
That's fine. Then now start getting her pregnant. See, the clock's running now. Get the ovulation kit and go. Ready? Go and go.
46:41
Caller
All right.
46:41
Adam
And hump, Richard.
46:42
Caller
Yeah, hump a lot.
46:43
Adam
Yeah, hump a lot.
46:45
Drew
No, no.
46:46
Adam
Humpy, humpy.
46:46
Drew
Humpy, humpy. Hold out for about a week before you get to that ovulation point and then humpy, humpy for 24 hours.
46:52
Adam
All right, Drew. Are you making fun of his nationality?
46:54
Drew
No, I'm making fun of you.
46:55
Adam
Oh, okay. We'll take a little break. Adam, that's Drew. Stephen is here from Third Eye Blind. And we'll be back with Drew. Who are we going to talk to when we come back?
47:04
Drew
Oh, this is the one we need to...
47:08
Adam
Tom? Tom is a 25-year-old friend. Does not have...
47:11
Drew
No friend. We don't do friend things.
47:13
Adam
All right. We'll be back with a great call.
47:16
Third Eye Blind
Did you hear that, everyone? We don't do friends.
47:18
Adam
After this.
47:19
Here it is.
47:19
Adam
Bottom line, it sucks being single today.
47:22
Tons of lame people and no decent prospects.
47:24
Third Eye Blind
Call the Dateline.
47:25
Call the Dateline. Call the Dateline.
47:27
1-877-889-DATE. Love line will be right back. So get your problems ready. Ready.
48:42
Adam
I'm Adam Corolla, that is Dr. Drew over there.
48:45
Third Eye Blind
That was a jam.
48:46
Adam
Our good friend Stephen Jenkins is here from Third Eye Blind. And this system of a down. I was going to sing backup for the band. Well, we love system of a down, but we were behind them at a concert, and that's all we could hear, right?
49:06
Third Eye Blind
For two hours?
49:07
Drew
That's a kind rendition of what we heard.
49:10
Adam
Well, because when you're behind the band, it's probably best to be in front of the band. We were, what, signing calendars?
49:17
Drew
Yes, a couple of years ago.
49:19
Adam
Oh, we're going to get roped into that soon this year, too.
49:22
Third Eye Blind
Signing calendars?
49:23
Adam
Yeah. Here's just a, I'd like to make a quick request to the mothership station out here, K-Rock, the birthplace of Loveline. All the DJs live in sort of the Los Angeles area, mostly the Valley, Sherman Oaks, Pasadena, that area, Toluca Lake. Make sure that you have it as far, far away as possible, like you do, somewhere deep in Orange County like you do.
49:51
Third Eye Blind
You're talking about the Weenie Rose?
49:52
Adam
No, not the Weenie Rose, it's the calendar signing thing. It's like, where are we having it? Well, it's in the Inland Empire, like they always do it.
50:01
Drew
Oh my God. Wait a minute.
50:03
Adam
No. Where is it?
50:04
Drew
No, just think, we were spared taking pictures this year.
50:08
Adam
We were?
50:09
Drew
We didn't have to get pictures taken.
50:10
Adam
We're not in the calendar.
50:12
Drew
No, no, no. Well, maybe they used it.
50:14
Third Eye Blind
You guys aren't getting any prettier.
50:15
Adam
Yeah, that's true. They should use it.
50:17
Third Eye Blind
You can't compete with Ms.Toolset2002. That's nice.
50:21
Adam
No, no lightning, right? Elaine?
50:26
Yeah?
50:26
Adam
What's up, Toadz?
50:28
I first wanted to say that I totally love Third Eye Blind.
50:31
Third Eye Blind
Thanks, Elaine.
50:33
I also think that it's really cool what you're doing for the breast cancer thing and stuff.
50:36
Third Eye Blind
Thank you. You know what else? I have a friend, she's got a fever tonight, so I want to send a shout out to little Miss Bean. But thanks for your praise. Thanks a lot.
50:45
Drew
It's scary now. Every time somebody gets a fever, it's okay. Should we test for an anus or not?
50:51
Yeah, my question is, okay, I'm not lesbian or anything, and I don't think of myself as bisexual. If there's a girl and she's pretty, and she's, I guess, built, and basically what most guys look for in a girl, it's attractive to me.
51:08
Drew
You're lesbian. No.
51:09
Adam
For a place.
51:10
Drew
No, no. Yeah.
51:12
Third Eye Blind
That's good for you. I mean, come on.
51:14
Drew
That's a common experience, I think.
51:15
No, because I've never been with a girl. I mean, I like guys. I mean, I've always been with guys.
51:19
Drew
I think, though, for many women, female sexuality is sexuality. It sort of makes you think sort of.
51:25
Adam
It's universal sexuality.
51:27
Third Eye Blind
God bless them all. Yeah, that's good. What's the problem?
51:30
Well, I mean, I don't think of myself as bisexual or lesbian.
51:35
Drew
You're lesbian. No, none of that is suggested by what you're saying.
51:39
I mean, is that normal?
51:40
Adam
I heard Drew say you're a lesbian.
51:42
Drew
It has nothing to do with your sexual choices or preferences with partners.
51:47
Adam
Hold on. I'm confused. Once and for all, Drew, is she a lesbian or not?
51:53
Maybe this will change it. I've kissed some girls before.
51:55
Drew
You're a lesbian.
51:56
Adam
Yeah, thanks, Anderson. You're so fast with those fingers.
52:00
Drew
She has, however, sweetened the pot a little bit. She's kissed some girls.
52:04
Adam
Oh, really?
52:04
Yeah, that's about it. Bisexual.
52:08
Third Eye Blind
It's Elaine, right? That's her name?
52:09
Yeah.
52:10
Third Eye Blind
Okay, Elaine, here's the thing. We live in this really, really messed up puritanical society, and we think that this is the norm and it's really not. Fact is that, once again, I said 50 years you're going to be in a box for the rest of eternity. So if you feel it, it's healthy and you're thinking clearly, then it's all good. So of course, you think girls are beautiful. They're round and curvy and soft, and every magazine you look at, girls are obsessed with girls. I mean, it's like every magazine that girls look at, all they do is look at themselves, and all we do is look at them and lesbians. So of course.
52:43
Adam
Thank you.
52:44
Drew
So yeah, Elaine, you're just-
52:45
Adam
You're fine, man.
52:46
Drew
But Elaine, just one way of clarifying this though, again, you're sort of putting it in normal and abnormal terms, which is not a right way to think about this, but to one of the ways we use to determine whether when someone's having confusion about their sexual orientation is by looking at- But hang on.
52:59
Adam
Shut up.
53:00
Drew
Is by looking at their history. If you were sexually abused when you were young, that can lead to a lot of confusion about your sexual orientation. Were you?
53:07
Caller
No.
53:08
Drew
Then just forget it.
53:09
Adam
Do you ever masturbate to women?
53:11
Caller
No.
53:12
Adam
Well, you should.
