Voiceover
Listener discretion is advised. Stryker! And Dr. Drew Loveline, Coast to Coast.
1:12
Stryker
There goes the neighborhood. Yeah, this is Loveline. Welcome, you guys. Hopefully, you survived the weekend. If you went to New Orleans, hopefully, you survived there. You got some beads, you gave up beads. You ended up on Girl's Gone Bad, Video 7. You never know. Drew, what's up?
1:24
Drew
You sound a little hoarse. Were you yelling during the event or?
1:27
Stryker
Consuming and yelling.
1:29
Drew
It was a great game.
1:30
Stryker
I had a lot of talking to do during that game. It was a fantastic game. And then I was screaming on Saturday, watching Arizona play Stanford and basketball and don't play Who Cares Anderson. And...
1:40
Stryker
Who cares?
1:43
Stryker
I do.
1:44
Adam
Thank you very much.
1:45
Stryker
So, just fantastic weekend.
1:46
Stryker
Good.
1:47
Stryker
Oh, man. And tonight's a cool night because, well, I'm hosting Loveline. That's mediocre. But the cool thing about tonight is Jason Schwartzman is sitting to my right.
1:54
Stryker
Ow!
1:55
Drew
Ow! Jason was just telling us off the air just as we got on. I thought you guys had like a huge production.
2:01
Stryker
I thought this was...
2:02
Adam
Growing up, you know, as a teenager listening to the show, I expected a much bigger production here. 80 people at keyboard screening calls.
2:10
Drew
Well, you expected like at least something resembling state-of-the-art technology. Yeah.
2:15
Stryker
And now you have Drew who obviously is super smart. Then I'm sitting here in some 80-year-old sweats, but I got the cool like... You look great. Well, thanks, man. It's beautiful.
2:25
Adam
No, I really did. I imagine like just Kubrick style futuristic. But it's cute. I mean, it's cute. It's cute.
2:32
Stryker
It's cute. It said we have this cute little studio.
2:34
Adam
It's nice when you guys have room.
2:35
Stryker
This audition conserves no purpose anymore.
2:37
Adam
Something like that.
2:38
Stryker
Goodbye.
2:38
Stryker
Goodbye. So from now until about 11 o'clock, you're going to hang out. Then 11, we'll bring in some of the boys from your band Phantom Planet.
2:44
Adam
Yes, I believe Alex and Sam from Phantom Planet.
2:46
Stryker
And you're in a new movie coming out pretty soon.
2:48
Adam
Well, I came out on Friday, Slackers.
2:50
Stryker
Oh, Slackers.
2:50
Adam
Yeah. But there's another one coming out after that too.
2:53
Stryker
Well, how many things you want to plug tonight? You got a band, you got two movies.
2:55
Drew
What else?
2:56
Adam
That's it.
2:56
Stryker
What about the porn career? How's that thing going?
2:58
Adam
Not so good.
3:00
Drew
He wrapped that up.
3:00
Stryker
Damn it.
3:01
Adam
Yeah, I got out early.
3:02
Stryker
Tell us about Slackers for people that don't know that much about it or haven't seen it yet.
3:05
Adam
Well, it's an R-rated, crazy flick about a character who I play named Cool Ethan, who is absolutely obsessed with this girl played by James King, who's a former supermodel. She is. And basically I catch these Slackers guys cheating on this midterm and I have evidence that they've cheated. So I use that evidence as blackmail to basically get me the girl or I will kick them out of school.
3:31
Drew
They help you get the girl.
3:32
Adam
Right. And using all their techniques. They have the school wired. And so using all their...
3:39
Drew
Their airline pilots, their FBI...
3:40
Adam
Yeah, their everything. They download the emails, they go through all the clothes, they get everything, the Cosmo Girls surveys, whatever. In the process of trying to get information on this girl, one of the guys falls in love with her. And she falls for him and then I find out and I lose my mind and it's war and it's dirty and it's crazy and it's sick and fun and it's smart too.
4:02
Stryker
And it came out three days ago.
4:04
Adam
Yeah. Very cool. It's phenomenal. Congratulations.
4:07
Stryker
Thank you. I saw you on Letterman the other night and the night after that as well. You had a double feature.
4:12
Adam
Yeah.
4:13
Stryker
And you're very funny on there and I can't believe it was between you and Haley Joel Osment for the six cents.
4:18
Adam
I know. I'll let him have it though.
4:20
Drew
How did you swing two nights in a row?
4:23
Adam
Well, actually it was supposed to be one night. We were supposed to get myself and Phantom Planet on the show.
4:28
Drew
I see.
4:28
Adam
Split it up. Yeah. Tim Russert, this political commentator was on. It was great though. It was great to be on there twice. I love Dave Letterman.
4:37
Stryker
Me too.
4:37
Adam
I'm a big fan of his. To be on there once is so amazing.
4:41
Stryker
And then back to back with the band. Drumming. I've seen Paul Schaefer watch it.
4:46
Adam
I got to say though, being on there solo was so scary that once I finished, just to play drums and to be on it was such a cake, cake, right? I was, the only thing I told myself was, don't drop a stick. If you drop a stick, you can never have sugar again for the rest of your life. Right. And I didn't drop a stick. There you go. I had a donut on the way over here.
5:07
Stryker
From where?
5:07
Adam
Stans donut. I like Stans donut.
5:09
Stryker
It's the big round donut. If you don't live in LA, it's right by the airport. I love there. My dad used to go there Saturday mornings and bring them home.
5:14
Drew
It's basically, it's the huge donut on top of the donut stand that Homer Simpson always tries to grab and eat.
5:19
Stryker
Yes. Much better described than me. Alright. It's 1-800-LOVE-191. Jason Schwartzman is here for questions and comments, and he'll talk about anything the hell you want. Jamie19, you're on Loveline.
5:30
Adam
This is great. Before you talk, Jamie, this is so cool. I've always wanted to call into this show, let alone, I can't believe we're actually taking a call right now. Oh yeah.
5:41
Stryker
Plus, you're about as smart as I am, I think. So our advice is...
5:45
Drew
You're going to get over this real fast.
5:47
Adam
All right, Jamie, hit me. Talk, Jamie.
5:49
Stryker
Okay, hey. I'm wondering, okay, I'm wanting to move out, but I don't know how to tell the people that I'm living with.
5:57
Stryker
Who are you living with?
5:58
Adam
Move out to the West Coast, move out of the house. What are you talking about?
6:01
Stryker
There are a couple of ex-cons and I don't want to...
6:05
Stryker
Watch the language.
6:07
Drew
Can we keep talking to him or are you going to cut him off? No. Anderson, get rid of him. You're done.
6:10
Stryker
He lives with ex-cons and he wants to move out.
6:12
Drew
Yeah. I don't understand why you moving on, unless he has some sort of financial obligation, which he merely has to fulfill, at which point he can move on.
6:21
Stryker
Good advice so far, Jason.
6:22
Stryker
You're doing really well.
6:24
Stryker
Kirk, you're 21 on Loveline.
6:26
Stryker
What's up, guys? What's up, Schwartzman?
6:27
Adam
Hey, how you doing?
6:28
Stryker
I'm cool in the gang, man. How are you doing?
6:31
Adam
Not too shabby.
6:32
Stryker
Not too shabby. My question is for Dr. Drew. Maybe he can answer this or maybe Mr. Corolla can be a smart ass about it. I don't know. What I'm wondering is why do doctors call it a practice? You know what I'm saying? Like my practice is over on the west side or you know what I'm saying?
6:49
Drew
They also call it a practice of law.
6:51
Stryker
Right, or a practice of law. Why is it? Because my theory is the only things I can think of are like the doctor's practicing and if he screws up, you know, it doesn't count. It was just practice.
7:02
Stryker
Who cares?
7:05
Drew
Let's see if it says something.
7:06
Stryker
Thanks, Adam.
7:07
Stryker
Unacceptable.
7:08
Stryker
There you go.
7:09
Stryker
Unacceptable.
7:10
Stryker
Yes.
7:12
Stryker
And you're gay and you're fat.
7:14
Drew
The condition of being efficient through systematic exercise.
7:18
Stryker
Are you actually answering my question?
7:19
Drew
Here's the definition. The definition of practice is the continuous exercise of a profession. Whatever. So it's just a separate meaning for the word practice that he only knows to mean to repeat over and over or to become proficient at. It has a wholly separate definition, which is the continuous exercise of a profession.
7:39
Stryker
Okay. You're still practicing, right?
7:41
Drew
Yeah. Although I got to say, whenever I've cut down on my workload, I've noticed that your expertise, you have to really do this a lot all the time.
7:50
Stryker
Or you're going to fall behind.
7:51
Drew
It's amazing.
7:52
Stryker
Everyone's moving forward, right?
7:53
Drew
Because when you're doing it a lot of the time, it comes so naturally, you think it's like ice skating or something. It's like, well, this is no big deal. You cut back, all of a sudden, it's like, holy God.
8:01
Stryker
It's like drugs. If you're still living in the 70s, you're way behind. You're not doing the X now.
8:06
Adam
Do you get all the medical journals and keep up with all the medicines?
8:10
Stryker
Pam, what's up? You're 16 on Loveline.
8:14
Stryker
Yeah. Hi, guys. I really like to say I really like the show. I listen to it every night and it's the coolest thing.
8:20
Drew
We really like Chicago. That's good.
8:23
Stryker
It's kind of boring right now, but whatever. I also listen when I was listening because we have the delay. Drew and someone else were talking about the Super Bowl, and it was like, yeah, the Rams are totally going to win. I thought it was really funny.
8:38
Drew
Sunday night there. It was you and I.
8:40
Stryker
I have a jackass.
8:41
Drew
It was you and I.
8:41
Stryker
Yeah, that was me, Pam.
8:43
Stryker
It was so funny.
8:44
Stryker
My name is Regis.
8:45
Drew
Who knew?
8:47
Stryker
Yeah, it was like an hour or so after the game. I was just like, I didn't win. It was really kind of funny.
8:52
Stryker
Wow.
8:52
Drew
There you go. It's again the miracle of the high tech studio we live in here, Jason.
8:55
Adam
It was amazing.
8:57
Stryker
Very funny.
8:59
Stryker
What's up, Pam?
9:00
Stryker
Actually, okay, I'm on this diet right now. It's kind of like the acting side, I think. I don't know. Acting?
9:05
Stryker
Atkins diet.
9:06
Drew
Atkins diet. So you're on a high protein, low carb, high fat.
9:10
Stryker
What mine is, is like for breakfast and lunch, I'll have vegetables and protein with like no snacks, and I can have whatever I want for dinner.
9:16
Drew
Okay.
9:17
Stryker
And it's working pretty well. It's a pretty slow process, but it's, I guess it's kind of healthy.
9:21
Drew
Yeah. It sounds like you really should be eating another meal with protein in the morning too, and maybe not go nuts at night. Like it sounds like you might be inclined to do.
9:29
Stryker
Pam, I found a fantastic bar to eat, and it's called Something Nine. Jason, I don't know if you know. It only has one carb, 22 proteins.
9:40
Adam
I'm going to burst in here. I used to eat a lot of the bars. Yeah. I used to, you know.
9:44
Drew
They're high calorie.
9:44
Adam
But I got to say something. I really don't, I'd rather have a couple of pieces of chicken or something with the same amount, because I don't believe in all the chemicals and all the, there's stuff in there that's got to be just as weird for your body.
9:57
Drew
To me, it's much more satisfying to have a meal.
9:59
Adam
Yeah.
10:00
Drew
And meals?
10:01
Stryker
Well, my question is actually, just today I recently tried that metabolite stuff.
10:06
Stryker
Metabolite.
10:07
Stryker
Because this is really slow, and I haven't been losing weight for like a month, for two months so far.
10:12
Stryker
Are you working out at all?
10:14
Stryker
I do work out like three, four times a week.
10:17
Stryker
You do cardio?
10:19
Stryker
I run for about 20 minutes, and then I lift a little weights, but then sometimes during the week I dance.
10:25
Stryker
You should bump up your cardio like 15 minutes.
10:27
Drew
That's much better than taking any substances. Metabolite, at least it used to have a stimulant in it. Anything that actually works is going to have a pharmacologic effect. So it's much better you take a really, truly balanced diet with real food, meaning well-cooked meats, vegetables, fruits, fresh stuff out of the ground, and then exercise like crazy. Not like, not crazy crazy, but at least 20 minutes of... You know what actually is a good diet, believe it or not, is that seafood diet. Was it Diet For Life, Guy? That's a pretty good one.
11:03
Stryker
But is it one that I'm on now? Does it seem okay?
11:06
Drew
Well, it seems a little bit erratic. That you tend to, if you eat a lot at some point during the day, it tends to change the way you're... People theorize maybe it's your insulin metabolism that drives your blood sugar down and increases your hunger. So you really want to keep a uniform, more balanced intake throughout the day. So vegetables, protein in the morning, get it at lunch.
11:25
Stryker
Do you diet, Dr. Drew?
11:27
Drew
I try to be healthy.
11:28
Stryker
What about you, Jason?
11:29
Adam
I do. Can I ask you, do you think looking this good comes naturally?
11:34
Stryker
I think you work at it with a bunch of twinkies in the morning.
11:36
Adam
Did you see my body?
11:38
Stryker
No, I haven't seen it yet.
11:38
Adam
This is a beautiful, this is a work of art.
11:40
Stryker
How about when you get a movie role? Do you consciously work out to just...
11:44
Adam
Well, I did this movie, this spun movie, this where I played Crystal Methodist and I had like three weeks to try and lose as much weight as possible and I couldn't really go too crazy, but I remember I was drinking, I would have these shakes, I'd have one shake in the morning, one shake at night and then a no carb meal, like a piece of chicken or something for dinner and it was crazy and I'd take all these herbs and I was getting acupuncture, it was crazy.
12:07
Stryker
How much did you drop in three weeks?
12:08
Adam
A lot of weight, like 22 pounds or something, crazy.
12:12
Drew
Most of that ends up being muscle though.
12:14
Adam
Yeah, I still look like an idiot. But is it true that your metabolism slows down at night? Is it true like to eat a late meal is bad for you?
12:23
Stryker
I heard from this guy named Steve that says it's not super true.
12:29
Drew
I don't know the science well enough to comment.
12:31
Stryker
By the way, if you need someone to come in that does health stuff, I got a guy. I just thought of it.
12:36
Drew
But he's a, what is he?
12:38
Stryker
A health author guy that helped me out and it's so smart. He's on Good Morning America.
12:43
Drew
Dietary. Dietary guy. I think he's sort of right. Personally, that's my opinion, but I don't know the science well enough to respond responsibly. But the point is it equalizes out anyway.
12:58
Adam
It's total caloric intake for a day.
13:00
Stryker
I'm with that.
13:01
Adam
That's what I'm saying. Because right after this. Where are you going?
