4:19🔗VoiceoverI'm not modeling anymore for the two of you. Loveline.
4:24🔗AdamIt is Loveline, just like the nice man says. Phone number, 1-800-L-O-V-E-1-9-1, fax number 310-8-5-4-4-2-4-55. Dr. Drew over there is a board-certified physician, an addiction medicine specialist. System of A Down is the band we have tonight. John, Darren and Shavo are all here. We saw these guys about two weeks ago, three weeks ago.
4:57🔗AdamWe did a signing, and we did the K-Rock calendar signing, the flagship station out here, if you could technically. I guess technically, they would be a flagship, even though they don't have a good jock kitchen. System of A Down was playing, and man, it was quite an event. All we could hear is reverb because we were behind the stage, but kids were banging their heads like no tomorrow. And you guys must have played, what did you play for, an hour and a half or something?
5:42🔗AdamWell, everyone was going nuts, and then when they stopped playing, there was a mini riot, which is nice. A mini riot is nice because it shows enthusiasm, but no one really gets hurt.
5:53🔗Yeah. What's funny is that nothing really was happening. The kids were all pretty cool about it. I think that a lot of the riot situation happened because of the cops.
6:02🔗System of A DownI think the cops were rioting.
6:04🔗AdamYeah, the cops showed up on horses and a helicopter.
6:07🔗You know, like the SWAT team was about to jump out of a window.
6:10🔗AdamThe thing that was funny is these guys, cops showed up on horses and said, listen, the permit is only good till four o'clock and you guys got to clear out. And my ass was off the chair in about 30 seconds. I was like, let's not piss them off. Let's all go home.
6:25🔗System of A DownThey told us if we signed something for any kid, they'd take us to jail.
6:40🔗AdamYou're doing a wonderful job just parroting what I say. I'll tell you what we should do. I think we should hear something from System of A Down right now. Do we got something? You queued up there? Yes. Good Anderson. Good. We got sugar queued up? Good.
6:59🔗I could actually use some sugar if you have any for this tea.
7:01🔗AdamWell, we'll get you some while we listen to it. Here we go. That is System of A Down, and if you didn't catch them at the K-Rock Calendar signing, you can see them at the Good Time Jamboree Theatre at Magic Manor.
9:51🔗Us and the puppet shows, both on the same day.
9:53🔗AdamThey are the house band at the Good Time Jamboree Theatre. No, seriously, folks, you can see them the first. When's the first? Tomorrow. There you go, at the Whiskey and then at the Roxy down the street, on the third, the fourth at the Troubadour. And you guys just finished a tour up with Limp Bizkit and then it's off to Europe for the Black Sabbath Reunion Tour.
12:24🔗System of A DownYeah, but it's making her feel bad. She's the important one here, right? True.
12:28🔗AdamRight. But 125, 34D, I mean, that's big, but it's not grotesque and it's kind of nice. I mean, a lot of guys enjoy that. And maybe you ought to just work on the psychology and the emotional side of this before you go under the knife.
12:46🔗See, because I already had, like, therapy, you know?
13:29🔗DrewSorry. I just brought it up, I guess. The breast reduction is a surgery. There's risks of anesthesia, there's risks of infection, risks of bleeding, and the scars are pretty big. There's a big inverted T.
14:32🔗CallerOkay. Okay. I have a problem. I've been in love with this girl. She's my friend, and I've known her for about three years, and I see her every day, and for two weeks I've been planning to tell her how I feel, that I like her, and every time I get up to her, you know, I just like change the subject or what, or I get ready to say, and I like punk out. And it's like everybody says, oh, just tell her how you feel. You know, it's not that easy. It really isn't. You know? My luck with girls is like just extremely terrible.
15:15🔗AdamIt's way too late. But look, if you're going to freak her out, if you tell her how you feel. Here's how you tell her how you feel without telling her how you feel.
17:10🔗AdamThat drives them away. That stinks of loser. You know what I mean? It's like, hey, do you want to go out Saturday night? No, not really. Wait a minute. You don't understand. I'm really in love with you. Now they really don't want to go out Saturday night.
17:24🔗CallerBut I think you should definitely at least mention the fact that he is interested in her because otherwise when he gets older he's just going to kick himself for not doing it.
18:40🔗CallerYeah, I was going to ask you if you guys can put it up anytime on stage on the third show.
18:46🔗CallerI'll try to find it somewhere in my room and all the...
18:51🔗AdamLet me give you two words for the Schism shirt. Whack bib. Do you understand? Schism might as well just say jism now. All right, Alex, he's going to snap it in half and see if he can work it into this washing machine and then maybe he'll bring it out on stage.
20:15🔗System of A DownI made them listen to Kiss though while they did it.
20:18🔗AdamWell, see, I didn't want to piss them off because I figured I wouldn't get driven anywhere else. But it was like, my folks had me convinced that driving was sort of... You know, my mom... These chairs...
20:30🔗System of A DownI don't know, but I'm putting my jacket back on because it's cold.
20:33🔗AdamNo, no, that jacket's way too loud. Come on, get a blanket.