53:14
Drew
She doesn't masturbate, period.
53:15
Adam
Oh, you don't do it?
53:15
Drew
No. I know he doesn't re-register on the scale for you.
53:19
Adam
Hey, Elaine, we got nothing to talk about.
53:22
I know that's probably just on your bad list.
53:25
Third Eye Blind
You're a wealthy American girl. Just be proud of it. Just freak freely.
53:28
Adam
Enough said. She doesn't masturbate. But don't you believe, I mean, if you're a lesbian, you will start fantasizing about women whether you're with them or not. Your fantasies will go down that road. And she's not doing that. She's kissed a few weeks.
53:46
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, but I think you guys are right in the beginning that girls, their sexuality is just much more mercurial.
53:53
Drew
Fluid, yeah, absolutely.
53:54
Adam
Yeah, and that's what it is.
53:57
Third Eye Blind
Men are obsessed with them.
53:58
Drew
Men are one way or the other. And the really fascinating thing is that a heterosexual male cannot conceive of gay sex. It's like hard for a heterosexual male to go there.
54:08
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, but Adam likes a good rounded boxing.
54:11
Drew
Yeah. That's his version of a gay male sex.
54:15
Adam
Here's what women do and what guys would never do. And here's what we always joke about on this show, which is a lot of women go, look, I'm totally straight. I have a boyfriend. I'm heterosexual. But there's a girlfriend of mine, Kim, who's totally hot. And if and I would do it with her and and you hear that a lot. But there's no male in the world who says like, I'm a totally straight guy. I love chicks. But Stu, Stu, Stu's hot. Stu I would blow. But nobody else just Stu because, you know, we both first off, we're both Raiders fans. So we got that. You know, there's no such thing as that dude who's got a Camaro.
54:54
Third Eye Blind
I got a Camaro.
54:54
Adam
He's Iraq. I'm Iraq. We're totally simpatico.
55:01
Third Eye Blind
So we wrestled.
55:02
Adam
We were men.
55:02
Third Eye Blind
We wrestled.
55:03
Adam
He's a thick crust guy. I'm a thick crust guy. He likes the cheese stuffed into not only the crust, but filled the pepperoni where they inject cheese into the pepperoni.
55:14
Third Eye Blind
Actually, most girls who aren't by make me a little nervous, make me think they're probably a little uptight.
55:22
Adam
Most women, if you stop them, would name a woman they would do it with, whether she's on TV or whether they work with her, or whether it's just somebody, a friend of theirs. Most women have that one woman that they would probably get it on with.
55:35
Third Eye Blind
Well, everybody would do Britney.
55:37
Adam
I mean. Right.
55:38
Third Eye Blind
Right.
55:38
Adam
Right. But no guy who's straight has that one guy. And that's what I'm saying. Although for me.
55:45
Drew
It makes you laugh. Just thinking about it.
55:46
Adam
For me, it's Drew.
55:48
Drew
Thank you.
55:48
Adam
Thanks. Kim?
55:49
Yeah.
55:50
Adam
What's up?
55:51
Um, well, my best friend went to jail, I guess. I haven't heard from her for two months.
55:57
Drew
Wait a minute. How old is she?
55:59
She's 15.
56:01
Drew
And what makes you think she went to jail?
56:02
Well, she just, well, I haven't heard from her for two, three months.
56:05
Drew
And they haven't heard from someone. That's not the usual thing you include.
56:09
Third Eye Blind
Unless it's Adam.
56:10
Drew
Adam, of course. But you worry about them having gone away or moved out or harm come to them. But go to jail, so down the list somewhere.
56:18
Yeah.
56:18
Third Eye Blind
Why do you think she's in jail?
56:19
Well, she wrote me a letter after from jail. The time I haven't seen her and I tried to get away from her and everything because I went through recovery and I had been cleaning two and a half months because I didn't want to be around that situation anymore.
56:35
Adam
What did the letter say, though?
56:38
Hold on. I'll grab it.
56:39
Adam
Oh, okay. I didn't need it for random.
56:41
Third Eye Blind
We'll just paraphrase it. Did it say I'm in jail?
56:44
Basically, it says that she wants my help and that she's in jail for a robbery.
56:49
Adam
Okay. Well, there you go. So you got that letter saying she was in jail. That's what clued you into her being in the jail?
56:54
Yeah.
56:55
Adam
I see. Okay.
56:56
Drew
Well, that clears the fog. No, I'm still confused. Where could she be?
57:00
Adam
I don't know.
57:01
Third Eye Blind
Maybe county.
57:02
Adam
I think she's in jail.
57:03
Drew
No, she's on a trip in Europe. I'm sure of it.
57:07
Adam
Go ahead and just bring that up at the top about the letter that she sent from prison.
57:11
I don't know. I'm just kind of worried about her because I don't and I'm worried about myself because I don't want to get back into the situation because I've tried to help her so much.
57:19
Adam
When is she getting out?
57:21
She doesn't know. Her trial, I guess, is like on the 26th.
57:24
Drew
Kim, here's what you got to do. Here's what you got to do because your life depends on your recovery. You send her a letter of support, tell her what you think works, like sit down and shut up and go to meetings. Yeah, and that right now you got to focus on your recovery. Here's, here's, give her some instruction. Go to meetings, get a sponsor, shut up, sit down and it works and I'll see you in six months.
57:46
Caller
Yeah, I've told her like-
57:47
Drew
That's it, that's it. And just, just that's it. Now you stay focused on your recovery, okay?
57:51
Caller
Okay, thank you. Oh, and I have to say something. You guys are awesome. Oh, thanks. Stephen, I'm so in love with you. I have like, my whole room is covered with Third Eye Blind stuff. So-
58:01
Third Eye Blind
Are any of them on the ceiling?
58:03
Caller
Yeah.
58:04
Adam
Not pictures, just stuff she stole.
58:08
Third Eye Blind
You cannot let people subvert your will. That's the most important thing. You understand what I'm saying?
58:13
Caller
Yeah.
58:14
Adam
Hey, Kim? Yeah. Let me say this and I'll add to that. You got a lot of energy and you lean toward chaos and you go round and round and round.
58:25
Drew
Well, she wants to cure.
58:27
Adam
Yeah. Short and sweet. Write her a letter, like what Drew said, and then you move on. That's it. Don't get caught up into this back and forth, sort of retarded badminton game you play with her.
58:38
Caller
Yeah. But it's hard for me to get rid of that.
58:40
Drew
That. There you go. That's it.
58:44
Adam
Just lay it out and move on.
58:46
Caller
I will.
58:47
Adam
I know. What is that thing with people? It's like that tooth that hurts that you have to keep playing, if you keep flicking it with your tongue.
58:53
Drew
I know. I think if we were from Mars, it would look different to us. We were observing the behavior. We were like, what's up with that one?
58:59
Adam
Yeah. You have to keep going around and around in this sort of chaotic dance. I know everybody has this.
59:05
Third Eye Blind
I get all my songs from that too.