13:04
Drew
You're going to Donuts again. I love Donuts. What does really affect things is exercise. I swear to God, exercise is so much more important than anything else in terms of staying healthy, feeling good, staying healthy longest. That is the most important.
13:18
Adam
Jump rope.
13:19
Drew
Whatever it is. Whatever the exercise is, you'll do is the one you should do. Sorry.
13:24
Stryker
No, Jason, you're good. You're 50. What's going on?
13:27
Stryker
No, I'm 28.
13:28
Stryker
Oh, 28. I'm sorry. Go ahead.
13:33
Stryker
I have a question. I had a female experience before I was married, and my husband's wanting us to get engaged in a three-way now.
13:43
Drew
You're a lesbian.
13:44
Stryker
Drew, please, let her finish.
13:47
Stryker
I'm not really a lesbian, but I do kind of have fantasies, but I-
13:51
Drew
Yeah.
13:52
Adam
This is the first real question.
13:54
Stryker
I'm nervous.
13:56
Adam
I started to blush.
13:57
Stryker
I'm afraid to act out on it, you know, because I'm afraid it'll interfere with our marriage. Because we have a really great marriage.
14:04
Drew
A great marriage where the husband's trying to push you into a threesome.
14:07
Stryker
Well, he's not really pushing, but he does have the fantasy.
14:10
Adam
All right.
14:11
Drew
Well, let him, if he has any other weird fantasies that could be destructive, allow them to stay with him. It doesn't mean you have to go act on these things. It sounds like you kind of want to do this and you want to use the threesome as an excuse to have another same-sex experience again, but you're married, you're committed, you're in a monogamous relationship, you diminish the safety and health of that relationship if you go act out with someone else.
14:31
Stryker
Whether you're married or not married, that's going to screw up a relationship from what I gather from listening all the time.
14:36
Drew
Correct, Drew? Correct. I'm getting an echo. Am I the only one?
14:39
Stryker
I am too.
14:39
Drew
Yeah, we got a heavy-duty echo.
14:41
Adam
Can I have more echo on my list? I want to sound like, you're a drummer, please be quiet.
14:46
Drew
What's that, Laurie?
14:47
Stryker
Is it coming from my end?
14:48
Drew
Might be. It might be. You got to turn the radio off.
14:50
Stryker
Jason, don't you think that every guy pretty much wants to have a threesome? Or at least thinks about it every so often?
14:57
Drew
No. I think that's a reasonable thing for guys to think about.
15:00
Stryker
But it's not reasonable to force your mate into it.
15:02
Drew
Yeah. I mean, an unmarried 28-year-old would be thinking about it. But a 28-year-old is married?
15:08
Stryker
Well, it's like we both kind of think about it.
15:10
Drew
I know, Laurie, that you want to use this as an excuse to go ahead and have another lesbian experience. But you're a lesbian. No, there's a reason that it shouldn't happen. It's not good for your marriage. Okay. Do you have kids? No.
15:23
Stryker
All right.
15:24
Drew
Well, how long have you been married?
15:25
Adam
Maybe she should do it then.
15:26
Stryker
Yeah.
15:26
Stryker
How long have you been married?
15:27
Stryker
We've been married three years.
15:29
Drew
What's up with you that you have all this ambivalence about? Why'd you get married if you want to have other experiences?
15:34
Stryker
Well, I only did it once.
15:36
Drew
Yeah, but you want to do it again. Why did you get married if you're interested in fooling around?
15:41
Stryker
I like men more.
15:43
Drew
But why did you get married?
15:43
Stryker
I have a great idea for Laurie. Laurie, move to LA, become a porn star, but stay married. There is that option.
15:50
Adam
I can introduce you to a couple of porn people out here.
15:52
Stryker
You know a lot of the other people, don't you, Jason?
15:54
Drew
No.
15:54
Stryker
Yes, you do.
15:55
Adam
But can I ask you, does that mean though that no, you can't, but if you get married, of course you're always going to have, are you ever?
16:02
Drew
Fantasy, sure, of course.
16:04
Adam
I mean, I'm not.
16:05
Drew
But you contain it. You don't go after the intern in your executive office.
16:11
Stryker
Get two chicks in the same bed, do them.
16:13
Stryker
That's what I'm talking about. Michael?
16:16
Stryker
Yeah.
16:16
Stryker
What's up? You're 13 on Loveline.
16:18
Stryker
I just want to ask Dr. Drew something.
16:20
Stryker
Why do they sterilize lethal injections?
16:22
Drew
That's a great question.
16:23
Stryker
What?
16:24
Drew
Why do they sterilize legally? Why do they bother?
16:26
Stryker
Oh, if they're going to die anyways, why clean the thing without a sterile technique? What's the answer?
16:31
Drew
I don't know. That's a great question.
16:32
Adam
That's genius.
16:33
Drew
Maybe it's a genius question. Maybe it's to avoid in the case there's an earthquake and somebody slips and somebody standing nearby should get stuck with a needle. I don't know.
16:42
Stryker
Have you witnessed one of those before?
16:44
Drew
No.
16:44
Stryker
How about the hanging?
16:46
Drew
No. Shooting? No. Anything? Many, many, many of deaths but of natural.
16:52
Stryker
Oh, really?
16:53
Drew
Yikes.
16:54
Stryker
Matt?
16:55
Drew
Hey, one thing I realized, when you're internal medicine, people come to medical, general medical doctors do die. It's a common thing.
17:02
Stryker
20, Matt. What's up?
17:04
Stryker
Hey, what's up, guys?
17:05
Stryker
What's up, dude?
17:06
Stryker
Hey, so I've been dating my girlfriend for about two and a half years.
17:11
Stryker
And you want to have a threesome with a guy? No.
17:14
Drew
All right. Disregard the wisecrack.
17:20
Stryker
All right. So, you know, everything's been going all right. She's 24. I'm 20. And, you know, I'm in college right now. I don't go to a community college, by the way. And, you know, I think it's just time for me to move on, but I don't really know how to say that. You know, she's a cool chick, but I don't really know how to, like, end it.
17:40
Drew
You've been dating her for two and a half years?
17:41
Stryker
She was seventeen.
17:43
Stryker
Well, just eighteen.
17:44
Drew
And how old is she?
17:45
Stryker
I turned eighteen.
17:46
Drew
How old is she? Is this her first boyfriend relationship?
17:51
Stryker
I don't know. I think it's kind of our first serious relationships that we've both had.
17:55
Drew
I beg your pardon, Matt. You've been with her two and a half years. You don't know whether this is her first boyfriend or not?
17:59
Stryker
Well, this isn't our first boyfriend, but I think this is our first serious relationships that we've had.
18:06
Stryker
She's gone on dates to drive-ins and had frogs jump on the pizza, but never longer than two years, probably.
18:11
Stryker
Frogs on the pizza?
18:12
Stryker
I think my longest one before that is about four months.
18:17
Drew
All right, but is this her first love relationship?
18:20
Stryker
Yes, I think so. It's the first relationship longer than three months for her.
18:27
Drew
All right, so this is going to be the first real long-term thing for her. So this is going to be tough for her probably.
18:31
Stryker
Yeah.
18:32
Drew
Does she have any idea that there's problems?
18:34
Stryker
No.
18:34
Drew
And what's happening? What's making you want to leave?
18:38
Stryker
I just feel tied down right now.
18:40
Drew
You just want to go.
18:42
Stryker
I feel like our goals have...
18:44
Drew
All right, here's the deal. One of the rules though is if you leave, you're not allowed to come back when you find out that you can't get laid with just on your own merit.
18:52
Stryker
What about the rule a week after the breakup? It's two in the morning and he's coming home from a boat.
18:56
Drew
No booty call. You're not allowed to do that to her. You break up and you do not look back. That's harmful to her.
19:01
Stryker
Can you do that, Matt?
19:03
Stryker
Oh, man. See, I just want to explore and find out if she is the one.
19:07
Drew
That's fine, but you do not lay a hand on her. In fact, don't even speak to her for six months. Let her mourn the loss of the relationship and get over it on her own terms. She'll have a boyfriend in two weeks.
19:18
Stryker
Definitely.
19:18
Drew
And he'll be out there pissed off.
19:20
Stryker
Yeah. Matt, have fun in the Mile High City.
19:23
Drew
But listen, the way you do it, you just be honest with her. And you're not, believe me, nobody wants to be in a pity relationship. Nobody wants to be sort of strung along just because you don't know how to be honest. Be honest with them.
19:32
Stryker
It becomes a habit also.
19:33
Drew
It's an awful, awful situation for her. Let her do what's truly kind for her. Tell her what's real.
19:40
Adam
And the last thing I want to do is start to resent the person.
19:44
Drew
Oh, listen, there'll be no going back to her ever if she ends up angry with him for having strung along for a long time.
19:51
Stryker
Definitely. Jason Schwartzman is here and this question is for you directly.
19:55
Drew
The other thing guys do is they go, wait, they go ahead and cheat. That's the other thing they do. They stay in something until they actually cheat and then they get out.
20:01
Adam
Yeah, they have to have, or some guys are so passive aggressive that they are jerks so that the girl breaks up with them, but that goes back to something that happened when they were four, right?
20:11
Drew
No, no. That's what some guys do.
20:13
Stryker
Did the neighbor touch you at any time? Eric, what's up? Ask away. Jason, this is for you.
20:18
Adam
Hi.
20:18
Stryker
Hey, Jason, I go to Windward.
20:21
Adam
You do?
20:22
Stryker
Yeah.
20:22
Stryker
Wow. That's a guess on my part.
20:24
Adam
That does not say anything there.
20:25
Stryker
Yeah, and I had a bet with my friends.
20:27
Stryker
Yeah?
20:29
Stryker
What's the name of that little bunch of skin that runs from the testicles to the anus?
20:35
Drew
It has a... It's called a grundle. Grundle?
20:38
Stryker
Grundle.
20:38
Stryker
Whatever it is, it's a sensitive spotter.
20:40
Drew
It has many names, but that's one I've never heard.
20:43
Stryker
Yeah.
20:43
Stryker
Jason, you know the answer.
20:44
Adam
The taint?
20:45
Drew
Taint I've heard.
20:46
Adam
The chode?
20:47
Drew
The chode I've heard.
20:49
Stryker
The chode is the one I've heard.
20:51
Drew
The what?
20:51
Stryker
The bonch.
20:52
Drew
Bonch?
20:53
Adam
Don't know that one.
20:54
Drew
Come from a very creative...
20:55
Adam
The chin rest? Sorry.
21:00
Drew
Very creative.
21:00
Stryker
Now you're in the ballgame, baby.
21:02
Drew
Welcome to the show.
21:03
Adam
No, I was here the whole time. I was just a little tiger waiting to jump out.
21:07
Stryker
The chin rest. How come no hair grows in that spot?
21:10
Stryker
Yeah.
21:10
Drew
How come no hair grows wherever hair doesn't grow? You know what I'm saying? It's just the way your body is configured.
21:15
Stryker
Okay.
21:16
Drew
It's called the perineum in real life. Perineum.
21:19
Adam
Perineum.
21:20
Stryker
Okay.
21:20
Stryker
You like that spot, don't you, Eric?
21:22
Stryker
Yeah. I had a bet with Michael Fujikawa's little brother.
21:25
Adam
Fujikawa, Fuji, you're so cute. All right, we'll see you later then.
21:30
Stryker
Eric, have fun at Windward, man.
21:31
Adam
See you later, buddy.
21:31
Stryker
All right, have a nice day.
21:32
Drew
What's Windward?
21:33
Adam
Windward is my high school, my alma mater. Wow. Yeah, right down the street.
21:37
Drew
From here?
21:37
Adam
Palms and Sotel.
21:38
Stryker
I know a couple of people that went there growing up.
21:40
Adam
That's right.
21:41
Stryker
A lot of West Side stuff happening.
21:43
Adam
Yep.
21:43
Stryker
Crossroads Brentwood to Maroon Soccer, big game. They're in your league, aren't they?
21:47
Adam
Yeah, yep.
21:48
Stryker
See ya.
21:48
Stryker
Who cares?
21:51
Stryker
Oh, thank you. All right, we gotta take a break. Jason Schwartzman is hanging out on Stryker. He's in for Ace Rockolla along with Dr. Drew. Slackers is the flick. We'll talk about that. And then after 11 o'clock, we'll bring your band in and hang out with them too. All right. Sounds like a plan. Rock out. All right. Bye.
22:05
Stryker
Loveline, we'll be right back.
22:41
Stryker
Thank you, Jason, that was good stuff. All right, we're back at Loveline. I'm a striker in for Adam Carolla, who I saw on MTV in the football game when they have celebrities play against athletes.
22:51
Drew
What was that?
22:52
Stryker
Did you see his touchdown dance?
22:54
Drew
No.
22:54
Stryker
It was so funny, the Rock and John game. His touchdown dance, he caught a touchdown pass from Dan Marino.
23:00
Drew
Oh my God.
23:01
Stryker
Adam Corolla, he looked pretty athletic. I was surprised.
23:04
Drew
He was an all-state football player.
23:05
Stryker
Oh really?
23:06
Drew
Oh yeah.
23:06
Stryker
But he was good. Anyway, he caught the pass, was in the end zone, he squatted like he was on a toilet, made the face like he was pushing something out of the ball. No, hold on. No, no, no. Hit the ball behind his butt. And then, no, first acted like he was reading a newspaper, and then after he was done moving his hand, like reading a paper, then he did the face again, like pushing, and then the ball dropped.
23:28
Stryker
I can deal with the fact that I am gay now.
23:31
Stryker
Exactly. But Jason is here, and Slackers came out this past Friday, and it's crazy. You are well known for making that movie with Bill Murray Rushmore, which was, it was successful, but it's become kind of a cult favorite, I guess you can say.
23:47
Adam
Yeah, I mean, it didn't, I mean, yeah, not so many people saw it, I guess, because it didn't have the money to reach a huge audience. But, you know, but the people who like it get it, and I guess that's great for us. I mean, when we were making it, I didn't think that anyone was going to find it fun, except for like 10 people at home. So it was good to see that people understood it. It means a lot to people. It means a lot to me, so that's really wonderful.
24:10
Stryker
It was a fantastic movie, and now my question is, and Letterman kind of hit on this when you were on there, but you've only done, at least that have come out, like one, two, or maybe even three things at most since then. Is that because you're picky, or because of your band, or you've just been pretty much hanging out with your family? I don't know.
24:25
Adam
Well, when I finished the movie, I came back, I finished high school. I mean, that was just the natural thing. And then, you know, I've been playing in the band since I was 14. You know, that was my first thing. So it wasn't the next logical step wasn't to make another movie. And plus, when you're 17, there's a lot of things going on in your mind other than what movie am I going to make next? You know, just looking at who you are and meeting people. And I was just playing with my band.
24:51
Stryker
That's not true for everybody, by the way.