20:39🔗CallerLoud isn't like noisy loud or loud isn't wow.
20:48🔗AdamYou can hear that, right? All right, you can wear it, you can't move. No, Westwood One's a dump, I apologize for it, I really do. And they don't have any chairs in here. Drew and I have nice chairs because the listeners gave us these chairs. You guys have to...
22:34🔗AdamBut you're in a band. Wow. You know, it's funny, when a chick meets John, she has to really be torn. It's like, on one hand, he's in a band. I should screw him. But he is in the Dungeons and Dragons. Jesus, I don't know what to do.
22:46🔗System of A DownSo his looks have absolutely nothing to do with it.
22:48🔗CallerNo, not when you're in a band, they don't.
22:50🔗AdamThe band and the Dungeons and Dragons have to tear women apart right down the middle.
22:54🔗CallerDon't forget the video games. We have all kinds of problems with me.
22:57🔗System of A DownThey just get into porn and you'll get over your problem.
23:14🔗DrewHow old are you again? One day and this is a Tuesday.
23:17🔗AdamOkay. Listen, Andy, here's the deal. You have two choices. You either stop playing the Dungeons and Dragons or you start a band. That's those are your two choices.
23:27🔗AdamThat's a tough one. But listen, here's why you're drifting off into this fantasy world because you don't have a reality world. You don't have one. You know, in reality world, where you work, where you hang out with buddies, where you get laid, where you go to movies. I mean, that's people you have, you know, you like sports or whatever.
23:46🔗System of A DownDo you have buddies? Do you have any buddies that you're hanging out with?
24:10🔗AdamOkay. Take your meds, move out, get a job, start a band, meet a chick. Okay? All right. I've just mapped out the next five years of his life. Dungeons and Dragons. System of A Down is our guest tonight. That's also the name of their CD. We're going to take a little break. Then when we come back, a very hard-hitting interview with Darren's jacket. By the way, a rare and controversial. It's a very reclusive jacket. It normally doesn't do interviews. We have a rare interview. So we'll get to that after this.
24:51🔗AdamWe'll be right back. It is the Loveline. I'm Adam, that is Drew. Phone number 1-800-LLVE-191. John, Darren, and Shavar are all here from System of A Down, and that's the name of the CD. I'll tell you again where you can find them a little bit later in the show, but until then, we'll get back to the phones. Yeah.
25:42🔗DrewReal quickly, a word in from Paris. They've decided to allow women in Paris to get the morning after pill from their school directly.
25:53🔗DrewYep. Wow. Like condoms. And here's the really astonishing thing. The French are in a snit. They consider it a major public health problem that there's so many teen pregnancies, okay? They are very concerned about it because it affects as many as 10,000 girls in France.
26:19🔗CallerSeems like we're always behind on that kind of stuff.
26:21🔗AdamI don't like to give them French too much credit, but...
26:23🔗CallerAnd we have the rules where you have to be 18, and they have the 16 rule, and they have less pregnancies and less everything else.
26:30🔗AdamOh, and they've had that blessed RU486 over there for a while.
26:34🔗DrewSee, they're going around the RU486, and the damn this M article, though, they... this is a nationally, you know, sort of a UPA... you know, UPI...
27:09🔗CallerAll right. Um, last night I had a really, really weird experience with two of my coworkers, a girl and a guy. Um, we went out and had a couple drinks. I mean, the guy wasn't drinking, but the girl was. We went out to a pool hall. And what it was, was I set him and her up. We all worked together. And I'm actually attracted to her. I found out, like, later on in the evening. Um, you know, I think I liked her from the beginning when I first started working there, but, um... So we all went out and went back to his apartment in Brooklyn. And they started, like, making out on the couch, but she was, like, playing footsies with me. So I was like, man, what's going on with this? And so they just, like, after a little while, they just got up and went to the bedroom there.
27:52🔗System of A DownAnd why didn't you go with them?
28:01🔗System of A DownYeah, don't screw the guy. Don't screw the guy. Screw her. Haven't you watched pornos? There's, like, you know, shit going on with two guys, one girl.
28:08🔗AdamHold on with the S word, everybody. You got to go easy on that.
28:13🔗AdamBut listen, that stuff is well choreographed. Yeah. This you don't know.
28:18🔗CallerGo ahead. Well, anyway, they go into the room. And the thing is, you know, she comes out the next morning and me and her are having a cigarette. We're kind of touching each other, kissing a little bit and everything.
28:28🔗AdamWell, what were you doing in the living room?
28:31🔗CallerI slept on the couch and they went to his bedroom.
28:37🔗CallerWell, I kind of don't know how to deal with it now. We all work together and actually we're all working together on New Year's Eve. And I really like this girl, but this guy is a really nice guy. And I don't want her to feel anything. She doesn't know. She's kind of confused about who she likes.
28:51🔗AdamShe's kind of confused. She's like, listen, I take my eggs over easy. Now I'm going to go bang this co-worker in the bedroom. We'll be out in about nine hours.