59:07
Adam
That's true. It is where all that sort of creative energy is spawned. But you have it more at 15, thankfully, than you do a 25.
59:16
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. She's not listening either. She's going to stay right in that one.
59:20
Adam
Yes.
59:20
Drew
No, she's two months in a surprise. She's about on course. No. If she stays sober, she'll get better.
59:26
Adam
She's...
59:27
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, if she stays sober.
59:28
Adam
I agree with you.
59:28
Third Eye Blind
Well, good luck.
59:29
Adam
Jason?
59:30
Drew
Yes.
59:30
Adam
You're 22?
59:32
Caller
Oh, hi. I'm in Tempe, Arizona and I have a severely shrunken testicle.
59:37
Drew
Severely?
59:37
Adam
Maybe your penis is just huge.
59:39
Caller
Oh, wow. I used to have a pretty large testicles and within the last couple months, the one I've just noticed has been shrinking severely.
59:49
Drew
Has it been sort of pulling up inside or...?
59:51
Caller
Yes, it's actually pulling up inside, it seems like.
59:54
Adam
Is it the ball itself is shrunk?
59:56
Caller
Yes.
59:58
Caller
Something's wrong with his testicle?
1:00:00
Adam
It went from like candy Easter egg size to what size?
1:00:04
Caller
To about half that size.
1:00:06
Drew
And the other side is the same?
1:00:08
Third Eye Blind
So that's like a Hershey's Kiss.
1:00:10
Caller
A little larger.
1:00:11
Adam
Right. A little larger than the other one? I'm getting hungry.
1:00:16
Caller
It's a little larger than the Hershey's Kiss.
1:00:18
Drew
I got it from chocolate.
1:00:20
Third Eye Blind
Drew, what do you do for a shrunken testicle?
1:00:22
Drew
Well, it's kind of peculiar.
1:00:24
Adam
I've never heard that.
1:00:25
Drew
Are you sure it's not the other one getting bigger?
1:00:27
Caller
No, actually it's not.
1:00:28
Drew
Okay.
1:00:29
Caller
And in the last like five days since I've really noticed it, I've experienced some discomfort with it, but I think it might be psychosomatic.
1:00:38
Drew
Well, you got to get this checked out. There could be something maybe. Has it ever gone through a period where it really hurt? Have you ever injured it, anything like that?
1:00:44
Caller
No. It's just completely unexpected.
1:00:47
Drew
And definitely you could feel a testy in the sack your whole life.
1:00:50
Caller
Oh, yeah.
1:00:52
Drew
Wow, that's very interesting.
1:00:53
Third Eye Blind
Can I just suggest that when something changes in your...
1:00:56
Drew
You get it checked out.
1:00:57
Third Eye Blind
Ball sack, you just run, don't walk.
1:00:59
Caller
Absolutely.
1:01:00
Third Eye Blind
To your nearest medicine man.
1:01:02
Drew
They can do an ultrasound and we'll look in there and see what's going on. Sometimes the blood supply can be affected. Sometimes you get hernias and things that kind of tie it up and pull it back up inside. There are things that can happen.
1:01:12
Adam
I just thought about it actually shrinking. You don't believe them.
1:01:16
Caller
What could ever be restored to its normal size?
1:01:18
Drew
You need a diagnosis, Jason, before we can even begin to speculate. So I don't know what's going on there right now.
1:01:25
Third Eye Blind
But you got to believe too.
1:01:26
Drew
I do. Let's put it this way. The things we worry about, Jason, in the testes are the things that grow, not the things that shrink.
1:01:33
Caller
So I was reading on the Internet about that and I said, I was reading about torsions and things like that.
1:01:38
Drew
Yeah. Well, torsions, this could be some kind of chronic torsion. Maybe that's why it's shrinking. But be that as it may, it's stuff that really is an issue. You can do fine with one test if that's what's been happening. The things that are going to harm you are the things that are growing.
1:01:49
Third Eye Blind
But once again, you got to believe. Yeah, your balls will swing.
1:01:52
Caller
I've got faith, brother.
1:01:54
Drew
Jason, thank you.
1:01:54
Adam
Yeah, as a matter of fact, you start closing your eyes and picturing your balls swinging like a giant pendulum. It actually helps, they say. And also if people pray for your balls, even people that don't know you. Always like when they make that stipulation when they're talking about prayer and healing, even people that don't know the person. Well, how do they know to pray for the person if they don't know them?
1:02:17
Drew
I don't know. They've done these weird studies where it shows that the people that are being prayed for do better.
1:02:23
Third Eye Blind
They do?
1:02:23
Adam
Yeah, they do.
1:02:24
Third Eye Blind
Really?
1:02:24
Drew
Yeah, the studies are out there. Now, they think, though, they may just be statistical aberrations. They're not large enough studies, but they're out there.
1:02:30
Adam
Yeah, I always hear that all the time. And you figure, well, it couldn't hurt. But then you figure there's a rational side that goes, oh, screw it.
1:02:38
Third Eye Blind
I pray for people all the time.
1:02:40
Adam
Do you?
1:02:40
Third Eye Blind
I do, yeah.
1:02:41
Adam
Like how? I mean, well, I don't know what I mean. I mean, who do you decide to pray for? Like your mom, who had breast cancer? Would you pray for her?
1:02:51
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, I pretty much, I pray for everybody I love, even when it's hard. And the thing is, I don't really believe in God, but I totally believe in praying. So I sort of invent God and then pray and move on.
1:03:05
Adam
You mean like out of paper mache or just in your mind?
1:03:09
Third Eye Blind
No, paper mache.
1:03:12
Adam
Like a pinata god.
1:03:12
Third Eye Blind
And I just catch whatever I've got.
1:03:14
Adam
Hold on, there's no pinata god, is there?
1:03:16
Drew
It's a calf made of gold.
1:03:17
Adam
Pinata Jesus, that wouldn't be good to beat it with a stick.
1:03:20
Third Eye Blind
No, but from flying, I got into praying, and then just kept going with it. And yeah, praying's good.
1:03:26
Adam
Well, I do believe, like I once had this chick named Jung Hee Lee.
1:03:33
Jung Hee.
1:03:35
Adam
Yeah, Jung Hee was trying to convert me to Buddhism, you know. And she was like, oh, this Buddhism works, man. And she dragged me down to this meeting. Was I an idiot? She dragged me down to this big meeting. I was the only round eye in the entire place. I was the tallest guy there, though. It was great. I felt like Shaq, you know. And we went to the Buddhist. We went to this big meeting, and they were going, listen, man, you chant on something, you get it. And people were like, stand up and go, and it wasn't about world peace. It was like, hey, I chanted on a 19-inch color television with a remote, an AMF antenna and everything, and I got it 10 days later. And it's like, of course, if I sat down every night and for 20 minutes focused on getting a TV set and just chanted, NOM, YORHON, RENGE, ZENITH, you know, and just pounded it into my brain, of course, I would be more...