24:52
Adam
I know. But for me, I mean, look, but for some kid actors who have been acting since they were like two and their parents are there and, you know, and they have headshots and everything at the age of six. You know, making movies just, Rushmore would have been just one in a series of jobs. But it was my first one and I had never done it before. When I returned from making the movie, it wasn't like I was ready to keep going. I was worn out. I was like, it was like, it was like just taking me right now, throwing me into a boxing ring and like asking me to fight a professional fight and, you know, not even try to win, just try to get through it alive. And then once I got through it alive, it was like, you know, I don't want to fight again for a couple of years.
25:30
Stryker
Exactly.
25:30
Adam
I'm beat up, so it was kind of just relaxing.
25:32
Stryker
Fine explanation. I understand why you kind of just hung out a little bit.
25:36
Adam
Yeah, it was good.
25:36
Stryker
Good stuff. All right.
25:37
Adam
And I traveled.
25:38
Stryker
Really?
25:39
Adam
No. No?
25:40
Stryker
You went to the Valley one time.
25:41
Adam
Yeah.
25:41
Stryker
Mike, you're 22 on Loveline.
25:43
Stryker
Hi.
25:44
Stryker
Hi.
25:46
Stryker
My question is basically, how do you know when you have a friend who fool around sometimes? How do you know when he's just curious or?
25:56
Drew
You have a friend who's fooling around?
25:58
Stryker
Well, him and I fool around.
25:59
Drew
Him and you fool around. And how do you know, fill in the blank?
26:03
Stryker
How do you know if he's just curious or he's really?
26:07
Stryker
Is he receiving or giving?
26:09
Stryker
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
26:10
Drew
How do you know if he's gay?
26:13
Stryker
Well, he has a girlfriend too. So, it's like he doesn't admit he's gay or bisexual. He just says, you know, sometimes he's just experimenting, but it's been like two years.
26:23
Drew
How old is he?
26:23
Stryker
He's 19.
26:25
Drew
Okay. 19-year-olds can experiment. They should be just about wrapping that up. But...
26:31
Stryker
You're telling me.
26:32
Drew
Really, yeah.
26:33
Stryker
Literally.
26:35
Drew
And if he can't even figure out what he's doing or be honest with himself that he's having sex with a man, you've got someone who, at very minimum, we can say is confused, right?
26:45
Stryker
Yeah.
26:45
Drew
And there are a lot of people out there who are confused about their sexual identity. They don't know what they are or they're gay but can't admit it or can't deal with it or, you know, don't want to be that way and try to force themselves to be heterosexual. I don't know what's going on with this guy, but he is confused.
26:58
Stryker
Mike, what's your story? Are you gay, bi, straight?
27:01
Stryker
Well, kind of leading to the gay part, but not really.
27:05
Drew
Bag it, better run. No, actually, that's what we call bi. Bi, bi, to hetero.
27:09
Stryker
Exactly.
27:10
Adam
Do you have a sex, sex or is it just necking?
27:13
Stryker
It's sex, sex.
27:15
Stryker
Sex, sex. Well, I'd say he's probably gay or you're really good and he's just coming to come.
27:21
Drew
No, look, Mike, you're gay.
27:22
Stryker
If you're telling me straight, then I'm not allowed to say that.
27:24
Stryker
Yes, I love when you say that. Mike, you're gay.
27:29
Drew
Yeah, right? Mike, let's be clear here. You're gay. The other guy is confused and you can continue to carry on with him if you wish, but like any relationship where somebody's cheating on someone else, it's not going to be a particularly pleasant experience. Get him to clarify what's up with him and end that relationship if he's going to be screwing around with any other human beings.
27:49
Adam
Do they have feelings for each other?
27:51
Drew
That kind of sounds like it.
27:52
Stryker
Yeah, you do? Do you say I love you to him, Mike? Yeah, all the time. Does he have a hairy back?
27:57
Drew
He's going to be a screwed up partner. He's not going to be a great partner. He's screwing over this woman. And he's screwing over you. And he's confused.
28:05
Stryker
Yeah, but he's getting a lot of action.
28:07
Drew
Good times.
28:07
Stryker
Got that going for him out there. All right. Thank you, Michael.
28:10
Stryker
All right. Thanks.
28:11
Drew
Be careful. Watch your choices.
28:12
Adam
You just hang up and he's gay. Just like that.
28:14
Drew
That's it.
28:15
Adam
Wow.
28:15
Drew
I want to ask him something else.
28:16
Adam
Craziness.
28:16
Drew
Man wave my magic wand. Pow, you're gay. Jason, watch out.
28:19
Adam
You're gay.
28:19
Stryker
Watch out.
28:20
Drew
Dude, all I got to do is declare it and it's over.
28:22
Stryker
Tap it. All right.
28:25
Stryker
Brooke.
28:26
Stryker
Hi.
28:26
Stryker
Hi, you're 16 on Loveline and you're gay.
28:29
Stryker
No.
28:30
Adam
How you doing?
28:31
Stryker
Yeah. Hi Drew. Hi Stryker. Hey Jason.
28:34
Adam
Hey Brooke.
28:36
Stryker
Okay. Basically my question is there's this guy like that's 18. And I heard that like there's a three year rule. So if you're like within three years of each other that it's legal. But then he's 18. So I don't know.
28:50
Drew
In California, that's true. Really? Yeah.
28:55
Stryker
I told them that.
28:56
Drew
I think it's actually a two year rule. I'm just looking it up here if we have it.
28:59
Stryker
I thought it's just 18. You can't do it.
29:01
Drew
No, no. Not in California. They have it. They just this year or last year actually started a new law. Really?
29:05
Stryker
Jason, you're in.
29:05
Drew
Laws are within two years of the.
29:07
Stryker
We're going to call them the Junior Highs tomorrow, man.
29:09
Drew
And you have that info, the statutory rate law. She's going to get it.
29:13
Stryker
Brooke, is this guy in high school?
29:15
Stryker
No. He's graduated and neither am I.
29:17
Drew
Which reminds me.
29:18
Stryker
Hold on a sec. Why aren't you in high school?
29:20
Stryker
Well, I graduated this last year.
29:23
Drew
Early?
29:23
Adam
Yeah. So you're a genius.
29:25
Drew
Are you in college?
29:26
Stryker
No, not yet. I was thinking about probably this next year. I'll start.
29:30
Stryker
You work in fast food?
29:32
Stryker
Yeah. I have a car and I still live at home, but I'm doing good.
29:35
Stryker
That's cool.
29:36
Drew
Good for you. Again, we worry about the guy, not about you. If he's a good guy truly, we're okay with this. New HIV antibody test in the urine just came out.
29:45
Stryker
No way.
29:46
Drew
Yeah. Urine HIV test. It is 85 bucks as a component in this particular lab as opposed to $77.
29:54
Stryker
Wow.
29:56
Stryker
All right, Drew, can we get to that in a minute? Let's finish with Brooke.
29:58
Drew
Okay. You're right.
30:00
Stryker
You're going through your files in here. Drew brings this black notebook in.
30:03
Drew
What else you got here?
30:05
Stryker
What's this naked picture doing in here of this man, Drew? What is it? No.
30:08
Drew
It's a puddle of mud.
30:12
Stryker
It's a puddle of mud.
30:14
Stryker
It's a puddle of sperm is what it is. Brooke. Yeah. Oh, that is puddle of mud. I thought you had pictures of naked men. So your question is, is it legal? Drew, what's the answer?
30:22
Drew
Ann's going to run around trying to get that information.
30:24
Stryker
We're going to put you out of here.
30:25
Drew
I believe it is.
30:25
Adam
If it's not legal, you're not going to do anything?
30:28
Stryker
I probably will anyway, but I was just wondering.
30:29
Drew
All right.
30:30
Stryker
Well, good time.
30:31
Drew
There we go. Thank you, Jason.
30:33
Stryker
Brooke.
30:35
Drew
It's all right. We're giving it our blessing for the moment.
30:37
Stryker
All right. Hold on one second. We'll come back to you. Is that cool?
30:39
Adam
See you in a sec.
30:40
Stryker
Thanks. All right, Drew, let's get this question in for you. Jamie, 17. What's up?
30:44
Stryker
Hey, actually, I had a question about Depro Povera. Yeah.
30:48
Adam
Do you want to take this one or should I?
30:50
Stryker
Jason, go ahead.
30:51
Stryker
Okay.
30:52
Stryker
I'm on the Western right now.
30:53
Stryker
Of course. Actually, I stopped taking it like a month ago because I had been gaining a lot of weight from it. Well, I mean, I gained probably like 10 pounds and I grew like a breast size and a half. Yes.
31:05
Stryker
How much are you up to now?
31:08
Stryker
Well, I'm like 5'8, and I weigh like 155.
31:10
Stryker
Bouncy, bouncy.
31:13
Stryker
Were you talking about my breast?
31:15
Stryker
No.
31:15
Stryker
Okay. Anyways, so I was planning on switching to Debra Rivera, and I did some research online about it, and I showed, I mean, my mom's pretty involved in that kind of stuff, so I showed her what I looked up, and she was really scared about the whole part, about you may not get your period for like three months at a time.
31:37
Drew
Why does that scare her? Because it's not you may not, you will not. That's how it works. I mean, that's one of the things it does. You will bleed like crazy for three months, and then you will not bleed so long as you're on the shot after that.
31:49
Stryker
Oh, really?
31:50
Drew
Why does that bother her?
31:51
Stryker
Because she figures that that may make me infertile sometimes.
31:54
Drew
Absolutely not. That has categorically nothing to do with that.
31:57
Stryker
Is your mom there?
31:58
Stryker
No. I'm in Chicago, so she's sleeping.
32:01
Drew
Where are you?
32:01
Adam
North Shore?
32:02
Stryker
Yeah.
32:03
Adam
That's what I thought.
32:04
Drew
Why?
32:05
Adam
I don't know.
32:06
Drew
Is that a nice area? It's the only part of Chicago he knows. Glencoe? Jamie? Evanston? No. One thing you do need to worry about, and doctors don't spend a lot of time describing this to women, unfortunately, is it can affect your mood, it can affect your libido, your sex drive, that kind of thing. It's more of a masculinizing hormone than the estrogen, so people get muscular growth and sometimes even some hair and acne and things. It tends to go that way. So just as long as you understand that you're going to bleed for a while, then you're not going to bleed at all and you might have some other side effects, it's a very effective, very safe contraceptive.
32:43
Adam
You look like an American gladiator.
32:45
Drew
No.
32:46
Stryker
Would it make me gain weight though?
32:47
Drew
No, it actually does the opposite. People kind of lean out typically on it.
32:49
Stryker
You're going to become invisible after you get the shot, Jimmy. Typically. Your breast will become a negative A.
32:54
Adam
What happens if a guy were to take that?
32:56
Drew
Progesterone?
32:58
Stryker
What did you say?
32:58
Adam
You're sick. Just by chance, just wondering.
33:00
Stryker
I had one more question for you actually. Yeah. It's kind of a totally different question, but when I'm fooling around with my boyfriend, I find that it's really hard to get him off with my hand. I have to do it all with my hand. I have to give him a hand all the time.
33:16
Adam
I'll take this one, Drew.
33:17
Stryker
Go ahead.
33:17
Adam
No, I'm just kidding.
33:19
Drew
I bet you will.
33:20
Stryker
Your question?
33:21
Stryker
I mean, he's a man.
33:22
Drew
So you guys are going to go, and so?
33:24
Stryker
Normal.
33:24
Stryker
Yeah, but it's really annoying because I don't want to just do that all the time. He could do both to me and I'm perfectly fine.
33:31
Drew
Are you not having sex with him?
33:32
Stryker
No, I'm having sex with him too.
33:34
Stryker
But sometimes you're in the car, a hand is the only tool to time, correct? Yeah, exactly. Right, I know, I've been there. Are you using lubrication with the hand?
33:43
Stryker
No.
33:43
Stryker
That's the reason. Keep some Asterglide in the car.
33:46
Stryker
See, but I asked him that, I'm like, does it hurt? Is that what it is? And he's like, no.
33:50
Stryker
He's 17, he's too shy to say at this point, I think.
33:52
Stryker
He said it's just because I could do that myself and I can't do the other thing myself.
33:56
Drew
What do you want from us?
33:58
Stryker
I just want to know, is this normal?
34:02
Drew
Yes, it's a common thing.
34:06
Stryker
You know what, tell him to turn his hand upside down when he does it to himself, it'll feel like you're doing it. And also, Jason wants me to put you on hold to get your address, okay? I'm just kidding. Bye, Jamie. Have fun in Chicago.
34:21
Stryker
All right, bye.
34:22
Stryker
All right, Jason Schwartzman is here, I'm Stryker and Dr. Drew, and Jamie, 24, you're on Loveline. What's up?
34:28
Stryker
Hey, guys. My question is sort of in a New Yorker's opinion, basically. There was this guy that I was dating for a couple months. Go out, have a good time, but we weren't having sex. We weren't really doing anything physically. One night, we ended up having sex, though, and he never called me again after that.
34:49
Drew
Was, did he, how long, how long had you been dating before you had sex?
34:54
Stryker
About two and a half months, and we hadn't done anything physical.
34:57
Adam
Was his name Dave?
34:59
Stryker
Yeah.
35:01
Stryker
Whoa. Whoa.
35:05
Drew
How weird is that?
35:06
Stryker
Is his name Alex or Sam?
35:08
Stryker
No. That's really weird. Yeah, his name is Dave, but I'm just kind of wondering what that might be. And I mean, I called once, but I wasn't going to play the, you know.
35:19
Stryker
I have an opinion first.
35:20
Drew
What did he say when you caught and talked to him?
35:22
Stryker
He didn't. I called and I talked to his roommate. I'm like, hey, is, you know, is he there? And he's like, no, I'm like, okay, we told him I called. And he didn't call me back. So I'm like, all right, well, I'm not going to play the stupid game.
35:31
Stryker
Why don't we call him on the phone?
35:33
Stryker
Why don't we not?
35:34
Stryker
No, Sarah, you're not going out with him. He didn't call you anyways. Why don't we call him and find out the real story?
35:38
Adam
Yeah, why don't you let Jason have a little war with this Dave guy?
35:42
Stryker
No, I'm just, I'm kind of wondering. I mean, I could understand if, like, you know, maybe it was like we got drunk at a party or something. And it was just-
35:48
Drew
Well, did he, during that two and a half months, was he intent on having sex with you? Was there pressure for that to happen?
35:55
Stryker
You're thinking they'll conquer thing, kind of, once he got it?
35:57
Stryker
I'm done, he did it.
35:58
Drew
Yeah.
35:59
Stryker
No, no, not at all. And I mean-
36:00
Drew
That makes it even weirder that he wasn't interested in that.
36:04
Stryker
I mean, there were nights that we would actually stay the night together and he just never pushed it. And so-
36:09
Stryker
That dog is a gay homosexual.