29:18🔗CallerBut, you know, that's not a thing. Come on. I'm not stupid. I mean, I really like this girl. I've been out with plenty of girls and I'm really attracted to this girl. But I don't want to hurt his feelings. You know what I mean?
29:26🔗CallerWell, if you care about his feelings, homeboys stick together. No, no, no.
29:40🔗System of A DownThat makes a great scenario.
29:41🔗AdamListen. Find another waitress chick and call her your own.
29:46🔗CallerI don't think you want to mess around with somebody that you work with anyway.
29:49🔗AdamThat is a good point. Number two, if he did get together with this girl eventually, it would then end up bothering him that he saw her leave and go in the other room with this other guy. Well, he sat and watched cable all night. And I don't know what's up with him. He's 29 years old and we're playing footsie. So, that really meant something. And tell the time she got up and went in the room and had sex with the guy.
31:12🔗AdamNo. There's something with ovulation, but you never know when chicks ovulate.
31:17🔗DrewOr they can ovulate twice in a month. All kinds of things can happen. So rhythm method is better than nothing, but if you need birth control, that is not birth control.
31:31🔗AdamIt doesn't work because you can't predict it.
31:34🔗DrewThat's where you try to time the sexual intercourse away from ovulation. And you can measure the basal body temperature and you can try to time when she ovulates, but it's very, it's rather unpredictable.
31:45🔗CallerSounds a little too scientific for lovemaking.
31:48🔗AdamMike, why don't you just get her on the pill?
32:07🔗DrewWell, a condom is okay for safe sex, but there is no rhythm, there's no ovulation, there's no nothing. The pills have taken over. I just thought it'd be like safer if you. Mike, there's no rhythm when somebody's on the pill. There's no ovulation.
32:36🔗AdamYou better hope they're not monitoring this call. They'll toss your ass right out. You're an embarrassment to your classmates. You understand me? All right. All right. Take health again, would you? All right.
32:47🔗DrewNo rhythm. Just go look up the menstrual cycle.
33:15🔗CallerNo, I couldn't. I just had to leave too early. I've been longing to watch you guys for about half an hour. I've been loving you guys for about six months now. You guys are the bomb, man.
33:42🔗CallerAnd last year or the past year, the past April 24th, we had a poetry reading. And I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions along the lines of the genocide that you guys can talk about or what pointers you have that I can introduce about this upcoming year?
33:58🔗CallerAll it is is you got to just make them aware, just make people aware as many people possible about the fact that it did happen.
34:06🔗DrewWhy don't you go talk about it? I actually am aware of this.
34:08🔗AdamYou're talking about the Armenian genocide? Yeah, I know all about it. I was there.
34:12🔗System of A DownYeah, but there's a lot of people that don't.
34:24🔗CallerWhat you can do if you want to get some more information on it is called the Armenian Consulate, and they can probably give you all kinds of stuff.
34:37🔗CallerSo anyway, about 1.5 million Turks, that was bad. That was a dying Turkey. Anyway, no, it's not the Turkish people that we don't like or have anything against. It's the whole government and the whole fact that they still don't recognize the fact that the genocide did happen. And it's like a forgotten genocide.
34:56🔗DrewFriends of Armenia, their grandparents were there.
35:02🔗CallerI'm from Armenia. And my grandpa was rescued by a Greek ship who was just taking people off the coast of the Mediterranean. And it was hell. And until today, I think only France recognizes the fact that it actually happened.
35:23🔗AdamThe French, they got the morning after pill. They recognized the Armenian genocide. I mean, I'm getting ready to move to France. I really am. What language they speak over there, Drew? Huh? You could go with me. You act as my interpreter.
36:01🔗CallerHow it goes is that I got pregnant by a guy, so to speak, I guess. A couple of weeks later, I met another guy, but he was like a really close friend of mine anyway, so we started seeing each other. Well, after my pregnancy and everything else, he's been with me through everything. And now, the dad wants me to go take her, to go see him, and it's like a couple of states away. Well, my boyfriend now does not want me to go.
36:49🔗AdamThen he moved away, and now he wants you to bring the child to see him for a little while or move in or what?
36:55🔗CallerA couple weeks or a week or so. And then you'll visit and come back.
36:59🔗DrewWhat do you think that's going to do for you or the child?
37:02🔗CallerWell for me, I think it would be good for her because she's just a baby anyway and his grandma wants to see her.
37:09🔗AdamThis guy abandoned you and the child and now he wants you to come by like some exhibit like you're at King Tut's art collection or something. You're going to roll through town.
37:21🔗CallerIs this going to happen often or are you going to go visit him and let the kid know?
37:24🔗CallerNo, the reason I'm doing this is because grandma's not feeling well and a couple other family members are just down for a visit.
37:29🔗CallerWell it's kind of weird for the kid I guess to see the natural dad and then never see him again.
38:02🔗AdamDamn, what are we coming to as a society? Guy knocks you up, has a kid, sees it be born, and then leaves. Now sits around, talks to his grandparents and his folks, and guilt you into not coming out with his kid.
38:18🔗AdamMeanwhile, you got a good guy who's sticking by you, and willing to help you raise the kid.