1:04:29
Third Eye Blind
That's obsessive behavior.
1:04:30
Adam
Yeah, I would be more apt to go... I would be more apt to go get the TV set. I mean, obviously, it would make those goals easier. It's a good... So it's kind of a way of taking a religion that's not really a science and turning it into a goal thing.
1:04:47
Drew
A practical matter.
1:04:48
Adam
Yeah, it's a practical matter. Yeah. But I don't know how that works with praying for parents or for people in hospitals or people you don't know. But I just know...
1:04:57
Drew
It is good to transcend the self.
1:04:59
Third Eye Blind
Right. That's basically what it is.
1:05:01
Drew
Yeah.
1:05:01
Third Eye Blind
Just get out there and send some hope to the Void.
1:05:04
Adam
Yeah. Emily?
1:05:06
Caller
Hey.
1:05:06
Adam
Hey, what's up?
1:05:07
Caller
Hey, Stephen, Third Eye Blind is like my favorite band.
1:05:09
Third Eye Blind
Oh, Emily, thank you. Thanks so much.
1:05:12
Adam
Hope to the Void would be a pretty good album name, too.
1:05:14
Third Eye Blind
Hope to the Void. What do you think of that as an album title?
1:05:16
Caller
Oh, that sounds good.
1:05:18
Drew
Send Hope to the Void.
1:05:19
Caller
I'm going to see you guys on Saturday.
1:05:21
Third Eye Blind
Good for you.
1:05:22
Caller
And I know you guys are doing collaborations with other artists. Uh-huh. And are you going to play like your own stuff, too, or?
1:05:29
Third Eye Blind
Yeah.
1:05:29
Caller
Oh, good.
1:05:29
Third Eye Blind
You want to make a request?
1:05:31
Caller
Yeah.
1:05:31
Caller
Okay, what?
1:05:32
Caller
Can you play Gorgeous?
1:05:34
Caller
Your demo?
1:05:35
Caller
Ooh, wow.
1:05:37
Caller
Okay, can you play Background?
1:05:38
Third Eye Blind
Background? Okay, I'll try and play. Oh, we'll try to play Background, yeah.
1:05:42
Drew
Why not Gorgeous?
1:05:43
Third Eye Blind
I'll just have him play it in so long. Yeah, but yeah, you're a hardcore fan.
1:05:49
Adam
Hey, you coming out here from Sacramento, Emily?
1:05:51
Caller
Yeah, all the way. Six hour drive.
1:05:54
Third Eye Blind
Emily shelled out a lot of money for those tickets because this is a benefit and they weren't cheap, so it's going to go to a good cause. It's going to go to Step Up Women's Network, which I've been producing the show with, and the money is going to go to the UCLA Breast Cancer Center and also the Kettering Center in Harlem, which gives breast cancer treatment to underprivileged women in that area. So, you're doing a good thing as well. I'm so glad you're making the trip.
1:06:23
Adam
Who bought you those tickets?
1:06:25
Caller
My dad. Can I ask you something? You know how it moved from Greek theater to the other place? Yeah. Wilton. I think they charged us double for that.
1:06:35
Third Eye Blind
Really? I don't think so.
1:06:36
Caller
$500.
1:06:38
Third Eye Blind
No, they're not.
1:06:38
Adam
You're paying or you're hard-working P. Whip dad is paying.
1:06:42
Third Eye Blind
You go up to the gate and you say, Check it out, buddy. You work for me. Here's my ticket and I want you to take me to my seat.
1:06:49
Adam
Is your dad driving you out there? Yes.
1:06:52
Caller
We're renting a car and driving around.
1:06:53
Adam
From Sacramento. I'm going to kick my dad right in the nuts when I see it.
1:06:58
Drew
They don't have a car.
1:06:59
Adam
If I told my dad when I was 14, hey, we got these $500 tickets for UFO. I'm going to pick a band when I was 14.
1:07:10
Third Eye Blind
That's out London.
1:07:12
Adam
You got to drive me out to Sacramento. He would still be laughing today. If I showed up at his house for dinner for Thanksgiving at 37, he would still be laughing.
1:07:25
Third Eye Blind
There's fans out there. Oh my god, these parents. If the Beatles reformed, I wouldn't drive from Sacramento. I mean, the fans are fans. It's a real culture.
1:07:38
Adam
Like I said, I don't want to take anything away from Emily who was 14 and loves Third Eye Blind, but man, her dad. What a guy, too. He's probably a fan too or there's no way he'd make this track, but that's pretty cool.
1:07:53
Third Eye Blind
The parents, those guys are the rock fans. Those are the ones that came up with Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stone.
1:07:58
Adam
Well, that's true. Let's talk to Jeremy.
1:08:04
Caller
Yeah.
1:08:04
Adam
24?
1:08:05
Caller
Yes.
1:08:05
Adam
Anally raped by stepbrother?
1:08:07
Caller
Correct.
1:08:08
Adam
Perfectly healthy, perfectly normal.
1:08:11
Caller
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
1:08:12
Drew
Good times.
1:08:14
Caller
I was just curious. That happened a long time ago when I was like 8 and I'm 24 now. But I've been noticing lately I've been craving and kind of getting into anal sex with girls. Like, I had a nice girlfriend that I did it quite a bit with, but even now that I'm sexually active with other people, I'm kind of into it and it kind of excites me and ruins my stentema and everything. I get overexcited and I have like, you know, like pre-
1:08:42
Adam
Ejaculation. We blow it. All right. Hold on a second, Jeremy.
1:08:45
Caller
Yeah.
1:08:46
Adam
Because we're going to, and don't, you know, don't bust a nut while we're taking a commercial here.
1:08:50
Caller
No problem.
1:08:51
Adam
All right. Because we got to take ourselves a break. This is interesting.
1:08:55
Drew
I like the way Jeremy is approaching. He's like a scientist looking at himself.
1:08:58
Adam
Yeah, like a scientist that studies anal rape.
1:09:02
Drew
Suddenly I have a desire for anal sex.
1:09:04
Adam
He's at the crap center for anal rape. All right. Stephen Jenkins is here from Third Eye Blind. We'll take a little break and we'll get back with Jeremy and his anus after this.
1:09:15
Adam and Dr. Drew will be right back on Loveline.
1:09:44
Caller
What's up? This is Chino and Stephen from Deftones, and you're listening to Loveline with Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew.
1:09:51
Caller
Ha ha ha!
1:09:54
Adam
Well, there you have it. Love those guys. One of the acts on the bill, Saturday Night. Saturday Night at the Will-Turn, along with Third Eye Blind and many, many other big bands, all for a good cause, breast cancer. Stephen Jenkins is our guest tonight from Third Eye Blind, of course. When we left off, we were speaking to Jeremy, whose stepbrother raped him anally when you were how old?
1:10:21
Caller
Eight.
1:10:22
Adam
How old was he?
1:10:24
Caller
He was like fourteen.
1:10:26
Adam
There's a troubled kid. What's he up to today?