36:11
Drew
Maybe just wasn't in this relationship. He was afraid that by sleeping, do we got in too far and just needed to get out. The whole thing is kind of weird, though. I gotta tell you, we'd have to talk to him to find out what's going on, because it's not a normal guy thing, what he's into.
36:23
Stryker
Okay, because I thought, you know, and he's like 30 years old, and I'm like, okay, a 30-year-old guy is not gonna sit around for two months because he likes my company.
36:29
Drew
Right.
36:30
Stryker
True.
36:31
Drew
This is a total loser.
36:32
Stryker
I think it's all about the conquer thing with this guy, even if it sounds weird.
36:36
Drew
Two and a half months?
36:36
Stryker
Yeah.
36:38
Stryker
He gets going, she's cute.
36:39
Drew
Yeah, but he didn't put any heat on. That's the whole. In fact, they slept together, but he didn't even make any moves.
36:46
Stryker
Maybe he's got something going on the side and realized he was in too deep at that point.
36:49
Drew
But you see, you're trying to figure it out because it doesn't make sense. You're rational. What the hell is that?
36:54
Stryker
That's not me.
36:55
Drew
We would have to talk to him.
36:55
Stryker
Unacceptable.
36:56
Stryker
Jamie, can we call him?
36:59
Stryker
Unacceptable.
37:00
Stryker
Okay.
37:00
Stryker
All right, then.
37:01
Stryker
He works early.
37:02
Drew
Oh, he does.
37:03
Stryker
All right, then. Thanks for calling up, though.
37:05
Drew
You're not going to understand this one unless he tells you, and he may not be able or willing to tell you.
37:09
Stryker
Okay, so it's not me.
37:10
Adam
No, he's a jerk. You're a wonderful girl.
37:13
Drew
Something unusual about him. You're fat.
37:16
Stryker
Drew, please. What? Bye, Jamie.
37:19
Adam
You're good.
37:22
Drew
You're welcome.
37:22
Stryker
All right, we got to take another break here. Thanks, you guys, for hanging out and being cool. I'm Stryker for Adam Corolla. Jason Schwartzman is here. If you want to talk to him about any of the movies, Rushmore or Slackers, which just came out, or his band, they'll be in here after 11 o'clock, Fan of Planet, and it's 1-800-LOVE-191, and more Loveline after this.
38:30
Drew
How you doing?
38:30
Stryker
Welcome back to Loveline. Can you hear me now?
38:32
Drew
Yeah. Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?
38:34
Stryker
This is Loveline, welcome back. What's up, Dougs? That's Jason Schwartzman, everyone. Dr. Drew is here, I'm Stryker, it's 1-800-LOVE-191.
38:41
Adam
What questions, what questions?
38:42
Stryker
Slack has came out this past Friday, that's what we're talking about a little bit tonight.
38:45
Adam
Yeah.
38:46
Stryker
If you want to speak to Jason about that, there's a band, they'll come in after 11 o'clock, nice young man we just met and they're passing out dates, not the fruit, actually.
38:55
Adam
The fruit date, the dry date.
38:57
Stryker
I've never had one, never will.
38:58
Stryker
What?
38:59
Drew
Stryker, we're that way.
39:01
Stryker
Yeah. I've never had coffee or water.
39:02
Drew
He's never had peanut butter, Jason.
39:04
Stryker
What?
39:04
Drew
Yeah. He's an idiot.
39:05
Stryker
No, I'm not. It's hard to see. Yeah, it's just like your friend in there, who he never had lettuce growing up or something. Sam's friend. Right, Sam?
39:14
Drew
So be it.
39:16
Adam
I don't know.
39:17
Stryker
Oh, Alex's friend. I'm sorry.
39:18
Adam
Whatever.
39:19
Stryker
Can't see in there. Whatever. All right. Let's grab some more calls here and see what the hell we can do.
39:23
Adam
Come on, challenge me.
39:25
Stryker
Brianna.
39:26
Stryker
Hello.
39:27
Stryker
What's up? You're 15 on Loveline.
39:29
Stryker
Hi. Well, like my brother is like hello controlling.
39:33
Drew
Hello controlling.
39:34
Stryker
Yeah.
39:35
Stryker
Is that like hella good if I know it out?
39:38
Stryker
Unacceptable.
39:39
Stryker
He's like, I don't know, like if a guy calls, he like yells at him and tells him not to call me and like I used to have a diary that he would read and he goes through all my stuff.
39:49
Drew
Do you ask him what he's up to?
39:51
Stryker
Yeah.
39:51
Stryker
I always yelled at him.
39:52
Drew
What does he say?
39:53
Stryker
He's like, he's just like, I don't know. He doesn't say anything about it.
39:57
Drew
He's protective.
39:58
Adam
What's your dad like? Right, Drew? Is that the right question?
40:02
Drew
No, not yet. Let's gamble about where the dad is. Why do you put up with this from him?
40:08
Stryker
I don't. I tell my mom, he tries to do it to my mom too.
40:12
Adam
What's your mom like? Was that the right question?
40:14
Drew
No.
40:14
Stryker
Do you have a dad in the house?
40:16
Stryker
No.
40:17
Drew
So he's taking care of these women.
40:19
Stryker
When did your dad rape you?
40:20
Drew
Did your dad do something awful to your mom and he had to come to her rescue at some point?
40:25
Stryker
Well, no.
40:26
Stryker
You're stealing Jason's thunder, Drew.
40:29
Stryker
My dad left him when I was little.
40:31
Stryker
Why?
40:33
Stryker
Because he was into drugs and stuff and mom got to force him.
40:36
Drew
Did your brother perhaps see him rough up your mom a little bit?
40:40
Stryker
No.
40:41
Drew
You're sure he wasn't busy rescuing her from this a-hole dad that you guys had to suffer through?
40:46
Stryker
I'm pretty sure.
40:47
Drew
Because that would kind of explain why he is so compulsive about this and why he can't. Jason, do your lines of drugs after the show, alright?
40:55
Adam
I'm just showing you right now, instead of at the sock, there's some drugs going on.
40:59
Stryker
Oh yeah, yeah.
41:00
Drew
But that kind of need to take Beek into control of and care for other people, it suggests that something really made him that way. The fact that he can't really respond to your realistic request for him to be less intrusive.
41:14
Stryker
Yeah, but what does she have to do to tell him, hey, maybe, I appreciate you doing this and looking out for me, but ease up a little bit.
41:21
Drew
But he's not going to be able to stop if indeed he was sort of the person throwing his body between.
41:24
Adam
There's always something alarming about a kid trying to act like an adult.
41:27
Drew
Yeah, it's not good. Parentalized children are not good for the kids. So, Brianna, if he can't control himself, you have to create consequences. If there are things that you and he enjoy together or things that you do for him, you have to start withdrawing these things until he gets the message.
41:41
Stryker
For instance, tell him, look, if you interrupt my call with the boy, I'm not going to sleep with you anymore.
41:49
Drew
Oh, yeah.
41:50
Stryker
Drew just got that through his skull.
41:53
Stryker
Oh, man.
41:54
Stryker
So that's kind of tough for her, then, yeah?
41:55
Drew
And mom doesn't step in for you?
41:57
Stryker
Right.
41:57
Stryker
She does. Like, if my mom has, like, I don't know, she yells at him and stuff and she...
42:02
Drew
Yeah, yelling will not work. She has to create consequences.
42:04
Stryker
She does that too, though.
42:05
Drew
Like what?
42:07
Stryker
I don't know, like, she'll say, like, I don't know, just like, I don't know.
42:12
Drew
Okay, I suspect she just yelled. She needs to take privileges away from him. You understand?
42:19
Stryker
Brianna, try to reason with your brother, but from what Drew is saying, it ain't going to happen because of something he saw growing up.
42:25
Drew
This is who he is.
42:26
Stryker
That's who he is, and he ain't going to be changed.
42:27
Drew
It's in his soul, it's deeply embedded in him, I suspect.
42:31
Stryker
Right. All right, let's talk to anyone named Hans we must speak to. You're 19, man.
42:35
Stryker
Yeah.
42:36
My girlfriend and me, we broke up like five months ago, and then Friday night, I ended up hanging out. It was like the first time we hung out since then. She's seen someone else. We both got kind of drunk. She had a time that she really did love me, and she was sorry about everything, and we ended up sleeping together. Then the next day, I talked to her, and she was kind of like, what really happened last night? I know we had sex, but I really don't remember what I said, and all that stuff. Now she's like, well, I'm definitely going to break up with this guy, but I really don't know if I want to be with you. I really don't know what I want.
43:09
Adam
I think she's confused anyway.
43:11
Drew
Yeah, she may be sort of chaotic and confused. On the other hand, she may be so deeply hurt by you're not responding to her intense feelings that she can't bring it upon herself to really let you know how she feels while she's awake, while she's not on drugs, lest you should reject or not reciprocate, that that is so scary, so awful to her, that she can't be honest with you about her real feelings.
43:35
Well, another thing was, while we were together, we were together for two years, and I had chemical dependency problems, like I get drunk all the time, get high all the time, stuff like that, and so another thing she always brings up is that she loves me, but she feels like she shouldn't love me.
43:49
Drew
Well, she can't unless you do something about your drug addiction.
43:52
Well, yeah, I totally have. I've gone through...
43:54
Stryker
Wait a minute, you just got drunk the other night.
43:55
Drew
You got loaded last night. What are you talking about? Are you out of your mind? She's probably working an Al-Anon program that's sort of shaky and she gets loaded with you. It's bad for you. You're in no shape to be with someone who endorses that kind of behavior if you're a drug addict.
44:13
Stryker
But it was only a 12-pack.
44:15
Drew
Ridiculous.
44:15
Well, yeah, I didn't get drunk. She got drunk pretty much.
44:18
Drew
Yeah. I understand at 19, this doesn't make sense to you, but so long as you're using drugs that activate your reward system, your disease is completely active and progressing. Right. So you're well under way, and it's probably smarter for not to get back involved with you.
44:32
Stryker
Hans, well, you're talking about her. Hans, what about you? Do you want to get back with this girl? I mean, if I was you, I wouldn't.
44:39
Drew
He wants a hostage, somebody to help let them keep going.
44:43
Yeah, I totally thought about it too, because she totally was what enabled me during a relationship.
44:47
Drew
That's right. You're both heading back down to where you started from. Unless you both have really changed and have been changed for a couple of years, this is not going to be good for either of you.
44:58
There's just no way I could really make this work.
45:00
Drew
Yeah, you could really work on an intense program in the recovery, 12-step.
45:04
Stryker
And then see if you still like her, and I doubt you will then.
45:06
Drew
Listen to your sponsor's input, and she can go to an Al-Anon program, listen to her sponsor's input, and after six months, you maybe get back together.
45:12
Well, she really doesn't drink that often at all.
45:16
Stryker
You are king of excuses, Hans.
45:17
Drew
And denial.
45:18
Adam
But then when she does drink, she gets so drunk.
45:20
Drew
I'm not saying she's an alcoholic, I'm saying she's a co-dependent and needs to work a program herself.
45:26
I definitely think she has an eating disorder.
45:28
Drew
Well, like many good co's, they have those kinds of things going on.
45:31
Adam
Just one more exit on the freeway.
45:32
Drew
Yeah, that's right. This is, you know, do as you please.
45:35
Stryker
Maybe work on the sobriety first and then try to get a lady after that.
45:38
Drew
You're going to have to do what you're going to have to do before you sort of understand these things.
45:41
Adam
Unless she's super hot.
45:44
Drew
We're big knockers.
45:46
Stryker
Is she Hans?
45:47
Yeah, she's super hot.
45:49
Stryker
Whatever, dude, don't go to the filth shop.
45:51
Stryker
Shoot up, snort coke, take you.
45:53
Stryker
Hang out, man.
45:55
Stryker
Come to my house.
45:56
Stryker
This is gonna be great.
45:57
Drew
You hear all that?
45:58
Adam
Yeah.
45:59
Drew
I mean, that's how unreal those relationships are. She likes, is super fused and enmeshed with him, but only because really he's an addict.
46:06
Adam
Right.
46:06
Stryker
And she has an eating disorder.
46:08
Drew
Because of all the arousal she could provide him and allow him to go along down his path of addiction.
46:12
Stryker
Seems normal.
46:12
Adam
It's not that hard.
46:13
Drew
She has a lot of emptiness, and he's not certainly interested in her as a person.
46:16
Adam
Relationships are pretty cut and dry, aren't they? It's not that difficult.
46:20
Drew
On the surface, the basic path, but they get complexity digs.
46:25
Stryker
Meeting the person is easy. Continuing it is the hard part. Do we have time to take another quick one?
46:29
Drew
Or not.
46:30
Stryker
No?
46:30
Stryker
What?
46:31
Stryker
No? Okay, we're going to take another break. It is time for break as Anderson says. More Loveline coming up with Jason Schwartzman, Stryker, and Dr. Drew Honam.
46:38
Stryker
All right, guys, bottom line, here's the deal. Looking to hook up.
46:41
Stryker
Sick of wasting time with the wrong person.
46:43
Stryker
One call is all you need to make.
46:44
Stryker
Call the Dateline.
46:45
Stryker
The Dateline.
46:45
Adam
877-889-DATE.
46:51
Stryker
Loveline with Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew.
46:53
Stryker
1-800-LOVE-1-9-1.
46:57
Stryker
We'll be right back.
47:30
Stryker
All right, we are back, and now we have a room full of people.
47:33
Stryker
What's up, dude?
47:35
Stryker
A brim full of ash in a room full of people.
47:37
Adam
Phantom Planet in the house.
47:38
Stryker
Hi, Jay. I think you're doing great.
47:40
Adam
Thanks, Alex. We got Alex and Sam in here, and we're ready to rock.
47:43
Stryker
This is Alex.
47:44
Stryker
Hi.
47:44
Stryker
This is Sam. What's going on?
47:45
Stryker
You guys are both from LA.?
47:47
Stryker
Oh, yeah.
47:47
Stryker
Along with Jason? But you didn't know each other in high school, or you did?
47:50
Adam
Well, Alex and I were Cub Scouts together in elementary school.
47:54
Stryker
You want to admit you're in Cub Scouts in elementary school?
47:55
Stryker
Yeah, and my mom was the den mother.
47:57
Stryker
Yes. And who brought the oranges at the soccer game?
48:00
Adam
Liberty's mom.
48:01
Stryker
Oh, my gosh.
48:03
Adam
It's a joke.
48:04
Stryker
But you started the band when you were 14.
48:06
Adam
Yeah.
48:06
Stryker
The band Phantom Planet. We're talking about Jason Schwartzman, who's I'm speaking to right now, along with Alex and Sam. Yep. And then you went to Pally High.
48:12
Stryker
Oh, yeah, I did.
48:13
Stryker
That's where I went.
48:14
Stryker
Big ups, Pally. What's up?
48:15
Stryker
Jesus. And you went to-
48:17
Stryker
I went to Buckley.