38:26🔗DrewWhen he needs, the daughter needs the kid.
38:28🔗AdamDrew, I was on a goddamn roll. Would you shut up? And you are dissing this guy. It's a slap in the face of the guy who wants to be a dad to go then visit the deadbeat across the country. Now here's the only thing I can think of, Jen. The new guy is too nice.
38:50🔗AdamAnd you're laughing, but you've got to stir things up.
38:53🔗DrewThis is not funny. This is bad for your kid.
38:56🔗AdamYou have a very rare, calm environment for you, your kid, and this guy to come up in, and you're going to agitate things. That's what you're looking to do.
39:09🔗DrewAnd you're still involved with the old boyfriend, too.
39:11🔗AdamAnd you said this guy was pissed off that you're going to go visit, right?
39:23🔗AdamJen, why do you have to shake his snowglobe up this way? Think about that for a second.
39:31🔗CallerI have to think about that for a second, sir.
39:32🔗AdamThere's five guys in the room right now saying no. Let me explain what goes on. People grow up in chaos. And when they grow up in chaos, all they know is chaos. And whether they like it or not, they long for it. So she gets hooked up with a chaotic guy. She gets pregnant. This guy's a deadbeat in an a-hole. He sees the kid be born and then he goes across town. Now she finds a good guy. This guy loves her. This guy's a nice guy. This guy's like one of these guys who called in earlier tonight. He's there all the time. He's real consistent. He's got a job. He welcomes the kid as if it was his own. He's going to offer some consistency. And Jen welcomes that when she's on her back for a couple of weeks. But then she has a little time to think. And she starts getting antsy and she misses the chaos. Now it's not a conscious thing. It's, I need chaos because I'm screwed up and I haven't done any therapy and I'm on a mission. So it starts to come up with stuff like, well, I'll go visit this guy. His grandparents really want to see the kid. Meanwhile the guy she's got at home is saying, don't go, I'm pissed off. I don't want you going over there. And she's saying, honey, it's important that I go. It's important that the kid, nonsense. It's important that you stir up some chaos so that you can relive this old life of yours. And you're going to do exactly what you're setting out to do, which is piss this guy off, alienate him, and then you'll be alone in your chaotic world again. But meanwhile, and mess up your kid, your kid is going to get screwed up and have a whole chaotic family of their own. Don't do it. Stay with this guy. And if the dad wants to see his god damn kid, he can get on a god damn plane and come out and see him. And I would have reservations about that too.
41:12🔗CallerAnd the grandma doesn't need to see them.
41:15🔗AdamAnd what grandmother in her right mind is not yelling at the grandson saying, what the hell are you doing over here when your kid's over there? This guy's flawed.
42:32🔗AdamIt is Loveline. John, Darren, and Shava are all here from System of A Down. That's also the name of the CD. Drew is here. He has no CD out right now, but he's in the studio.
42:58🔗CallerI have been having a strong attraction to one of my friends. She's like my best friend for about a year and a half now. And I was just curious if that's wrong, if that's going to jeopardize something that I have with my boyfriend.
43:12🔗System of A DownWow. Damn. You got a lot of issues for 14, man.
43:16🔗AdamDo you think you're a lesbian or you're just attracted to this one girl?
43:20🔗CallerI have attractions to a lot of different girls.
43:27🔗CallerFirst of all, I have one advice. You're 14 years old. You shouldn't be. No, you're 14. You shouldn't be doing anything within anyone right now. Too late. Let your feelings grow and see how they develop. 16, 17, you'll, you know. But let's get ourselves more.
44:37🔗CallerAt 12, I had to even trace my first name.
44:39🔗DrewBasically, anyone sort of becoming overtly sanctified after 12, I had this conversation with an AIDS doctor a couple days ago. We were talking about confidential testing for anybody 12 and over, which is what AIDS testing is available for right now.
44:53🔗DrewAnd in his pamphlet, it says 13 to 24. I said, how come you don't say 12? I was thinking, anybody 12 who comes in sexually active is being sexually abused. We have to report that to social service.
48:10🔗CallerYeah. Well, my question is for Dr. Drew because well, I've done in the last maybe like six months, I've done like nine hits of acid and it's like I see almost like permanent trails now even when I'm not on anything. Like if you know what I'm talking about by trails.
48:28🔗DrewYeah. That is a marker for brain damage. And it means that you will start having some severe depressions sometime in the next 10 years. If you continue to see the trails.
48:42🔗DrewBut with them persisting, that is a marker for somebody who's going to have mood problems.
48:47🔗System of A DownThat's really something to look forward to.
48:49🔗DrewAnd that's part of what LSD does to the brain. It's called excitotoxicity where an over stimulation with certain pathways actually causes the cell to die.
49:13🔗DrewThe only pattern I've seen, the only way I can predict, it's very unpredictable how many times people get exposed to that drug before they have some long-term consequences.
49:21🔗CallerThe thing is every person I think is...
49:29🔗CallerYeah, because it affects the body totally differently to everyone. Everyone always who I've talked to, it's always been a different feeling, it's always been a different thing.