1:10:30
Caller
I think he currently has something, whatever it's called, my other sister has a thing against him where he can't be in the same room by himself with them so I think there's still stuff going on in his life where he's still doing stuff like that.
1:10:46
Drew
But what's he doing for a living?
1:10:48
Caller
Right now he does nothing.
1:10:50
Drew
Okay.
1:10:51
Third Eye Blind
Have you gotten therapy over this?
1:10:53
Caller
Yeah, quite a bit actually. I've been seeking counselors since I was fourteen myself. That's when I finally came out about it and I've also been doing some rehab centers lately too.
1:11:03
Third Eye Blind
Well, good for you for coming out about it. I think that's really great.
1:11:06
Drew
Rehab for chemical dependency?
1:11:08
Caller
Yeah.
1:11:08
Drew
You're an addict. Well, it's interesting that what all that therapy I suspect would have been focused on was teaching you to deal with the post-traumatic stress phenomena that come out of something like that. You're regulating your feelings. But what it doesn't do is sort of undo the wiring that gets sort of etched in as a result of that highly arousing experience in childhood.
1:11:30
Adam
Although at eight the wiring is almost, the loom is almost completed.
1:11:34
Drew
It's getting there.
1:11:35
Adam
The harness is almost completed.
1:11:37
Drew
It's better. The kinds of phenomena are not as profound as if it happens early on.
1:11:41
Third Eye Blind
You can still get pretty messed up.
1:11:42
Drew
Oh, no.
1:11:43
Adam
You can get inally raped at eight.
1:11:44
Drew
No, no, no, no.
1:11:46
Adam
Jeremy's a mess. He'll always be a mess. But I agree with Stephen. But what I'm saying is even still, as bad as this is, Jeremy, better at eight than at four.
1:11:55
Drew
That's six or four. Yeah.
1:11:56
Adam
Yeah.
1:11:57
Drew
And be as it may, the fact is that you can now sit back sort of dispassionately and look at this and go, jeez, I'm getting these desires, these arousing experiences. And yet you're managing it, which is the difference. So therapy gives you an opportunity to sort of be able to tolerate your feelings.
1:12:09
Caller
And I think a lot of guys are, you know, crave themselves that they even haven't experienced this. I mean, you know, anal does something that excites guys in general. Oh, yeah.
1:12:21
Third Eye Blind
Come on. Actually, the forbidden is always, you know, of interest.
1:12:26
Drew
I'm glad you said that because I don't get that. No, I don't.
1:12:28
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, but you're a robot.
1:12:31
Adam
But he gives it, right?
1:12:32
Drew
I beg your pardon.
1:12:36
Adam
Oh, I see.
1:12:36
Third Eye Blind
But here's the problem. You see, you're talking about this and you're saying that this is, you're kind of obsessed with this.
1:12:43
Drew
He's so aroused by it, he put it through a jacket.
1:12:45
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, so it's messing you up. So it's not for you.
1:12:49
Caller
Yeah.
1:12:49
Third Eye Blind
You see, because it's, what it's doing here is it's busting up your hustle, if you understand what I'm saying. And you don't want that.
1:12:58
Caller
No, I don't want that.
1:12:58
Third Eye Blind
No.
1:12:59
Adam
Hey, Jeremy.
1:13:00
Caller
Yeah.
1:13:01
Adam
Though it is, I mean, a lot of guys have this with women. So for you, it's like, well, is this because of your past? Or is this something you'd be into anyway?
1:13:09
Caller
That's what I'm wondering. Yeah, is it because it's just the forbidden, you know, everything?
1:13:13
Adam
There's elements of that, but there's probably too much energy behind it for you.
1:13:17
Third Eye Blind
Exactly.
1:13:18
Adam
And that probably means it's a remnant of the past.
1:13:21
Caller
OK.
1:13:21
Adam
So it's not something I think you have to promise never to do again. It's just something you have to keep an eye on.
1:13:28
Third Eye Blind
You know what? I think you already have this figured out. You know that this is somehow connected to something that's kind of twisted up. It's a normal desire, but for you it's not.
1:13:38
Drew
But help me understand what the desire is with animals. Is it an aggressive thing?
1:13:42
Adam
Well, you're trying to put your penis in someone's hand. It's fun.
1:13:45
Drew
I get that. It's fun. But what is it? What's the feeling behind it? Is it aggression? Or is it smelly? Is it an aggressive thing?
1:13:51
Adam
No, it's...
1:13:52
Caller
Well, what it is...
1:13:53
Third Eye Blind
Come on, Drew.
1:13:54
Drew
Come on. I'm curious.
1:13:57
Third Eye Blind
You are a Cub Scout.
1:13:58
Drew
No, I'm not. Is it... Well, I think sometimes, guys, we have a desire to sort of like... We were talking about earlier...
1:14:04
Adam
It's a conquer.
1:14:05
Drew
You want to almost hurt someone with your penis. That's almost so... No.
1:14:09
Third Eye Blind
No.
1:14:09
Drew
That's not what it is.
1:14:10
Third Eye Blind
No.
1:14:10
Drew
No.
1:14:11
Adam
Mine's sharp enough to take an eye out.
1:14:13
Drew
Yeah, but it's more like a pin, though, so it would like to chop something.
1:14:16
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. You know, JFK once said, one of the world's greatest Flanders, said, I never feel like I've totally had a woman until I've had her all three ways.
1:14:27
Drew
He said this?
1:14:28
Third Eye Blind
Count him.
1:14:29
Adam
Yeah.
1:14:29
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, he said it.
1:14:30
Adam
That was in the Nixon debate in the 64th, 62nd.
1:14:35
Third Eye Blind
He was wearing makeup at that thing too.
1:14:37
Adam
That's when Nixon started sweating on the upper left when he told the anal rape story. JD. Salinger I think wrote that for him.
1:14:45
Drew
All three ways.
1:14:46
Adam
Salinger But no, no, here, yeah, I agree. Well, look, here's the deal. There's three schools of anal camp.
1:14:53
Drew
Three.
1:14:53
Adam
Yeah. Which, by the way, is something I'm thinking about starting, a summer anal camp.
1:14:58
Drew
Why limit to summer? Year-round anal camp.
1:15:01
Adam
It's hard to do anal when it's snowing, especially outdoors.
1:15:04
Drew
Anal ski camp.
1:15:05
Adam
Okay. Snowboarding. Salinger Some guys are into it because it just plain feels good. There's just a sensation. It's a snugger fit and they like that. That's one group. Then there's a group that's into a little bit of, show me you love me. I mean, who's in control here?
1:15:22
Drew
That's power, power thing.
1:15:24
Adam
Yeah.
1:15:25
Third Eye Blind
And that's bad.
1:15:25
Drew
That's aggression. That's a little power. That's where I think where most of it is, I think.
1:15:29
Adam
Well, but then there's a sub camp of the aggression camp, which is the just flat out aggression, like I want to hurt you.
1:15:37
Drew
Yeah.