48:18
Stryker
You went to Buckley. And then how'd all you guys come together, so to speak?
48:22
Stryker
I met them through Jacques, who's not here right now. Okay. He met Jason in a music store very randomly.
48:27
Stryker
Okay.
48:28
Stryker
Just playing like a wah-wah pedal. Jason, you probably tell it better than I.
48:30
Adam
Well, I just- I was in the band. Darren was like the real first- we formed the band together. And in the eighth grade, I told my school that I had this amazing band, like we could play at the graduation thing. Right. I didn't have a band at all. So I remember Alex could sing. So I called Al. He came over. The three of us formed a threesome. We formed a threesome. Didn't have it. It was a very key word. And then we were this band. And then one day I met Jacques, the guitar player who's not here at a music store, asked him to come play with the band. He said he couldn't, but his best friend Sam played guitar. Right. Sam came down to practice. Jacques came along with him. History.
49:06
Stryker
You kept a fan, but you didn't get Jacques, right?
49:08
Adam
Huh?
49:09
Stryker
Jacques is not in the band.
49:10
Adam
Jacques isn't.
49:11
Stryker
Oh, he is. Where is this guy?
49:12
Adam
I don't know. But yeah, so that's how the band formed. All right.
49:18
Stryker
Well, cool. If you guys want to speak to these guys, you can call Loveline and ask him anything you want. Anything. Let's check out a track right now called California, song number one. Oh, wait, hold on. They're yelling at me.
49:29
Adam
Let's get a question. Should we get a fan question?
49:31
Stryker
We will take a question here. And yeah, let's go to Phantom Planet question. Steve, you're 18. Thanks for waiting, man. You're on Loveline.
49:37
Stryker
Hey, Steve.
49:38
Stryker
What's up, Steve?
49:38
Stryker
Hey, what's going on, guys?
49:39
Hey, I just want to say, I just want to ask the band, what kind of influences they had growing up and stuff like that?
49:46
Stryker
I could give you like three of mine.
49:47
Adam
Let's go three bands each.
49:49
Stryker
Yeah, top three bands, all you guys. Tell me right now.
49:51
Stryker
Wow, top three bands, Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, and maybe modern bands like The Hives are really awesome. I love The Hives.
50:00
Drew
They have the flaming lips on your PR.
50:02
Adam
Oh, yeah. Okay, go, Sam.
50:05
Stryker
I say that The Beatles obviously, yeah, and the Beach Boys and The Who.
50:11
Drew
Wow.
50:12
Adam
Well, he took all my, I'll just fill in the blanks with NWA, Dr. Drew, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, Minor Threat, and Nirvana. Nirvana.
50:25
Drew
We grew up on K-pop.
50:27
Stryker
I just have to go, The Love Line.
50:29
Drew
Whoa. You're from way back.
50:32
Stryker
I grew up on this.
50:33
Adam
It's such an honor to be on this program. You gotta understand, we are from Los Angeles. We're 14.
50:37
Stryker
I feel two feet tall now because I'm almost the same age. Well, a little older, and I was listening, too, and I'm sure they were hoping Corolla. I'm sorry, Corolla's not here, boys. No, no, you are.
50:44
Stryker
Great. You're a real great singer. Nirvana.
50:46
Stryker
All right.
50:47
Stryker
All right. Josephus, catch ya today.
50:49
Stryker
Hey.
50:50
Stryker
Hello?
50:51
Stryker
Yeah.
50:51
Yeah, I have one more question for Stryker.
50:53
Adam
Uh-oh.
50:54
Stryker
Hey, Stryker, I have one question.
50:57
When did K-Rock get so lame over the past two, three years?
51:00
Adam
And cut.
51:02
Stryker
No, uh, what don't you like?
51:04
Well, how come it started getting all, like, heavy and, like, hard and everyone kind of got kind of got all mad at the world? And what happened to, like, you know, Radiohead and the Breeders, you know, like...
51:13
Drew
You're gay. Okay, Drew, please.
51:15
Stryker
Oh, my God.
51:16
Stryker
Okay, I will answer that question because a lot of stations like K-Rock play the same kind of music all over the place that are rock. If the Breeders put out something, in my opinion, that was spectacular, it would be on. Music right now is just, I mean, Linkin Park sold 5 million records, in my opinion, that's on fire. That's, it's good.
51:34
Drew
Steve's getting old.
51:35
Stryker
No, he's not.
51:36
Drew
Yes, he is.
51:36
Stryker
He's only like 18.
51:37
Drew
But he's an old 18 year old, that's what puts his side up.
51:39
Stryker
I don't know.
51:40
Stryker
It's all cyclical, man. It'll come back. Whatever you want, just wait a couple years.
51:44
Drew
That's right. Music is music.
51:46
Stryker
Yeah, I mean, we play Coldplay. They're from down the street from Radiohead, and we're playing, God, I had the whole week off, now I'm drawing a blank on all the bands we play. Star Sailor, another good band, so up yours, Steve. Okay, it's 1-8.
51:58
Stryker
Who cares?
52:01
Stryker
Thank you. All right, you guys ready with this song California in there? No, they're not ready. Let's take another call.
52:06
Stryker
When do we do shout outs?
52:07
Stryker
We can do shout outs in just a couple minutes. Reggie, 23 on Loveline.
52:11
Stryker
Hey, guys, how's it going? Hi. This is Reggie Cape.
52:14
Drew
Oh, my God.
52:17
Stryker
It's Darren from Phantom Planet. That's our band. I'm sorry, I had to do it.
52:21
Adam
How are you, buddy?
52:21
Stryker
How are you guys doing?
52:24
Stryker
Hey, Darren, Darren, is there something you want to ask us?
52:28
Stryker
I wanted to ask Jason really quick if he could do his Allison Chan impersonation.
52:33
Stryker
You got to do it.
52:33
Adam
I can't do it.
52:34
Stryker
You got to do it.
52:35
Stryker
But stay back a little from the mic.
52:36
Adam
Which one? I Stay Away or Rooster?
52:38
Stryker
I Stay Away.
52:42
Stryker
Darren, are you a virgin?
52:43
Stryker
No.
52:44
Stryker
Okay.
52:44
Stryker
Thank you.
52:46
Stryker
I Stay Away.
52:51
Stryker
You can hang up on me if you want.
52:53
Stryker
Bye Darren. I Stay Away.
52:54
Stryker
See you at practice.
52:56
Stryker
Oh, good God. Let's go to this one. This is directly for Alex. Go ahead, Scott. You're 21.
53:03
Stryker
Yeah, hey, question for Dr. Drew.
53:05
Stryker
You're supposed to play along with me.
53:07
Stryker
I'm supposed to play along with you?
53:08
Drew
Go ahead, Scott.
53:09
Stryker
Go, go.
53:10
My question is that I can't have an erection for more than three minutes and then I don't come and then I have to urinate like immediately afterwards.
53:21
Drew
After, have you always been this way?
53:25
Yeah, ever since the first time I had sex, I've never been able to do that.
53:28
Stryker
Never been able to come inside a girl.
53:30
Drew
How about when you masturbate?
53:31
Yeah, I can when I masturbate, yeah.
53:33
Drew
You can sustain an erection while you masturbate and you can ejaculate. You just can't do it when you're inside a woman.
53:39
Exactly, but when I masturbate, it's like my penis isn't like fully hard.
53:45
Drew
Alright, and are you on medication?
53:47
Yeah.
53:47
Drew
What are you taking?
53:48
ORAP and Adderall.
53:50
Drew
Alright, well there's your problem.
53:53
What medication?
53:54
Drew
Both of them.
53:55
Stryker
Both of them, yeah.
53:57
Drew
So the stimulants make it difficult sometimes to have an erection, so.
54:00
Well, I haven't been taking stimulants that long. This has been going on for about a year or two and I've been taking ORAP for probably about three or four years.
54:08
Drew
So it must be the ORAP then.
54:09
Okay.
54:10
Drew
So there you go. But that is a common side effect of medication, what you're describing.
54:14
Okay.
54:14
Adam
All right. Stop the ORAP.
54:15
Drew
Talk to your doctor about it. But are you, what are you, ADD? Is that your problem?
54:19
Stryker
Yeah, and Tourette's.
54:21
Drew
Okay.
54:21
Stryker
Oh, come on, now let me hear it.
54:23
Drew
What, how is your, is your Tourette's just tics and that kind of thing?
54:28
Stryker
Huh?
54:29
Drew
Is your Tourette's just tics or is it?
54:30
Stryker
Son of a bitch!
54:31
Stryker
It's not vocal tics.
54:32
Drew
It's not vocal tics.
54:33
Stryker
It's just motor tics.
54:34
Drew
Yeah. And listen, talk to your doctor about this because you shouldn't have to suffer these kinds of side effects. They're important and you need to be able to live your life normally. Yeah. I'm a rapist.
54:45
Stryker
Easy, Alex.
54:46
Stryker
Wow.
54:47
Stryker
Who said that?
54:47
Stryker
I didn't say it.
54:49
Stryker
Did he say that? He has Tourette's.
54:50
Stryker
It's a sampler.
54:51
Stryker
Yeah, exactly. Alright, let's take another call and then play a song from Phantom Planet.
54:57
Stryker
Leah?
54:57
Stryker
Genius.
54:58
Stryker
Hey, what's up?
54:59
Stryker
What's up? You're 19 on Loveline.
55:01
Stryker
First of all, I was calling to say that K-Rock rocks because that guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
55:05
Adam
Thank you.
55:05
Stryker
Exactly.
55:07
Stryker
For sure. And then I wanted to know if Jason would be my Valentine.
55:10
Adam
Oh, well.
55:12
Stryker
That's why they put me on the air. I guess K-Rock rocks wasn't enough.
55:15
Adam
Look, you know, I got a little lady that I'm madly in love with, so I already got one.
55:19
Stryker
You might have to settle for me, Leah.
55:22
Adam
But Alex is.
55:23
Stryker
Oh, for sure.
55:24
Adam
Just ripped. And he would love to be your Valentine.
55:26
Stryker
Yeah, holla back, youngin. You know what I'm saying?
55:30
Adam
His ass is hella good.
55:32
Stryker
Leah, you sound sweet as can be. We'll put you on hold and give you Sam's number, okay? And Alex's number, actually. Right on. Okay, thanks.
55:40
Drew
Thank you. You guys are that easy, huh?
55:42
Stryker
Well, yeah. I was actually going to promote our show at Aaron's Records on the 26th of February.
55:47
Stryker
Hey, we're going to get to that stuff.
55:48
Drew
So you're going to have her meet you there? Is that how it's going to work?
55:51
Stryker
Well, yeah.
55:51
Drew
I see.
55:52
Stryker
All right, here's the plan.
55:53
Stryker
We're going to play a song from Phantom Planet. After the song, we'll tell you where they're going to be playing, then we'll take more calls, and it's all good like that.
56:01
Drew
You know what?
56:01
Adam
This is crazy. Our song's about to get played on K-Record.
56:03
Stryker
This is amazing.
56:04
Adam
This is the moment we've been waiting for our whole lives.
56:06
Stryker
Oh my god.
56:07
Adam
Cool.
56:08
Stryker
Well, I'm glad I'm part of it. Here you go, you guys, from the band Phantom Planet. I'm going to play track number one. It's also on the Orange County Stand track, I believe. This is called California. Good job, you guys. Sounded really good. That was California from Phantom Planet, and they're here in the studio, and the video is on MTV2 right now.
59:34
Stryker
Yeah.
59:35
Stryker
And Alex, you saw it today, didn't you?
59:36
Stryker
I just saw it last night at 4 o'clock in the morning.
59:39
Drew
Yes.
59:40
Stryker
What are you doing up there, man? What was I doing up?
59:42
Stryker
Yeah, what are we doing?
59:43
Drew
Tivo, Tivo.
59:44
Stryker
Yeah, Tivo, man. No, I just stay up really late.
59:47
Stryker
Good, as do I. You guys are going to be playing at the USC campus on the 26th of February at 12 p.m. and then Aaron Records or something at 730.
59:55
Stryker
Is that right? Yeah.
59:56
Stryker
Is that all right? Then the 27th, you're playing the UCLA campus. Yeah, that's right. Then you're playing in Long Beach that same night at Fingerprints.
1:00:04
Stryker
Whatever you say.
1:00:05
Stryker
On the 27th. The 28th, you're playing Rhino Records. Hey, you're coming to Stryker's house on the 1st of March. Those tickets are free.
1:00:11
Stryker
Stryker, that's not on the schedule, actually.
1:00:14
Stryker
Whoops, I'm sorry.
1:00:16
Stryker
That's okay.
1:00:17
Stryker
March 5th, you're going to be up at ASU and then the 6th, you're going to Berkeley. Man, you guys are going all over the place.
1:00:21
Adam
Yeah, the record comes out on 26th, so it's a big rock week.
1:00:24
Stryker
Which is a Tuesday, by the way.
1:00:26
Adam
Yeah, Tuesday.
1:00:27
Stryker
So look for it then. 1-800-LOVE-191. Anything you want to say about the album before we move on?
1:00:32
Adam
It's a good rock album. It's three guitars, drums, and some bass, and some good stuff. I hope you enjoy it.
1:00:39
Stryker
And the first couple copies have a bonus disc that we just added for the people who buy the album early.
1:00:46
Adam
Cool.
1:00:46
Stryker
With new songs on it and stuff.
1:00:48
Adam
And it's cheap.
1:00:49
Stryker
I think they're also giving away some tickets to some show that we're playing in, I forgot where.
1:00:54
Stryker
Secret Show.
1:00:54
Stryker
Secret Show. Can't really announce that yet, but oops.
1:00:58
Stryker
All right. Well, I'm sure we'll get to that. Or just go to their website. Kara?
1:01:01
Stryker
Hello?
1:01:02
Stryker
What's up? You're 20 and Loveline.
1:01:03
Stryker
Yes. I'm here with my friend Jenna. Hello.
1:01:06
Stryker
And since I'm just totally inept, I'm going to let her do the questions. I'm also quite nervous.
1:01:13
Stryker
Wow, Jenna, English accent?
1:01:14
Stryker
Yes, indeed.
1:01:15
Stryker
Oh, it's so hot.
1:01:17
Adam
Are you from Sussex?
1:01:18
Stryker
Thank you.
1:01:19
Stryker
No, I'm from Dartford.
1:01:22
Stryker
Dartford is outside London.
1:01:23
Drew
Okay.
1:01:24
Stryker
I think that's all that matters, because people know what London is.
1:01:27
Drew
Get to the question, woman.
1:01:28
Stryker
Okay, sorry. We need some guy advice. Our friend Christine is extremely smel-o-ed. Smello.
1:01:38
Adam
Smello is awesome.
1:01:39
Stryker
Smello.
1:01:40
Stryker
That's an English candy, right?
1:01:42
Drew
Smitten with a fellow.