49:37🔗AdamBut Ryan is being affected, so Ryan needs to stop.
49:40🔗DrewOne pattern I've seen over and again is the persistent trailers is a marker for...
49:45🔗DrewFor bad, bad mood problems down the line, and they are recalcitrant. I've got just probably hundreds now of these patients I've treated.
49:52🔗AdamOne more reason he should be glad he has Shavo's pick, because again, he may be unable to work as an adult, and he's going to need that as his little nest egg.
50:02🔗DrewNo, he may be okay, but it means something. You don't still see trailers because nothing happened to you.
50:09🔗AdamWe're going to take a little break, and when we come back, we'll speak to Marie. She flashed her boobs at the band. Wants to know if they remember. I'm sure. No matter how much answer they've done, they'll be able to recall this one after the break.
51:04🔗AdamIt is Loveline. We're going to take a quick 10-second timeout. We'll be back with more of the show in just 10 seconds.
51:26🔗AdamIt is Loveline. I'm Adam, that's Drew, phone number 1-800-L-O-V-E-1-9-1. We have John, Darren, and Chavo all here from System of A Down. And let me give you a couple more dates where you can find these guys nationally. The LA shows we talked about, they're all sold out, sorry. But you can find them if you're going to be around Portland on the 8th of December, then Austin on the 10th, then San Antonio on the 11th. And again, you can bang your head with Drew somewhere in Europe when they kick off the big Sabbath Reunion tour.
52:26🔗CallerYou remember? I was in the front. I remember you gave me a pic at the end too. I did? Yeah, because you threw me like a bunch of pics and everybody else got them and like I rushed the stage and you gave it to me like personally.
52:37🔗System of A DownWell, thank you for flashing the band.
52:40🔗CallerYeah, so I just want to know if you remember it. And if you guys did, you know, since I did bear my breath to you, I think you could hook me up with some tickets.
52:47🔗System of A DownOh, always got to want something.
52:50🔗AdamYou got one of those very valuable pics. You need more?
52:54🔗CallerI have a pic, but it's not the one that's scratched. But he handed it to me.
52:58🔗System of A DownI don't scratch my pics. That's fine.
53:07🔗CallerOur guest list is... I mean, they're just small places and they got sold out quick. I'd love to get all of you guys in.
53:15🔗System of A DownWe appreciate you showing us your flesh and all of it.
53:18🔗AdamRight. But let me explain how the boob flash works. Because the Lord knows I've done it at many a concert myself. Starting in the late 70s with Uriah Heap. Remember when I used to go to Heap concerts and pull my top up, Drew?
53:47🔗AdamI didn't pull the top off because I wanted to get backstage. I pulled the top off because it was an homage to the band. It was something I gave to the band, and that's what you do. If something good comes of it, like you give a roadie a blow job in the bus or something, then that's all gravy, isn't it?
54:04🔗CallerThe roadies enjoy that. The whole breast thing is almost like clapping. It's another way for you to show your appreciation.
54:08🔗AdamIn Japan, it's considered polite applause.
54:17🔗CallerOkay. I have a problem. Okay. About in July, I started trying Ecstasy because my friends all do it. So what happened was is that my boyfriend and I did Ecstasy together and we had sex when we were on it. And now ever since like when we're off of it, I don't enjoy it like as much at all as when I'm on it. And I'm like, I don't know, like I'm scared because it's like, I don't know, I'm just, I love Ecstasy.
54:45🔗AdamHow many times have you done it and had sex?
55:05🔗CallerNo, it was, I mean, of course it's good and all, but I mean, it's just like, I don't know, it's like doesn't compare at all.
55:11🔗AdamWas there something different going on in you or was there something different going on in him as well? I mean, was he less motivated or something?
55:26🔗CallerYeah, then you probably understand what I'm talking about.
55:28🔗AdamI didn't get laid. I just sat with my buddies at a diner. One of them started laughing and spit coffee in my face. Went home and tried to go to bed for nine hours.
55:36🔗CallerSo great that we're friends and we're here right now.
55:51🔗CallerAnd number two is that just feeling is a lot more, you feel touch more. And I mean, but you can't get caught up in that because I mean, you're living a regular life and that's a drug and it's a chemical and you don't want to get used to taking chemicals to enjoy things that you should enjoy naturally, which is sex.
56:06🔗AdamThat's a very good point. I mean, you should be able to enjoy sex.
56:10🔗CallerNo, I completely understand what I do, but like I have one more question for you. What do I do because like ever since that I have started doing ecstasy, like I have completely, like I have known a big change from when I was over to like now, and I don't know what to do because I feel completely different from like how I used to do.
56:30🔗CallerI don't know, like it's like hard to explain. I can't even explain it. It's just like I can tell the differences like ever since I started doing it. Like sometimes like, I don't know, like I'm very emotional now. Like really, really emotional.
56:43🔗CallerIt does that. No, it does that to you.
56:44🔗DrewAlright, well you are sped up. Your speech is all sped up and pressured. So you are sped up, you are labile. I mean this drug is seriously dangerous, Kristen.