1:15:38
Adam
There's a sort of subservient camp, and then there's the, I'm going to hurt you camp. You know, like here's how I know I'm totally, that you're totally in love with me and that I'm totally in charge in this relationship.
1:15:50
Drew
One's a control thing, one's a harm.
1:15:52
Adam
As I've said many times, when your penis is in someone's ass, the answer to every question is yes.
1:15:57
Drew
Okay.
1:15:57
Third Eye Blind
But we are a nation of broods here. And the thing is-
1:16:02
Adam
A good album name by the way.
1:16:03
Third Eye Blind
Nation of Broods. What was the other one? Hope into the Void or-
1:16:07
Adam
Three inputs.
1:16:08
Third Eye Blind
Hope into the Void. This is still Germaine, isn't it?
1:16:11
Adam
Right.
1:16:12
Third Eye Blind
Look, we are a nation of total broods. We're puritanical. And the fact is that consenting adults who understand what they're about and what they want, get together and do naughty, wrong things. Right.
1:16:28
Drew
I'm all for it.
1:16:29
Adam
Right, Drew, please. Absolutely. Let him finish.
1:16:31
Caller
Yeah.
1:16:32
Third Eye Blind
You know, go do it.
1:16:33
Adam
That's the other thing.
1:16:35
Third Eye Blind
And don't let people judge you, you know? I mean, because you've got the Taliban is going to like dress us all up in smocks. So let's by all means be a nation of freaks, as long as we're healthy, clear-thinking freaks.
1:16:47
Adam
I know. And what a country. Anal sex and kicking your country's ass. You know what I mean? Anal sex and a military?
1:16:54
Third Eye Blind
We got it all.
1:16:54
Adam
That's pretty good. That'd be my slogan for the country.
1:16:58
Drew
Somehow they go together.
1:16:59
Adam
Put that right on the Canadian-Mexican border.
1:17:01
Third Eye Blind
No te cheeky monkey.
1:17:02
Adam
Anal sex and a military. USA. We got it all. Chris?
1:17:08
Caller
Yeah.
1:17:09
Adam
You're 28?
1:17:10
Caller
Yes, sir.
1:17:11
Adam
What's up?
1:17:12
Caller
I have a problem with when I'm having sex of I guess rising to the occasion. Uh-huh.
1:17:20
Drew
Have you always had that problem?
1:17:21
Caller
Yes.
1:17:22
Drew
Always?
1:17:23
Caller
Yes.
1:17:23
Drew
All right. Well?
1:17:24
Caller
My first time was when I was 21 and I couldn't do anything.
1:17:28
Drew
Are you on any medication?
1:17:29
Caller
No.
1:17:30
Adam
Why 21? That's sort of a late bloomer.
1:17:35
Caller
I'm kind of a shy guy.
1:17:36
Adam
That's what I was thinking. I mean, maybe he's a little pent up. Yeah. A little uptight.
1:17:41
Drew
You have no medical problems? No. Are you overweight?
1:17:45
Caller
Maybe a little, but you know.
1:17:46
Drew
Not usually, no.
1:17:47
Caller
No. I'm like 250 and I'm over, I'm almost.
1:17:50
Adam
He's almost 55, so.
1:17:53
Caller
Well, see, the problem is, my girlfriend now, she was going down on me and I couldn't go up.
1:18:00
Adam
Yeah. But this is something that you've always had, right?
1:18:03
Caller
Yeah.
1:18:04
Adam
So maybe you should get checked out by a doctor.
1:18:06
Third Eye Blind
Well, I mean, do you get, do you wake up with what? Do you get erections in the morning, that kind of thing?
1:18:13
Caller
Oh yeah, I do.
1:18:14
Third Eye Blind
So it's just when you're with somebody else?
1:18:15
Caller
I mean, it's just when I'm with a woman.
1:18:19
Adam
Do you masturbate?
1:18:20
Drew
You're gay.
1:18:21
Adam
True, please. Do you masturbate?
1:18:22
Caller
Yes, I do.
1:18:23
Adam
How often?
1:18:27
Caller
Maybe once a night, but when I have a girlfriend, I don't do it.
1:18:31
Adam
I see. And it works, you have a good erection when you masturbate. And you have a good one in the morning.
1:18:38
Caller
Well, not all the time.
1:18:39
Drew
But you do often.
1:18:40
Adam
So this is a psychological thing.
1:18:42
Third Eye Blind
Yeah, this is about you feeling good about yourself.
1:18:44
Drew
Not being anxious.
1:18:44
Third Eye Blind
That's what it's about. You are a hurricane. Listen to me, I am hypnotizing you. You are a tornado.
1:18:52
Adam
Hold on, let me get in on this.
1:18:54
Caller
Go ahead.
1:18:55
Third Eye Blind
Go forth and rock the house.
1:18:57
Drew
We call this a bunker buster.
1:18:59
Adam
Yeah, name your penis.
1:19:01
Caller
It's psychological that I can't around a woman. I can sometimes, just not all the time.
1:19:06
Adam
Well, here's the thing. If your mantra is, I can't have an erection around a woman, you won't.
1:19:11
Drew
You won't. And how she reacts to it helps you too. If she's sort of understanding and calms out as a focus on your performance and all that, these kinds of things often take care of themselves.
1:19:20
Adam
But just in life, you're not a real confident person? No. Yeah. And this is going right to your penis.
1:19:29
Drew
There is, you know, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but there are things to improve your penile performance. And Viagra would do that. And perhaps you get a few good sessions under your belt.
1:19:40
Adam
So you're saying, like, sort of artificially do it, get it under your belt, and then you could move on.
1:19:46
Drew
Perhaps.
1:19:46
Adam
Hey, Chris, what about that?
1:19:49
Drew
Where do I go to get that? A doctor? Your doctor. Yeah. And then also you should be evaluated and make sure that it's not a medical... You're not diabetic or anything like that, right?
1:19:55
Caller
All right.
1:19:56
Drew
You're not diabetic or anything? No medical problems? Chris? Chris?
1:20:00
Caller
Yes, sir.
1:20:00
Drew
You're not diabetic? You have no medical problems?
1:20:02
Caller
No.
1:20:03
Drew
All right.
1:20:03
Third Eye Blind
This isn't about, this isn't about... This is about him feeling good about himself. That's really what it is. Figure out how to do that.
1:20:10
Adam
What is it? I don't know why. Well, we're just getting a little tangential here because Stephen is here.
1:20:17
Caller
But in reference...
1:20:19
Third Eye Blind
That's what I'm here for.
1:20:21
Adam
We're doing a lot of thinking. But what is it about certain people just kind of go through life sort of broken? And I know we want to blame everything on everyone's parents. But it's not that. It's like certain people are just almost like certain breeds of dogs.
1:20:34
Drew
You and I have had this conversation.
1:20:34
Adam
They're like a little skittish and they're shy.
1:20:36
Third Eye Blind
They're just sort of born into that sign somehow.