1:01:43
Stryker
It's marshmallows and s'mores mixed together.
1:01:45
Stryker
Your accent is so fake, by the way.
1:01:48
Stryker
My accent is fake?
1:01:49
Adam
No, it's so real, man.
1:01:51
Stryker
Oh, really?
1:01:52
Stryker
You like it, don't you?
1:01:53
Stryker
See?
1:01:54
Stryker
I just said it was real.
1:01:57
Stryker
We need advice because she's really, really smitten with the Sello. We think he's unattainable, and we're really convinced, and once she figures it out, which will be fairly soon, she's going to be heartbroken. But we need to figure out what to do to help her get over such a thing, because we have this horrible feeling that she's going to let loose and become really uninhibited sexually and also...
1:02:18
Stryker
Liar whore, liar whore, you know it.
1:02:21
Drew
Follow through, follow through.
1:02:22
Stryker
No, no, I can't take any more of that question. That accent is killing me, sorry guys. Yeah, it's the worst.
1:02:29
Drew
Let's see if she can spit out the question, all right?
1:02:31
Stryker
Kara?
1:02:33
Drew
In a sentence, what is the question? In a sentence.
1:02:36
Stryker
Again, go. Do you think a fellow is unattainable? And if so, what can we do to help our friend to get over such a thing?
1:02:42
Drew
Who is the guy? This is the punchline.
1:02:45
Stryker
I wouldn't do that, it wouldn't be a secret now, would it?
1:02:47
Adam
Yeah, but that's the punchline here, so I've had enough of that.
1:02:49
Stryker
Lizette?
1:02:50
Yeah.
1:02:50
Stryker
What's up? You're 23.
1:02:51
Stryker
Yeah. Go ahead.
1:02:53
Am I next?
1:02:54
Stryker
Yeah.
1:02:54
Oh my God. Okay, cool. I'll try to keep from not shivering because I'm calling you from a payphone.
1:03:00
Stryker
You okay?
1:03:01
Yeah, I'm fine. It's cool.
1:03:04
Stryker
Ask away, please.
1:03:05
Go. Hello?
1:03:07
Stryker
Yeah. The show is going down the tubes now. My first hour was good. I'm never going to get to do the show unless you're better, Lizette.
1:03:12
Stryker
Go.
1:03:13
Okay. My name is Lizette and I'm 23. I'm calling from Santa Monica. My question is that I moved to California because I want to be a filmmaker. But basically, I ran away from home because I wasn't happy with my situation. I came to California thinking everything was going to change. But actually, things have not been worse but they haven't been different. They've just been the same only in a different location.
1:03:35
Drew
What was the problem at home?
1:03:36
The problem at home was that my mom was an overbearing bee.
1:03:38
Drew
Well, you're 23 years old. Why were you living at home?
1:03:41
Caller
Because, let's see, I was going to a private school, a private university, and I couldn't afford housing. And then me and my mom got in a fight and I ended up moving into housing. And halfway through the semester, I dropped out. And the day my 21st birthday was junior, I just left home. I just ran away because there was a guy in California that I fell in love with. And once I got here, he was like, Oh, you thought we were going to be together, like now. So then he kind of dumped me and then I stayed because I wanted to be a filmmaker.
1:04:04
Stryker
A co-corp.
1:04:05
Drew
Thank you. Luzette, you don't sound like you're capable of managing your own life. You're 23. Yeah, I'm not kidding. You go from this sort of enmeshed, controlling environment where your parents are over-involved in your life to this sort of fantasy world where other people are going to take care of you. And if they can't, you're going to magically become something successful.
1:04:27
Caller
Well, it wasn't the fact that I thought I was going to be successful at first. I came to California because I thought my life wouldn't be better.
1:04:33
Drew
All right. Well, then start having a life. Get a job, get an apartment.
1:04:39
Caller
Oh, don't talk to me about jobs. I've had like 10 different jobs since I've been out here. I mean, it's always been successful.
1:04:44
Stryker
Hold on one sec. I know exactly what's going to happen to Luzette. You guys can back me up being from here. In about three weeks, she'll probably get a job. Maybe a crazy girl's dancing. She'll make good money. Then a man comes in. He's a producer, in quotes. Come to my casting couch. We're doing a movie next week. You'll get a thousand bucks. Porn. After that. Now she has money, but now she's going to be really loopy. Am I on the right path?
1:05:07
Stryker
I hope not.
1:05:08
Drew
She's not going to go. Because somebody actually could go down that path. When she arrived here, the guy wouldn't go, Oh, I didn't know you were actually going to stay with me.
1:05:14
Stryker
Luzette?
1:05:15
Drew
Yeah.
1:05:16
Stryker
Was I right or no?
1:05:17
Caller
No, you're totally wrong. That's not the aspect of the film that I want to be in. The only point is that I just can't see my whole thing. I can't seem to get a control of my life at all in any aspect, relationship, education, financially. And I don't want to go back home because I'm going to feel like a failure. And if I go back home, I'm going to end up marrying my ex-boyfriend and having a kid and living with my brother.
1:05:36
Stryker
Oh my god, I'm going to hang myself, Luzette.
1:05:38
Caller
Exactly.
1:05:40
Stryker
Can I ask Jason a question, by the way?
1:05:42
Drew
What?
1:05:42
Caller
Can I ask Jason a question?
1:05:44
Adam
Yeah.
1:05:45
Caller
Okay. Is he like there now?
1:05:46
Drew
Yeah.
1:05:46
Adam
Yeah.
1:05:47
Caller
Hey Jason, my name is Luzette. We actually met once.
1:05:49
Stryker
He threw me a junkie.
1:05:51
Caller
It landed in my eye, but you apologize.
1:05:53
Drew
Landed in her eye.
1:05:53
Adam
I'm sorry.
1:05:55
Drew
She dropped the suit. Everything's going to be fine.
1:05:57
Caller
This is the thing. I have a script that I want to sell. If you get the script called That Changes Everything by your manager over at UTA, don't throw it away. Okay.
1:06:05
Drew
He can't read it, Luzette. He cannot read it.
1:06:09
Stryker
That's the way these things work.
1:06:11
Drew
He can't read it, right?
1:06:12
Stryker
You can't read these things. Jason can't read it in general.
1:06:14
Drew
No, but what happens if you read it, then it's the whole craziness, right?
1:06:19
Adam
I don't know.
1:06:19
Stryker
Oh my God, Luzette, you're not going to be a failure.
1:06:22
Adam
I feel bad that I threw a thumbstick in her eye.
1:06:24
Drew
Luzette needs to establish a life. She needs a home base. You need good friends. You need a stable job. You need a stable living environment. If you'd like then to get involved in some training, or maybe even one of those jobs could be starting as a gopher in a studio and really hustling and learning the things from the ground up.
1:06:43
Stryker
If Season 3 comes around and it has the band, Luzette.
1:06:46
Drew
She's in.
1:06:46
Stryker
Call Dr. Drew. Right.
1:06:48
Drew
Exactly. But she's missing the basics. She has no foundation. Work on the foundation. Then you'll have something to work from.
1:06:58
Stryker
Hold on. I gotta go back to her real quick. Luzette?
1:07:01
Stryker
Yeah? Are you okay?
1:07:03
Caller
Well, this is basically the same thing my mom's telling me, but I mean...
1:07:06
Stryker
Hold on. I'm just saying. Listen to what Drew said. Try to comprehend and quit thinking of your next ten sentences.
1:07:11
Adam
How can she hear at the station right now if she's in a payphone?
1:07:14
Drew
They hear it in the receiver. But I'm not your mom.
1:07:17
Caller
I know you're not my mom. But try to hold a steady job. Every job that I've had has gone fired for some specific reason. Either I get a short, you know, I miss the part.
1:07:26
Drew
Then there must be no stable jobs in Los Angeles and that magically everyone who gets a job gets fired very quickly. Or you've had some role to play in that and you ought to look very carefully at that.
1:07:36
Caller
All I can say is that I'm very lucky I haven't died out here because I am, it's really lonely, but it seems like everybody in LA is like on cracker. They have like their own agenda. You know, it's really hard to keep friends out here. I'm from Miami, that's the whole thing.
1:07:48
Drew
Lizette, you've got to get a foundation. You need a stable structure in your life. Or no one's going to hire you in any capacity because they're not going to trust that you can fulfill your job. Your life is not together right now.
1:08:02
Stryker
Why don't you hire a Drew? You need an assistant, you're telling me?
1:08:05
Drew
No?
1:08:05
Stryker
Okay. All right, we've got to take another break. I'm Stryker, feebly attempting to host the next 40 minutes of Loveline along with Drew and Phantom Planet is here. More of those guys coming up next on Loveline.
1:08:54
Drew
Anderson.
1:08:55
Stryker
Got him. So Jimmy, we were playing at the Super Bowl party the other day. Live and direct. They're good. Who just asked me? Oh, you did. Drew said that. Drew, what do you care? He's good. Very good. Band at Arizona. All right. I'm Stryker in for Corolla. This is Loveline and Dr. Drew is here in the band Phantom Planet, Jason Schwartzman, Sam Farrar. Farrar.
1:09:16
Stryker
And Alex Greenwald.
1:09:17
Stryker
Alex Greenwald.
1:09:17
Stryker
You can call me Alexander.
1:09:19
Stryker
Is that a law firm?
1:09:20
Stryker
Yes.
1:09:21
Stryker
Alexander and-
1:09:22
Stryker
My middle name is actually Slash.
1:09:24
Drew
It is?
1:09:25
Stryker
Yeah. But we won't get into that.
1:09:26
Stryker
We'll get into that later a little bit.
1:09:28
Stryker
We played a song- I actually made Drew laugh by the way. I don't know. That was awesome.
1:09:33
Stryker
He rarely laughs by the way. We got him. Let's go to a Phantom Planet question here. Kelly.
1:09:39
Stryker
Yes.
1:09:40
Stryker
What's up? Welcome to Loveline.
1:09:41
Stryker
Hi, Kelly.
1:09:42
Stryker
Hi, Kelly. Hi. I had a relationship question for you guys. I'm dating a guy that's about your age. He's 23. He's a bartender. I've been seeing him for about six months now, and I just recently asked if we could spend more time together. We had been seeing each other about once a week going out. When I asked him if we could see each other more, he kind of backed off, and he kind of said that he was too busy with school and work and that he wasn't willing to give me more time. So I'm just wondering why after spending six months together, he wouldn't want to go further in the relationship.
1:10:25
Drew
Because he doesn't want to.
1:10:27
Stryker
Really?
1:10:28
Stryker
Yeah. I mean, it's a strange age, I think. You don't know whether you want to be single or...
1:10:35
Stryker
And there's always the B and B, the bigger and better.
1:10:37
Drew
He has his reason. Thank God he was honest with you.
1:10:40
Stryker
Yeah. I'm glad that he was honest.
1:10:42
Drew
And maybe he will get to a point where he wants to have some more. He didn't say, I don't want to see you anymore.
1:10:46
Stryker
Right. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to see him anymore.
1:10:48
Drew
That's cool. That's good. That's a good... That's a healthy exchange. Totally healthy. He's told you where he is. You put your cards on the table and it may not work out. Much better than when you force yourselves into taking something neither of you, that one of you doesn't want, and end up six months later in the sort of quasi-relationship that's miserable for both of you.
1:11:07
Stryker
Right.
1:11:08
Stryker
Yeah, that's fine.
1:11:09
Stryker
Well, thank you. And I also have a question for the Phantom Planet member that's not there. Is Jacques single?
1:11:16
Stryker
Jacques is single.
1:11:18
Stryker
He is single.
1:11:19
Drew
Yes, yes. So, see, see.
1:11:20
Stryker
I have a roommate that...
1:11:22
Drew
Roommate. You're going to be free in a couple of weeks.
1:11:25
Stryker
I am.
1:11:26
Stryker
That's right. I'd be more than happy to date any of you. But she actually met, she's good friends with Melissa Joan Hart, and Melissa Joan Hart, I told her that she would be perfect for Jacques, and she just recently saw you guys play at the Rock Sea the other night.
1:11:41
Stryker
Oh, wow.
1:11:42
Stryker
That was a fun show.
1:11:43
Stryker
She'd love to meet you, but...
1:11:45
Stryker
Kelly.
1:11:45
Drew
Well, where can they meet you?
1:11:46
Stryker
Kelly, Kelly, how does your foot feel? You're dropping names.
1:11:49
Stryker
I know, I know. She...
1:11:51
Stryker
You know, Dustin Hoffman once told me...
1:11:54
Stryker
Sorry, never done it.
1:11:55
Drew
So, guys, where are they going to meet you?
1:11:57
Stryker
I'll put her on hold. Yeah. Where can they find you?
1:11:59
Stryker
We can... Well, let's meet up at, I don't know, say, Aaron's Records at 7.30, February 26th.
1:12:06
Stryker
That's exactly what I'm talking about.
1:12:08
Stryker
Kim. Kim?
1:12:11
Stryker
Yeah? Hi, you're 15. Yeah. First off, I want to say, Phantom Planet, you're awesome. Thanks.
1:12:17
Adam
Thank you very much.
1:12:18
Stryker
And I just saw Flockers the other night, and that was a great movie.
1:12:21
Adam
Thank you very much.
1:12:24
Stryker
Okay, well, my situation is, like, for the past three years or so, my brother has been getting into marijuana and alcohol, and, like, he hasn't been able to get off of it.
1:12:40
Drew
How old is he?
1:12:41
Stryker
He's 19.
1:12:43
Drew
And is there alcoholism in your family?
1:12:46
Stryker
No, but we are both adopted.
1:12:49
Drew
So there probably is.
1:12:50
Stryker
Yeah, I mean, I've read some background on them, but, like...
1:12:54
Drew
How could you say no and then say yes?
1:12:57
Stryker
I don't know, I'm sorry.
1:12:58
Drew
Let's be honest about this. He has an alcoholic biological parent.
1:13:01
Stryker
Yeah.
1:13:02
Drew
So he inherited the gene for this disease.
1:13:04
Stryker
Yeah.
1:13:04
Drew
It's starting to express itself.
1:13:06
Stryker
Yep.
1:13:06
Drew
You want to know what to do?
1:13:08
Stryker
No, well, see, also, he has gotten in a lot of trouble with the law, like, he did some vandalism at some schools. He crashed into someone's wall drinking while driving. He's on three years' probation now, and, like, he has to, he goes into drug tests even though he smokes. He sometimes comes, he somehow comes out clean.
1:13:33
Drew
Right. What's the question?
1:13:35
Stryker
Like, he's also really abusive to me.
1:13:38
Stryker
Physically?
1:13:40
Stryker
Huh?
1:13:40
Drew
Emotionally or physically? How does he abuse you?
1:13:43
Stryker
Emotionally, because he'll call me fat or call me a bitch or something, and he's almost raped me before. He's tried several times.