56:54🔗System of A DownThe difference between then and now is that before you weren't on drugs, now you are on drugs and that's why you feel all messed up.
57:09🔗DrewEventually the lability of mood, the mood irritability gets much worse. You will start to have problems thinking. You will start believing people. You will get paranoid. It is a major price.
57:24🔗CallerPlus, no. It doesn't have a lot of... You don't know exactly what it is going to do to you. A newer thing and the stuff that people are getting on the street is really dirty and cut up. No one really knows exactly what it is going to do to you in the future. You could do it now and have fun on it and enjoy it. Twenty years from now, you might have multiple sclerosis because of it or something.
57:45🔗AdamSo the point is she should stop doing it.
58:06🔗CallerI wanted to know, can I talk to System of A Down?
58:09🔗System of A DownWe're here. Hey, how's it going? Liz?
58:12🔗CallerI saw you guys at Best Buy and it was a really good show. I just wanted to know if you could tell me what your name means. What does that mean, System of A Down?
58:21🔗CallerWell, John is a biblical name. Oh, you're talking about something else.
59:42🔗CallerWhen I was about eight years old, I was molested by my neighbor and he molested me and he molested his son. Now, I'm bisexual, I guess. What I'm trying to figure out, I'm so confused. Was I born bisexual or was I made a bisexual because of what my neighbor did to me?
1:00:38🔗CallerNo, they moved about five years. I don't know where they are now. I really don't care.
1:00:45🔗DrewWell, Matthew, as far as your original question of is it your history that caused this, on this program we talked to hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of sexually confused people and every single one of them have this history.
1:00:57🔗AdamBut those are the people that call this show.
1:00:59🔗DrewThose are the people that call this show, of which Matthew is one. Right. And it certainly has a dramatic impact on people's sexual orientation.
1:01:07🔗AdamOkay. So here's the deal, Matthew. Some people are born gay and some people are born by and some people are made gay or made by in the lab. This is at least what my experience tells me. The lab meaning your neighbor's house in this case. But the problem is whether you're born that way or whether you were created.
1:01:53🔗AdamRight. So now, here's the question, Matthew. If you don't want to be bi, then and you think that this trauma is what caused you to be bi, then I bet if you did some work on that trauma in therapy, that you might be able to take a bite out of the binus and not the anus.
1:02:16🔗AdamYou understand, Matthew? But here's the deal. It's not your fault whether it be nature nurture or neighbor. It's not your fault. That's the way you are. Don't hate yourself. But if you feel... Yeah?
1:02:32🔗CallerI feel like that if... I don't understand it because why am I the one that he chose to be bi?
1:02:44🔗AdamAnybody who's ever been in a car accident can ask that question.
1:02:47🔗CallerWhy me? I've been depressed since I was... since I was eight years old.
1:02:54🔗AdamRight. Well, this guy is a horrible guy and you were victimized. And that's a horrible thing. But it doesn't mean your life is over. Yeah, that's this guy, man.
1:03:01🔗CallerThe other thing is my dad is a reverend. And he's a Pentecostal preacher.
1:03:32🔗AdamYou need to find a therapist and talk to them. I mean, you have to do some work because you didn't get through your childhood unscathed. You had some major S go down. It's going to affect your life, but you're an intelligent guy, you're a articulate guy. You sound like even though you've been through what you've been through, you got your head screwed on pretty straight. And you're probably a couple years of therapy away from really having the kind of life that you want to have. So that's what you have to do. But unfortunately now you have to go to work. I mean, it's sort of like, I'll get back to my car accident analogy, it's like somebody broadsided you, some drunk driver, while you're sitting in a red light. Jesus Christ, Anderson. Anderson, what did you do? Did you do some acts before you came in here tonight?
1:04:18🔗AdamThe point is, is you can sit around and talk about why you shouldn't be doing rehab, but you're going to be sitting around in your wheelchair for the rest of your life unless you do it. It's a lot of work, it's not your fault. It was a drunk driver, you didn't deserve it. But there's a bottom line here, which is you got to go through rehab now if you want to walk again. And this is what Matthew has to do. He was horribly victimized, got to do therapy.
1:04:42🔗CallerMaybe you should take some time off from relationships with either sex for a little while until you figure out what's going on.
1:04:55🔗CallerOkay, check it out. I have two stepsisters. One of them 16, one of them is 18. I'm feeling very, very attracted to the one that is 16. I got sexually involved with the one that's 18 when she was 17. It got me kicked out of the house.
1:05:28🔗CallerThere you go. Jesus Christ. Let me see here. I don't know what's going on. Recently or lately, I've been thinking that I got involved with the older one because I was trying to get closer to the younger one, but she was way too young.
1:06:05🔗AdamLet me just make sure we're on the same page here. You made a move on the 18-year-old when she was 17. You had sex with her. How old were you at the time? 23. 23. That got you kicked out of the house. Now you're out of the house?