1:20:39
Drew
Why don't people want to make change? This is the thing.
1:20:42
Adam
I always say as a human being, the advantage we have over every other animal is we get to change. I mean you can take a look at yourself at 18 and be totally different at 28. You can be a new person. You can say to yourself at whatever age you are, hey, I got this, that, and the other that's really good about me, and then I got X, Y, and Z that's not very good about me, and I'll just go ahead and change that.
1:21:08
Third Eye Blind
People will tell you that you can't change and don't believe them.
1:21:11
Adam
No, but we squander it as human beings.
1:21:14
Third Eye Blind
There's no capacity to change.
1:21:15
Adam
Yeah. I don't want to sound too preachy, but I'm a person personally who's changed completely.
1:21:21
Drew
Me too.
1:21:23
Adam
And it's for the worse. Well, for me, it was for the better.
1:21:25
Drew
Very boring to modestly boring.
1:21:27
Adam
Right. I mean, for me-
1:21:29
Third Eye Blind
Andrew, I think you've been exactly the same since you were four.
1:21:32
Adam
Yeah, I do.
1:21:34
Third Eye Blind
I have friends like you, and I count you as a friend of mine, but you've been the same since you were four.
1:21:39
Adam
How dare you claim to evolve?
1:21:42
Drew
Probably in more than I would care to think of myself, but in my mind, I've changed in terms of-
1:21:50
Adam
Well, I'm going to answer for you, Drew. You don't have to become a different person. I mean, I'm the same person as I was ten years ago. I just figured out a couple of things that were screwing me up and tried to change those couple of things so I could make some money and have a good life and enjoy my life. And everybody can do that. And that's all I'm saying is there's a couple- All of you have a couple of chinks in your armor. We all do. And just focus on those chinks and become a super person.
1:22:16
Drew
And here's the problem is that what we have a lot of in our time is character problems, personality disorders. And the characteristic of having character pathology is blaming the external world for all of your problems. However you're feeling-
1:22:30
Third Eye Blind
What do you mean by external world?
1:22:31
Drew
It's out there. It's their fault, the boss' fault, the world's fault, your fault. They cannot, cannot accept that it's they, they must look at themselves.
1:22:39
Adam
Right.
1:22:40
Drew
And my great book for road less travel addresses that very nicely.
1:22:43
Adam
Or they're like Drew, which is they blame themselves for everything.
1:22:46
Drew
Everything.
1:22:47
Adam
And can't blame it on anyone else.
1:22:48
Drew
Can't get away from a ticket without feeling like crap.
1:22:50
Third Eye Blind
Well, I think I've probably changed more in the last year than I've changed in the last 10. I'm exhausted. I've had enough changing. I've had enough evolving and growing for a while.
1:23:02
Adam
But it's good. I mean, I know it sounds like we're all sitting here just stroking ourselves off on the radio.
1:23:09
Drew
And we are.
1:23:09
Adam
And no, but we are.
1:23:11
Drew
But here's what I'm saying. You're doing it under the console, not the radio.
1:23:14
Adam
I changed and I think I can speak for Stephen and Drew here, too. I changed because I wasn't right before. I mean, there were things that needed to change. And I'm not done changing and there's plenty more work to do and I think we'd all agree on that. For everybody.
1:23:28
Third Eye Blind
Well, this guy we were just talking to, he's going to change and pretty soon he's going to get a wicked erection and-
1:23:33
Adam
He may or he may. We hope he does.
1:23:35
Drew
We wish him well.
1:23:36
Adam
All I'm saying to all of you is you completely have the ability to do that as a human being. Why squander it?
1:23:45
Drew
Why get it up now?
1:23:46
Adam
Why be that person who's exactly the same at age 20 as you- I mean at age 40 as you were at 15 and you'll be the same at 75?
1:23:55
Third Eye Blind
Well, because it's scary. That's one reason. I mean, you got to look at yourself and you got to get with it. That's a freaky proposition.
1:24:04
Adam
I know. But believe me, everyone, just go out and do it. It's a much more satisfying existence. All right. I got to go home, beat off and take a nap.
1:24:14
Drew
Not yet.
1:24:15
Adam
Oh, I see. That's right. We're going to take a little break.
1:24:18
Third Eye Blind
He's going to be back, everybody.
1:24:20
Drew
You didn't mean it.
1:24:20
Adam
Then we'll be back. Hey, everybody. We're having a serious and interesting conversation with Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind.
1:25:03
Caller
And you don't stop.
1:25:04
Adam
Dr. Drew over there from Pasadena. Third Eye Blind CD probably won't be on the show, but it's on the show. The CD will probably be out in a few months, but they're working hard on it, at least Stephen is. He's built himself a new recording studio, which is done now?
1:25:21
Third Eye Blind
It's almost done. The studio is almost done. Having an album out in the next few months is really optimistic.
1:25:27
Adam
Well, next few could mean eight.
1:25:29
Third Eye Blind
June.
1:25:31
Adam
Nine months.
1:25:34
Third Eye Blind
But we're working on it.
1:25:35
Adam
That's right. That's the important part. How's Orion doing?
1:25:39
Third Eye Blind
Oh, he's tops. Good.
1:25:41
Adam
Tell him I said hi. John?
1:25:43
Yeah?
1:25:44
Adam
You're 16?
1:25:45
Caller
Yeah.
1:25:45
Adam
What's up?
1:25:46
Caller
Hey, I got some questions for Steve.
1:25:48
Adam
Here he is.
1:25:50
Caller
Hey, man. Hey.
1:25:52
Caller
Dude, you guys are killer. Thanks, man.
1:25:54
Third Eye Blind
Thanks, bro.
1:25:55
Caller
But, God of One, what is that song about, man?
1:25:59
Caller
I love that one.
1:26:00
Caller
It's got to be my favorite one.
1:26:01
Caller
I can't figure it out.
1:26:03
Third Eye Blind
Well, but it makes you feel something.
1:26:06
Caller
Say what?
1:26:06
Third Eye Blind
The song makes you feel something, so that's what it's about. Do you understand what I'm saying? Like, I mean, I wrote this song for very personal reasons, but if it travels to you, then what it makes you feel is what it's about. I'm totally serious. But if you want to know from me, what? Now, Adam's over here is like, no.
1:26:26
Adam
I know. We get this all the time. What's the song about? Which is what's the song about, what's the song about, what's the song about? And the people say, what did it make you feel? And that's right. I agree with you.
1:26:39
Third Eye Blind
The song is in part is about kind of what we were just talking about during the break is that one of the lines in the song says, I walk home alone with you and the mood that you're born into. Sometimes you let me in and I take it on the chin. And it's kind of about those people who are just born under that sign and it's negative and they've got this really negative energy but you're drawn to them like the moth to the flame. Those people are always somehow so seductive to me. And it's those kinds of relationships that are negative but in a really gloriously beautiful and damaging way.
1:27:21
Adam
Yeah, there's a lot of seduction in that.