1:13:51
Drew
Wow. And why don't you call the cops when he does stuff like that? Yes.
1:13:54
Stryker
I've called the cops, and they've just questioned me. They haven't done anything.
1:13:59
Drew
And can you get away from him, live somewhere else?
1:14:01
Stryker
I've lived with my friends for a while, and then I come home, and it's just even worse.
1:14:06
Drew
This is home with your parents?
1:14:08
Stryker
Yeah, with my parents.
1:14:09
Stryker
Well, why aren't your parents doing anything about this?
1:14:13
Stryker
Like, I'll tell them, but they don't believe me.
1:14:15
Stryker
How can they not believe you if he's on drugs, he's been arrested, he's crashed the car into a house, and he's messed up schools?
1:14:22
Stryker
I don't know. I mean, they know he smokes, and my mom even goes to the... She orders home drug tests and...
1:14:32
Drew
All right, listen. You can't be his probation officer, you can't be his prison guard, but you can put a lock on your door. Put a nice big bolt lock or some sort of a barrel lock on your door.
1:14:46
Stryker
Yeah, I have a deadbolt on my door.
1:14:47
Drew
All right, deadbolt, and stay out of his crosshairs. Just stay the hell away from this guy. Get out of the house as much as you can, and stay away from this guy. Keep your environment very highly structured.
1:14:57
Stryker
Okay, that's what I'm trying to do. And so far, it's been working, but there are times where it just all crashes down.
1:15:04
Drew
The wall crashes down?
1:15:05
Stryker
Yeah.
1:15:06
Drew
Literally? Probably because you start...
1:15:08
Stryker
Not literally, no.
1:15:10
Drew
No, it's probably because you start sort of letting your guard down and being a little more comfortable and getting out in the open there where he can sort of get at you. Can't do that. You got to keep this guy...
1:15:19
Stryker
Kim, stay out of the house as much as you can, and when you're in the house, go to your room and put the lock on there, okay?
1:15:26
Stryker
Yeah, I do that.
1:15:27
Drew
All right.
1:15:28
Stryker
And also, Stryker, you used to be a DJ at KFMA here in Tucson, didn't you?
1:15:34
Stryker
Yeah.
1:15:34
Stryker
Hey, do you remember when a few years ago you DJed at Alice Vale? Yeah. I'm Kim. I kept asking you for your autograph like ten times.
1:15:44
Stryker
Oh, yeah.
1:15:44
Stryker
I remember you.
1:15:45
Stryker
Do you? All right.
1:15:47
Who cares?
1:15:50
Stryker
Oh, Kim, that wasn't me, Anderson. Kim, I'm sorry you're going through this.
1:15:55
Adam
It's all right.
1:15:56
Stryker
Good luck to you, though.
1:15:57
Stryker
Okay. Thank you.
1:15:58
Adam
Keep listening to music and having a good time.
1:16:00
Stryker
Bye, Kim.
1:16:01
Stryker
Bye.
1:16:02
Stryker
Okay. Well, let's go to this one right here. Angie.
1:16:05
Stryker
Yeah.
1:16:06
Stryker
What's up? 20 on Loveline.
1:16:07
Stryker
A really depressing call.
1:16:08
Stryker
Yeah. Well, lighten us up a little.
1:16:10
Stryker
Okay.
1:16:11
Stryker
Woman.
1:16:11
Stryker
All right.
1:16:12
Stryker
So who's your...
1:16:13
Stryker
Hi, Sam, Alex, and Jason.
1:16:16
Stryker
Hi.
1:16:19
Stryker
If you could be any superhero, who would it be?
1:16:21
Stryker
Who?
1:16:23
Stryker
Hello? Yeah.
1:16:26
Stryker
I guess the odd silence wasn't a good thing.
1:16:27
Drew
Sam has said Meltman.
1:16:30
Adam
Forest Whitaker?
1:16:31
Stryker
Oh, I was going to say that one.
1:16:35
Adam
Uh, I would be, um, who would you be, Alex?
1:16:40
Stryker
Elf?
1:16:41
Stryker
No, dude, I'd be like Silver Surfer or something, dude. I'm from California, you know?
1:16:46
Adam
Who would you be, Sam?
1:16:47
Stryker
Ah, it's kind of cheesy, but I'd say Superman because he can fly, that's kind of cool.
1:16:50
Stryker
Oh, and, um...
1:16:53
Adam
Do you like that answer?
1:16:54
Stryker
That's so cute, Sam, I can't stand it.
1:16:56
Adam
Good answer. I, is there any, uh, maybe I would be, um...
1:17:00
Stryker
Girls are smitten over you guys.
1:17:01
Adam
Maybe I'd be Batman.
1:17:03
Stryker
Batman. Kind of dark.
1:17:05
Drew
Angie, what would be a good answer?
1:17:07
Stryker
I was thinking Captain Planet because he wants to save, you know, the universe, and there's all those, like, five, the five groups.
1:17:14
Drew
How about Aquaman?
1:17:15
Stryker
I was going to say Aquaman also.
1:17:16
Stryker
Aquaman is probably the most unimportant character.
1:17:19
Stryker
He can only live in water.
1:17:20
Adam
Who was the character that looked like a crazy rock?
1:17:22
Stryker
Oh, that's The Thing.
1:17:23
Adam
I might be The Thing. Really called The Thing.
1:17:25
Drew
Part of Fantastic Four.
1:17:26
Stryker
It's all gamma rays. It happened to the Hulk, too.
1:17:28
Drew
The Hulk.
1:17:29
Stryker
Oh, God, I'm a nerd.
1:17:30
Stryker
Oh, my God.
1:17:31
Stryker
And Thor.
1:17:32
Stryker
I want to be Thor.
1:17:34
Caller
Thor.
1:17:36
Stryker
Oh, from Adventures in Babysitting.
1:17:37
Adam
I want to be Enrique Iglesias.
1:17:39
Calling all nerds.
1:17:43
Stryker
Anyway, I want to say it like I go to UCR and you guys filmed at UCR and that's probably like the coolest thing that's ever happened here.
1:17:50
Adam
So awesome.
1:17:50
Stryker
That was pretty cool. Anyways, I'll see you guys at Rhino Records. See you. Awesome.
1:17:54
Stryker
All right.
1:17:55
Adam
Take it, Angie.
1:17:55
Stryker
All right.
1:17:56
Stryker
Peace.
1:17:57
Stryker
All right, Angie, sit down.
1:17:57
Stryker
Peace. At the same time.
1:18:00
Stryker
You guys have to make out now.
1:18:01
Stryker
Let's see it.
1:18:04
Stryker
Oh, my God. You guys are such good friends, aren't y'all? Yeah. That's cool. Quisty.
1:18:09
Stryker
Hi.
1:18:10
Stryker
Hi, you're 18 on Loveline.
1:18:11
Stryker
Yeah. I just want to say I love Phantom Planet.
1:18:15
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:15
Stryker
I'm really excited about the album coming out.
1:18:17
Stryker
So are we.
1:18:18
Stryker
Who's feeding you these lines?
1:18:19
Stryker
What's that?
1:18:20
Drew
I'm just kidding.
1:18:21
Stryker
We got a lot of plants.
1:18:22
Stryker
Yeah. Jason.
1:18:24
Drew
Yeah.
1:18:24
Stryker
I love you.
1:18:25
Drew
Oh, thank you.
1:18:25
Stryker
You're sexy, you're talented, and I get off to Rushmore sometimes.
1:18:29
Stryker
Wow. Zoinks?
1:18:31
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:32
Stryker
You and me both, baby. Come on, Alex.
1:18:35
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:35
Stryker
I'm an 18-year-old virgin.
1:18:37
Stryker
I'm waiting out for you guys.
1:18:39
Stryker
What?
1:18:41
Stryker
All right.
1:18:42
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:42
Stryker
Do you have a question now?
1:18:44
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:44
Stryker
They told me to think of something creative, so.
1:18:46
Drew
No, no. Forget it. No, no.
1:18:48
Stryker
I do have one though.
1:18:48
Drew
I don't want any dreamed up questions.
1:18:50
Stryker
Me neither. George.
1:18:53
Stryker
Yeah.
1:18:53
Stryker
From Hollywood, you're 23.
1:18:54
Stryker
Yes.
1:18:55
Drew
What's up? Turn that radio down.
1:18:58
Stryker
Okay.
1:18:59
Stryker
The Phantom Planet people are a little off.
1:19:01
Stryker
You guys notice that? What's up?
1:19:03
Stryker
Go ahead.
1:19:04
Drew
The Phantom Planet followers.
1:19:05
Adam
The Phantom Planet fans rule.
1:19:06
Stryker
No, I'm not saying they don't rule. I'm just saying they're a little off, which is a good thing. I'm off.
1:19:10
Drew
George, go. Yeah. George.
1:19:12
Stryker
What?
1:19:13
Drew
Go right ahead.
1:19:14
Stryker
George.
1:19:14
Drew
What's up, George?
1:19:15
Stryker
Hey, what's up?
1:19:16
Stryker
Hey. How you doing?
1:19:17
Stryker
What's up, player?
1:19:18
Drew
How you doing?
1:19:19
I'm doing very well tonight. I love the record. I just had one question. On one of the tracks, I think there's some really sweet saxophones.
1:19:28
Stryker
I know this is Mark.
1:19:30
Some really sweet saxophones. I'm just wondering who's responsible for that.
1:19:33
Stryker
It's you, Mark. You played saxophone on that song, dude.
1:19:37
Adam
I don't know.
1:19:39
Stryker
I'll see you later tonight, buddy.
1:19:40
Stryker
You guys have more friends calling up. No, no. Sick test.
1:19:45
Stryker
Good one, though, man. That was awesome.
1:19:47
Stryker
Not only was he fake, but he was a horrible faker trying to get rid of it.
1:19:50
Stryker
Reggie Cape.
1:19:53
Adam
Next question.
1:19:54
Stryker
I bet you know this person. Brittany, you're 16.
1:19:58
Adam
What are you doing calling?
1:20:01
Stryker
Well, I just wanted to say hey, guys.
1:20:03
Stryker
Hey.
1:20:03
Stryker
How are you doing?
1:20:04
Stryker
I love you.
1:20:05
Stryker
Awesome. All right.
1:20:07
Drew
There we go. She has a question. Do you have a question?
1:20:11
Stryker
Yes, I do.
1:20:12
Stryker
Go ahead.
1:20:13
Stryker
So my mom hasn't seen this guy. He's about 20 years older than she is. You'd think he'd be more mature, but they go in the room and they go in there and smoke pot. I don't feel okay with that going on in my house. So I was wondering if you could help me out to figure out what I should tell her to stop and stuff.
1:20:35
Drew
She may not stop.
1:20:37
Stryker
I know, but I just don't think it's right going on in the house. I'm not comfortable with that.
1:20:42
Drew
Well, have you told her that?
1:20:44
Stryker
I don't know how to.
1:20:46
Stryker
Tell her. Sit her down alone away from that guy and tell her.
1:20:49
Stryker
Okay.
1:20:49
Drew
All right.
1:20:51
Stryker
Tell her it bothers you. Your parents will listen to you.
1:20:54
Drew
Yeah, I hope.
1:20:57
Stryker
Okay.
1:20:57
Drew
But what else are you going to do? You want to call the cops? You want to bust them? I mean, what are you going to do?
1:21:02
Stryker
I don't know. I guess that's all I can do.
1:21:04
Drew
She's living her life. She's an adult. You can certainly tell her how it makes you feel and start to try to stay with those feelings and try not to be...
1:21:13
Stryker
Yeah, because this thing is really hypocritical to me.
1:21:16
Drew
No, that's not going to go over good. What you're going to have to say is, hey, this is how I feel when I see you hurting yourself like that and I feel violated and I don't like my home being dealt with like that. Just your feelings about it. Not a lot of you messages, you're this, you're that, you're hypocritical. Just here's how I feel when this goes on in the house.
1:21:37
Stryker
What you should do is sneak in the room when they're not there, steal the pot, sell it at school, make a little profit.
1:21:41
Drew
As we said earlier, it's always bad when kids are parentalized.
1:21:43
Stryker
Yeah, good plan, guys.
1:21:44
Stryker
Thank you. Bye, Brittany.
1:21:45
Stryker
Okay, bye, thanks.
1:21:47
Drew
Go to some Alateen meetings, too. That would help you.
1:21:49
Stryker
Alateen, she's never heard of it. Lyric 17, you're on Loveline.
1:21:52
Stryker
Hi, guys. Hi.
1:21:53
Adam
Hi.
1:21:54
Stryker
I just want to say I love the new album.
1:21:55
Adam
Thank you.
1:21:56
Stryker
I have it, but...
1:21:57
Stryker
How do you have it? It's not out yet.
1:21:59
Stryker
My friend works at a radio station.
1:22:01
Stryker
Interesting.
1:22:02
Stryker
I saw you guys at the fan club show.
1:22:04
Drew
Oh, cool. Thanks for coming. Were your parents hippies?
1:22:07
Stryker
No.
1:22:08
Drew
What do they got a name like Lyric?
1:22:11
Stryker
Out of a book.
1:22:12
Stryker
It's Melifluous, Dr. Drew.
1:22:14
Drew
And they aren't hippies?
1:22:16
Stryker
No.
1:22:17
Stryker
All right.
1:22:18
Stryker
So I actually have a problem with being a question. My best friend is a lesbian.
1:22:23
Drew
Your best friend?
1:22:24
Stryker
My best friend. And my boyfriend has always turned around, oh, I can't be like her, you know. What? He gets off on it, I guess, and...
1:22:34
Drew
How old is your boyfriend?
1:22:35
Stryker
He's 17 too.
1:22:37
Adam
17 going on three.
1:22:38
Drew
Think about the way those on these guys.
1:22:40
Adam
Yeah.
1:22:40
Drew
Why can't you be a lesbian?
1:22:42
Adam
Yeah.
1:22:42
Drew
You're really a disappointment to me.
1:22:43
Stryker
Well, recently, like I've always picked up on like vibes between them two. They've been kind of flirting.
1:22:51
Adam
Wait, how could there be vibes if she's a lesbian?
1:22:53
Stryker
We'll see.
1:22:54
Stryker
Hold on. And so recently we all kind of pulled around.
1:22:57
Drew
The three together.
1:22:58
Stryker
Yeah.
1:22:58
Stryker
And afterwards, she admitted that she thinks she's bisexual instead of lesbian, which I can understand.
1:23:04
Stryker
Your boyfriend's good. That's why.
1:23:09
Drew
You guys wanted to bet. This could be the call.
1:23:11
Stryker
And so.
1:23:13
Stryker
Larry, can you hold on a sec?
1:23:14
Stryker
Yeah.
1:23:14
Drew
Okay. Yeah.