1:06:40🔗CallerCan I ask you a question? How long have they been your family? How old were you when your stepmom or dad got together with your real mom or dad? So pretty much you watched these two girls grow up, like, their whole lives, right?
1:06:58🔗System of A DownWell, half of them. Half of their lives.
1:07:00🔗AdamWell, I mean, the girls were like five and seven when you met them.
1:07:05🔗CallerThat's what I mean. Like, you kind of, I don't know, the situation you're in is kind of weird because it's not like they got together when they were older. So, you know, in a way, they are really your sisters.
1:07:37🔗AdamRyan, but here's, let me explain a couple of things. First off, let me explain life. You don't get to do every goddamn thing you feel like doing. You understand? Yeah. You feel like nailing a friend's wife. You don't get to do it. Exactly. You feel like banging your stepsister. You don't get to do it. I know every time you go to a 7-Eleven, you just want to reach across the counter and grab some of that cash for your ride home, but you don't get to do it. You understand? All right. You're 24. Start acting like an adult. Would you jackass?
1:08:59🔗AdamCome on, quiz me on Taboo II. Come on, see what you got.
1:09:03🔗System of A DownOkay, what happens the morning after the mother finds out about the brother and sister? What does the brother do before he leaves?
1:09:14🔗AdamLet's see, dad's going out of town on business. Junior, who's the-
1:09:48🔗System of A DownNo, what does the brother do before mom finds out and he leaves? He already did his sister. And then they wake up in the morning.
1:09:56🔗AdamOh, right. He's in his sister's room and he's in bed with his sister the morning after. And does mom come banging on the door? Somebody knocks on the door.
1:10:32🔗AdamI've been looking for that since high school.
1:10:34🔗System of A DownI have almost every classic porn there is.
1:10:37🔗AdamSeriously though. Taboo II is the one I want.
1:10:39🔗CallerBy the way, incidentally, Caligula just came out on DVD.
1:10:42🔗AdamOh, really? Yeah. That's good. Okay. One more time with the theme song.
1:10:45🔗CallerOoh, baby, I want to get, I want to get.
1:10:52🔗CallerIt's a classic. Even the soundtrack is classic.
1:10:55🔗AdamDrew, I can't believe you haven't seen Taboo II.
1:10:57🔗CallerYou're not living. You are not living life.
1:10:59🔗CallerIt's like not seeing Deep Throat. All right.
1:11:01🔗System of A DownThat guy was living Taboo II though.
1:11:02🔗AdamI'll tell you. All right. Well, there you go. Now, who's the connoisseur? We're going to take a little break. System of A Down is here. Do you guys live, anyone live near the studio? Not here. You can't run back to the house.
1:11:16🔗CallerI'll make you a copy. Don't worry about it. I'll make you a copy of it.
1:11:20🔗System of A DownWe got a lot of stuff you might want.
1:11:22🔗AdamHere's the problem with porn. I kind of need it tonight.
1:11:26🔗System of A DownNow that you think about it.
1:11:27🔗CallerWell, it's not like we have it in the car with us.
1:11:48🔗AdamI tell you, I can't handle that place because it's like a blimp hanger in that it's so big and I get lost in the porn section. I don't come out for days.
1:11:57🔗AdamI'm dehydrated. The light hurts when I step out into the street because I go in at night and I come out and the sun has come up. Oh, very painful.
1:12:06🔗CallerI'm sure we can round up a company for you.
1:12:48🔗AdamThat's also the name of the CD. And well, I'll give those dates where we can find them out in a little bit. Well, where you can see them, I'm sorry. We'll get to the phones first.
1:13:15🔗CallerThis girl, I've liked her for a while, and I asked her out today, and she said, yeah. So she told me to call her, and I called her tonight. Then she told me that she's not ready to commit, but she still wants to do everything boyfriends and girlfriends do.
1:13:33🔗System of A DownHit it up. There you go. You got it made. How old are you? 15? Yeah. That's it. Finished.
1:13:38🔗AdamYou haven't been on a date with her though yet?
1:14:42🔗CallerNo, you're going to end up liking her and then you're going to end up getting her.
1:14:44🔗CallerWell, I've liked her ever since last year.
1:14:46🔗AdamAll right, but David, here's what we're trying to get and here's what the jury is still out on. I'm not sure if she likes you or she's giving you the run around. Now, you asked her out today.
1:15:02🔗AdamAnd she said, call me tonight. Yeah. So you called her and she said, I'm not ready to commit, but we can do everything that boyfriends and girlfriends do.
1:15:59🔗CallerHere's what I'm saying. Stay away from your best friend's ex-girlfriend's, man. That's not good. That's just not a good habit to make in your life. You're 15 years old.
1:16:07🔗AdamWell, listen, he's desperate and it's too late. And I'm wondering about the two hour before school commitment.
1:16:42🔗DrewDon't be surprised if he's sitting there by himself.
1:16:44🔗CallerYou know, that sounds like what holds him back.
1:16:48🔗AdamYeah. And listen, that ain't the most romantic time or setting. Now, I'll meet you in the pavilion about 6.45 in the morning before PE and we'll stand around in there in the cold.