1:27:24
Drew
There's a good book about narcissism coming out called Why Is It Always About You? It talks about exactly this, why we're drawn into the orbit of people that are negative.
1:27:34
Third Eye Blind
So that's probably part of it. I never know what my songs are about. I just write them and I try to not judge what I'm writing as I do it and that's why it always makes me end up looking really bad.
1:27:49
Adam
Do you go off of more of a feeling? I mean it's not like you're trying to convey a message. You're trying to respond to a feeling that you have, right?
1:27:58
Third Eye Blind
Yeah. I think you get into some kind of emotional condition and then there are words for it and you just try and put them down. I'm glad you like that song.
1:28:10
Adam
And whatever feeling you have, that's the right one. Unless it's like kill. Kill your family or something. Maria?
1:28:18
Caller
Yes.
1:28:18
Adam
You're 25?
1:28:20
Caller
Yes, but they told me that I wasn't going to be young.
1:28:23
Drew
All right. Well, here you are.
1:28:24
Third Eye Blind
Here you are. Bonus round.
1:28:26
Caller
Okay. I did some speed on Tuesday afternoon and my arm went numb at 6 o'clock in the morning. And I was numb till like this morning on Thursday.
1:28:40
Third Eye Blind
Because you did speed.
1:28:41
Caller
Yeah. Well, I just wanted to know if it was because of that.
1:28:44
Adam
Did you, how did you do it? Did you shoot it or did you snort it?
1:28:48
Caller
Yeah, I snorted it.
1:28:49
Drew
Did you crash out real bad afterwards?
1:28:53
Caller
No, I didn't go to sleep at all.
1:28:56
Drew
But then when you finally did go to sleep, did you crash pretty badly? Why is that a hard question?
1:29:03
Caller
I don't know.
1:29:04
Adam
Hey Maria, you got any kids?
1:29:09
Drew
That's a hard question too Adam.
1:29:11
Adam
Maria, has something come out of your vagina beside a penis and a tampon?
1:29:18
Third Eye Blind
That was a little vulgar, don't you think?
1:29:19
Adam
Sorry, yes. I apologize. Are you high?
1:29:22
Caller
No, I got up because I'm scared.
1:29:24
Adam
Okay, do you...
1:29:26
Caller
That's the only thing that scared me. Someone already told me and they started for the first time.
1:29:30
Adam
Do you have any kids? Do you have any kids?
1:29:32
Caller
You know what?
1:29:33
Caller
I just want to know.
1:29:34
Adam
Oh, okay.
1:29:36
Drew
That's a yes.
1:29:37
Adam
Alright, hey, listen mama. You got to get some help. Do you understand?
1:29:42
Drew
You're going to lose your kids if you're not careful.
1:29:45
Third Eye Blind
Have you been doing a lot of Speed?
1:29:48
Caller
Yeah.
1:29:50
Third Eye Blind
Can I tell you something? Can I just suggest something to you? I promise you that you have gotten absolutely every last drop of everything Speed has to offer you. So move on.
1:30:01
Adam
That's a good point. Yeah. It's such a crappy drug and doing Speed when you have kids is really like, I don't know, why don't you just do something like make snuff films or something, something more responsible?
1:30:17
Drew
Well, here's the deal with the numbness. I mean, it's possible it was a stroke or what are they called? A reversal ischemic neurologic deficit.
1:30:22
Caller
It's possible it was that.
1:30:23
Adam
I didn't want to correct you.
1:30:24
Drew
It's also possible that you crashed badly and slept on that arm and crushed the nerve and took a couple of years for it to come back.
1:30:30
Adam
I like those stories.
1:30:32
Drew
So whatever it is, it's not a good thing. It needs to be evaluated and you need the sympathamine addiction treated.
1:30:37
Adam
All right. All right. And we were talking about denial earlier. Maybe it was off the air, but it's time to get out of that. Is that Michelle? I'll say it's Michelle.
1:30:48
Third Eye Blind
It is Michelle.
1:30:49
Adam
What's happening? It was spelled in a strange way. What's up?
1:30:52
Third Eye Blind
Well, I would like to say, first of all, Third Eye Blind, Stephen Jenkins, you're awesome. My friends and I have been to six of your concerts, and every time we just have a fabulous time.
1:31:01
Third Eye Blind
Oh, thank you, Michelle.
1:31:03
Third Eye Blind
Completely.
1:31:03
Third Eye Blind
Thank you so much.
1:31:04
Third Eye Blind
The question is, oh yeah, one day a week. Anyway, the question is, my friend gave you a statue of a Greek god with a large penis in Santa Barbara a few years ago.

Third Eye Blind
Yeah, I remember that one.
1:31:14
Third Eye Blind
OK, right on. I was just seeing if maybe, you know, if you... My understanding is we ran into Orion in Reno, and he said that you guys carried around in the tour bus. And my friend was wondering if maybe you do, if it was just a myth.
1:31:27
Third Eye Blind
No, we actually really did carry that around on the tour bus. But the thing is, is that things from the tour bus get stolen. People wanting fans.
1:31:36
Adam
They want momentum.
1:31:37
Third Eye Blind
Our security is really bad. And so we lost the statue with the big penis. But we did really enjoy it for quite some time. So thank your friend.
1:31:44
Third Eye Blind
Bonus, and I will let her know, because she's just so jazzed. Anything or everything about Third Eye Blind, she is on 10 about. So I appreciate you. Thank you so much for all the joy that you brought my friends and myself.
1:31:55
Third Eye Blind
Oh, the pleasure is mine. Thank you.
1:31:57
Third Eye Blind
Oh, thanks, Michelle. You have a great night.
1:31:59
Third Eye Blind
Okay.
1:32:00
Adam
Thanks. You too. Well, we'll take a little break. And we'll be right back.
1:32:08

Okay, so I know there's nothing wrong with me. So what's up?
1:32:10
Caller
So I was like you, and I used to think that these datelines were totally cheesy. Why can't I meet anybody? But I tried everything else and thought, what the hell? So I called the dateline and actually met a cool guy.
1:32:18
Caller
And I called the dateline and I hooked up with some cool people.
1:32:20
Caller
Believe it or not, other normal people are out there looking too.

Third Eye Blind
No, she's my assistant.
1:33:22
Adam
She's smelling good.
1:33:23
Drew
Oh, no, she's your Sarah. Yeah, we have a Sarah, too.
1:33:25
Adam
Bouncy, bouncy. That's right. And I want to thank Sarah, Sarah, Stephen's assistant.
1:33:30
Third Eye Blind
Greatest personal assistant ever.
1:33:31
Adam
Yes. And I want to thank Tara, don't call me Tara, god damn it, for doing a great job on the phones. Producer Anne, of course, for booking great guests like Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind. And of course, the man with the magic fingers over there. Anderson. Anderson. So again, everyone go out and support a very good cause Saturday night at The Will Turn with Stephen, Third Eye Blind and all his very talented friends. Stephen, good seeing you as usual.