1:23:16
Stryker
Do we have time to do it right now or do we have to do it right now? Ah, Christ. All right, Larry, we're gonna put you on hold. We're gonna talk to you. We're gonna gamble in here and get out your wallet, you guys. We're gonna find out what's going on with her dad, you would say, or her mom. Play some dominoes.
1:23:27
Stryker
I don't know. I don't know.
1:23:30
Stryker
I was laying bones and then yelling dominoes. All right.
1:23:32
Stryker
We'll find out what's going on with her.
1:23:33
Drew
Thank you, your bet. Do it quick.
1:23:35
Stryker
All right. Here we go. We're back. More Loveline after this.
1:23:38
Stryker
Hello, this is your radio. Radio, Loveline will be right back.
1:24:25
Stryker
Not yet, not yet, not yet.
1:24:26
Stryker
I know, but they're going to fade out before that comes in. No, no, no. No, it's looped over.
1:24:29
Adam
No, they're not, baby.
1:24:30
Stryker
Here they go.
1:24:32
Adam
We're going to bring it on.
1:24:39
Drew
John's a good drummer from System.
1:24:42
Stryker
John is a good drummer.
1:24:43
Stryker
What's up, John?
1:24:44
It's Stryker.
1:24:45
Stryker
And Dr. Drew at Loveline, and Adam Carolla will be back tomorrow. He's been in New Orleans. Phantom Planet is here. We have about 15 minutes left. Thank you guys for being here. 15 minutes? Hi. That's it. We're going to give the dates where you're going to be before you go. So if you guys are wondering where they're going to be, we will tell you. We were speaking to Lyric who has a boyfriend. Her best friend, though, a girl, is a lesbian. The boyfriend is now having feelings.
1:25:08
Drew
No, no.
1:25:08
Stryker
No?
1:25:09
Drew
The boyfriend talked them into a threesome.
1:25:11
Stryker
Right.
1:25:11
Drew
Now the girlfriend thinks maybe she's not lesbian, but now Lyric thinks she is lesbian.
1:25:17
Stryker
Right? Oh, I missed that part really? Yeah, I missed that part too. I think you're making this up.
1:25:21
Drew
Check it out.
1:25:21
Stryker
Okay. Now we're going to do a little gambling here.
1:25:26
Drew
Let's clarify the story. Lyric?
1:25:29
Stryker
Lyric?
1:25:29
Drew
Is that the story?
1:25:30
Stryker
No, I don't think I'm a lesbian.
1:25:32
Drew
Didn't you say you were developing feelings for your girlfriend?
1:25:34
Stryker
No, she's developing feelings for my boyfriend, and I think he's developing feelings for her.
1:25:39
Drew
That's what I said.
1:25:41
Stryker
That's what I thought too, Drew.
1:25:43
Drew
Did you have a threesome?
1:25:44
Stryker
No, we just fooled around. We didn't have a complete threesome.
1:25:49
Stryker
You were experimenting.
1:25:51
Stryker
Did all three tongues touch at once?
1:25:52
Stryker
Yes. Yes.
1:25:54
Stryker
Come on.
1:25:56
Adam
All right, okay. All right, here we go.
1:25:58
Drew
Well, I might sort of change my bedding impulse.
1:26:00
Stryker
Yeah, I don't think we can gamble on her now.
1:26:02
Stryker
Give me my dollar back.
1:26:03
Adam
Wait, you guys forfeit, then I win all the money. Game over.
1:26:07
Stryker
So what's your question then, Lyric?
1:26:09
Stryker
I don't really know what to do with this situation. I've talked to both of them, but they both denied it. But I can still really tell that they have some type of feelings for each other because whenever we're all together, they flirt and basically ignore me.
1:26:27
Drew
Well, that happens.
1:26:28
Stryker
And there's an example of why not to have a threesome when in a relationship right there.
1:26:32
Drew
The feelings come up that you don't expect and now there it is. Now they may be containing those feelings, right?
1:26:40
Stryker
Or maybe right now while we're talking, they're doing you know what?
1:26:42
Drew
I hope not.
1:26:43
Stryker
Math. Come on. Homework. That's what he's trying to say.
1:26:47
Stryker
He's drilling her in social studies.
1:26:48
Drew
Oh, no. What does he want from us? What's the question?
1:26:53
Stryker
The question?
1:26:54
Drew
Yeah.
1:26:55
Stryker
I'm just wondering if I should confront them both at the same time and...
1:26:59
Drew
No, because I wouldn't do that, but I would talk to both of them. And really, the important thing is to clarify with your boyfriend what is going on in this relationship that you're having with him. Is it going to continue? Is he committed to it? Is this time to break up?
1:27:14
Stryker
But how lucky is this guy?
1:27:16
Drew
And let him know how his sort of carrying on has made you feel. Now, you've sort of created this situation for yourself by letting it go this far. This is a situation where boundaries are not being maintained or respected. And when that happens, S goes down.
1:27:33
Stryker
And it's going down, all right Lyric? We're going to try to grab a couple more calls here.
1:27:36
Drew
Good luck. Thanks.
1:27:37
Stryker
Good luck.
1:27:38
Stryker
Seventeen, were you guys getting involved in threesomes? You say yes, I'll kill you.
1:27:42
Stryker
Yes, actually I'm fifteen. I experimented.
1:27:45
Drew
Shut up.
1:27:47
Stryker
Okay, I know, that's where we're going.
1:27:48
Stryker
He's not kidding.
1:27:49
Stryker
Kiana. Kiana?
1:27:51
Stryker
Hello? Hi.
1:27:52
Stryker
It's Kiana here.
1:27:53
Stryker
You're nineteen.
1:27:54
Stryker
Welcome to the love blog. I'm a surfer.
1:27:57
Stryker
Yeah, I saw you guys playing Bakersville a couple of years ago at the gate with this band called the LeBex.
1:28:02
Stryker
Oh yeah.
1:28:03
Stryker
In the basement? No.
1:28:06
Stryker
No, it's at the gate. It's like a convert church.
1:28:09
Adam
Right, I remember.
1:28:10
Stryker
Oh yeah, yeah.
1:28:10
Adam
That's where you learn how to break dance.
1:28:12
Stryker
That's right.
1:28:13
Stryker
Yeah.
1:28:14
Stryker
Okay, you got a question?
1:28:15
Stryker
Yeah, I was wondering, like, lately I have this big obsession with going to the strip club in town, but I don't feel like I'm a lesbian, but like that's all I ever want to do is like go there. I mean, I don't even know what my own problem is.
1:28:31
Stryker
Keanu, do you get the table dances?
1:28:34
Stryker
No, I get lap dances.
1:28:36
Stryker
Yeah, that's what I mean. And you're spending a lot of money?
1:28:38
Drew
Yeah, you're a lesbian. Have you got a boyfriend?
1:28:40
Stryker
No, I don't have a boyfriend.
1:28:42
Drew
Have you ever had a boyfriend?
1:28:43
Stryker
Yeah, I've had lots of boyfriends, but-
1:28:45
Stryker
Do the girls hit on you that are doing your dances?
1:28:49
Stryker
Not really. I mean, it doesn't seem to go like any farther than what they need to do. Because, you know, they're supposed to like turn you on or whatever, but-
1:29:00
Drew
They're supposed to.
1:29:01
Stryker
It's weird because I feel like, I don't know, I like going there and stuff, but it doesn't really turn me on.
1:29:06
Drew
Why do you go?
1:29:09
Stryker
You're a lesbian.
1:29:10
Drew
Drew, what does it do for you then?
1:29:14
Stryker
It's fun. It's entertainment.
1:29:16
Drew
Entertainment.
1:29:17
Stryker
Do they touch you at all when they're dancing?
1:29:19
Drew
Are you trying not to do drugs or something?
1:29:25
Stryker
I don't want to do drugs now.
1:29:26
Drew
Right. You're trying not to do drugs, right? What's all that about? Are you in recovery or are you just trying not to do drugs?
1:29:33
Stryker
I've never done any drugs.
1:29:35
Drew
You've never done any drugs?
1:29:36
Stryker
Never.
1:29:37
Drew
Oh, well.
1:29:40
Stryker
I want to know more about you going to the strip club and why aren't the girls hitting on you outside of the club?
1:29:44
Stryker
Is she going by herself? Are you going by yourself?
1:29:48
Stryker
Well, usually I try and take a guy friend along, but I've gone by myself a couple of times.
1:29:53
Drew
How often do you end up going?
1:29:56
Stryker
Seven days a week.
1:29:57
Stryker
Well, no, usually a couple of days a week.
1:30:00
Stryker
That's got to be expensive, isn't it?
1:30:02
Stryker
Well, like there's one night that I get in free on, so.
1:30:07
Drew
I just get, tell me more about your drug history. You've never done any drugs?
1:30:11
Stryker
Never.
1:30:12
Drew
And is there addiction in your family?
1:30:15
Stryker
Yeah, my parents are both alcoholics. I'm not really sure if they've used drugs. I mean, I'm sure they've...
1:30:21
Drew
Do you drink?
1:30:23
Stryker
No, not really. I mean, occasionally.
1:30:26
Drew
Have you ever had a problem with alcohol, some momentum with alcohol?
1:30:29
Stryker
Like, a couple months ago, there was a week where I drunk pretty heavily because I was, like, really depressed.
1:30:35
Drew
See, to me, this is just sort of typical addict behavior. This is what addicts do when they try to manage feelings. They go into these very highly arousing or thrilling situations or take drugs that activate that same part of the brain as a way of trying to deal. And it may not even be something that's particularly enjoyable, but if you're depressed or you're anxious or you have unpleasant issues you're coping with, you may compulsively do things like steal or drive fast or go to strip bars or act out sexually.
1:31:03
Stryker
Instead of doing the drugs you're drinking you're saying, right?
1:31:05
Drew
Yeah, it's all part of the same thing. And it sounds like that's what you're doing. Basically what people are looking for is kind of altering. They just want to go into sort of a transcendent state, almost like a trance state, to get relief, to get out of that. And you're not even experiencing any arousal out of this, but you still get that sort of transcendence, right?
1:31:25
Stryker
Yeah, it's like an escape.
1:31:26
Drew
Like a daydream kind of thing. And escape is the word that we usually most addicts talk about.
1:31:30
Stryker
What do you think that she needs to do, Drew, to maybe... I mean, do you think you're addicted to going to the strip club?
1:31:35
Drew
I'm not saying that. It's just that she's got... she's set up for this. She's not there yet. And it's a sign, to me, that you've got some very heavy feelings you're trying to manage, and you need to go do that in a more productive way.
1:31:46
Adam
It's all coming from the same place.
1:31:47
Drew
From the same place. You need to go get a therapist or, you know, as Adam would say, find Jesus Christ, do something more productive with your life right now that really gets you managing these things. You're a lesbian. Go see a psychiatrist, see a therapist, see a clergy. Seriously, some people will find a meaning with their religious community.
1:32:10
Stryker
All right, Kiana?
1:32:11
Stryker
All right, thanks a lot.
1:32:13
Drew
You're not going to get anywhere getting lap dances. You're just going to keep sitting in there getting weirder and weirder kinds of lap dances.
1:32:18
Stryker
I'll get somewhere.
1:32:19
Stryker
Are you in the lap dances?
1:32:20
Stryker
No, she's gone. All right, let's take one more quick one here. Amber? What's up? You're 14. Ask away real quick.
1:32:26
Stryker
Okay, I have like this boyfriend who wants me to give him head, but I'm not willing to do it.
1:32:31
Drew
How old is he?
1:32:32
Stryker
He's also 14.
1:32:35
Stryker
You don't need to do it. You're only 14. Wait it out a little bit.
1:32:38
Drew
He doesn't deserve it.
1:32:40
Stryker
Yeah, if he's getting it at 14, F him. Not literally.
1:32:45
Drew
But then again, don't.
1:32:46
Stryker
I know, but we've been going out for like about a year now.
1:32:51
Stryker
Yeah.
1:32:51
Drew
All right. That's cool. Good. It's nice that you're considering it. Don't do it.
1:32:55
Stryker
I know, but it's just weird though.
1:32:58
Drew
It'd be weird to do it?
1:32:59
Adam
Yeah.
1:33:00
Drew
Yes, it would be awful.
1:33:02
Stryker
It kind of tastes like swordfish.
1:33:04
Stryker
Oh.
1:33:06
Stryker
I wouldn't know.
1:33:08
Adam
All right.
1:33:09
Drew
Thank you, Amber.
1:33:10
Stryker
Wait, wait, wait.
1:33:10
Stryker
I have one more question.
1:33:12
Stryker
And there's like this guy who always comes after me, and he's like a stalker. And he always, always comes after me, and I'm like, just leave me alone, you know?
1:33:20
Drew
How old is he, the stalker?
1:33:22
Stryker
He's actually 15.
1:33:23
Drew
Well, I would, you know.
1:33:24
Adam
Older man.
1:33:25
Drew
Tell people at school, tell authority, tell teachers. Take it seriously. I mean, stalking is not an okay behavior.
1:33:30
Stryker
You never know where it's going. Go get a lap dance, you'll be fine. We're taking a quick break. More Loveline after this.
1:33:37
Stryker
All right, guys, here's the deal. You looking to hook up, sick of wasting time with the wrong person?
1:33:42
Stryker
One call is all you need to make.
1:33:44
Stryker
Call the Dateline.
1:33:45
Adam
877-889-DATE.
1:34:23
Stryker
Yeah, we're back. It's Loveline, Stryker here, and about to wrap up with the guys that hung out here at Phantom Planet. Thank you for being here.
1:34:31
Stryker
Thank you so much, Brad. We had so much fun. This is like a dream away.
1:34:34
Stryker
Man, I'm glad I was part of it. Super quick, February 26th over at USC, and then Aaron Records that night at 7.30. Go see him at Aaron Records on the 27th, playing UCLA during the day, and then Fingerprints at Night out in Long Beach. 28th of February, Rhino Records, 5 p.m. And all this is available on our website.
1:34:50
Stryker
phantomplanet.com, phantomplanetfamily.com as well.
1:34:52
Stryker
What is it? We have two websites. Okay. Well, you guys got them. All right. So for Dr. Drew.
1:34:57
Adam
Awesome.
1:34:57
Drew
Thank you.
1:34:58
Stryker
By the way, thanks for having me in Alaska a couple of nights. I felt a little below average in my head today.
1:35:03
Drew
Tonight?
1:35:04
Stryker
Yeah.
1:35:05
Adam
I'm not feeling that good. You were great.
1:35:07
Drew
Shouldn't have said anything. We never would have known.
1:35:08
Stryker
You were great.
1:35:09
Stryker
I want the giant stinky or you can go to the Super Bowl. Both great prizes, of course.
1:35:13
Stryker
Thank you. Stryker.
1:35:14
Stryker
Adam Corolla and Drew will be here tomorrow. So for Drew, I'm Stryker saying adios, muchacho.
1:35:19
Drew
Wave my magic wand, pow, you're gay. In case it wasn't.
1:35:22
Stryker