1:17:10🔗I'm a big fan of Loveline and System of A Down. I'm not familiar with your music, but you sound really cool. My problem is that basically I'm 21. I've never had a girlfriend really except for back in elementary school, never kissed a girl, never held hands with a girl, anything like that. I'm just having a lot of problems, man. There's nothing really wrong with me. I just have problems keeping a girl's interest, I guess you could say. I've gone out on dates, but nothing ever comes out of it. Tried to follow up on things and nothing ever works out.
1:17:43🔗CallerAre you too anxious maybe and freaks them out?
1:17:46🔗Because I'm nervous right now, but I'm not like a geek or anything.
1:17:53🔗AdamHere's the problem and here's what happens. A guy has a small window to establish himself, not only to the women, but to himself about the women. That's like age 14 to maybe 17. And if you have a dry three or four years in there, then you look at yourself as sort of a loser with women, and then they smell that loser stink on you, and now your confidence is shaken and you're screwed.
1:18:20🔗CallerBecause girls are like animals. They sense things without you even saying it. So if you don't have that confidence level, they'll know it and they'll feed off of it.
1:18:29🔗AdamRight. Whereas guys, we like to see a woman who's down on her luck, who's not feeling too good about herself. That's easy prey.
1:18:36🔗AdamThat's right. I mean, there's nothing better than especially an attractive woman who somehow her ego has been jarred a little bit and you're the one who's going to build her back up again. Guys are into that. Women, they don't like that. And James, and I know that it's an age-old story. There's nothing wrong with the way you look. You're a nice guy. Your teeth are fairly straight.
1:19:15🔗AdamJames, you grab a Steno pad and take some notes here.
1:19:18🔗DrewYou and I have talked about it like in many of our long trips, but we've talked about it on the air here.
1:19:22🔗CallerWell, the more a girl thinks you want sex from her, the less likely she is to give it to you. If you act like you don't care, or if you really don't care, that's probably when you're going to get it.
1:19:31🔗System of A DownYou got to act like a girl.
1:19:33🔗AdamYeah, but how do you fake not caring? Very easy. You can't fake it. They smell it.
1:19:43🔗AdamNow, here's the question I want to ask everybody in the room, and it's something I've often looked back on in my own horrible social career and thought about, which is all the time you spent thinking about whether you should make a move or not and all the planning and everything you did in high school and the scheming and all the strategizing and all that.
1:20:02🔗AdamHow many times in your life, really, have you gone to kiss a girl or make a move on a girl and have them turn you down? I mean, if you really break it down, it's not that often. You know what I'm saying? I mean, just about every girl in your life, whether it was on a date or at a club or wherever it was or even just some friend whose sparks were flying between the two of you, that you've tried to plant a kiss on has kissed you back. I would say it probably happens 95% of the time over a guy's life, yet he has to examine each and every one as if it's not going to work out. And after you've had a few successes, you go into your next one with that momentum, just assuming it's going to work out.
1:21:00🔗DrewHe doesn't even have the skill. He has never had the skill, never developed the skill.
1:21:04🔗AdamBut the skill is nothing but the incentive, or not the incentive, but the wherewithal to do it.
1:21:11🔗DrewIt's like saying, like, public speaking. I didn't know I could get up and give a talk, let's say. But once you've done it, you've done it, and even if you knew what you were going to say, until you've done it, you didn't know you could do it.
1:21:23🔗AdamIt's a good analogy, because it's not as if you're smarter, or your vocabulary grew, or you're any funnier, or more intelligent, it's just you've done the public speaking before, and the next time you get up on stage, it ain't no big deal, because you already did it.
1:22:07🔗AdamAll right. System of A Down is here, and this one is called Spiders. There you go. What is that applause? System of A Down. That was Spiders off of System of A Down, the CD. Live. We were just debating the best strategy to make that move with women. And I agree with John, which is you don't want to let him know you're too desperate. And that's why at the top of every date, I announced to them boldly, we will not be having sex. Not going to happen. Try and get me drunk.
1:26:13🔗AdamIf you get me loaded enough and I get enough surf and turf in me, you might be able to perform some oral sex on me, but that is as close as you're getting and not many women have climbed that mountain.
1:26:24🔗AdamConsider the gauntlet laid down, honey. You have your work cut out for you. And yes, they present it as a challenge that way. And then they're in trouble.
1:26:31🔗CallerWhy do you think girls like gay guys so much? They want to hook up with something that's impossible to get.
1:26:35🔗AdamYeah, that and their skin is so good. You know, I think it has to do with it. You ever see gay guys? They're just so pretty. Gay guys' skin actually shines. It's not enough that they don't have any zits. It glows.
1:26:46🔗CallerWhat do they take care of themselves? All the protein?
1:26:49🔗AdamThey're radiant. Stop. All right. So stop. We're going to take ourselves a little break and when we come back, we'll speak to, who are we going to speak to, Drew? Come on, get with it. Jessica? Yes, she has an itchy rash on her vagina.
1:27:05🔗System of A DownWe would have known about that.
1:27:41🔗AdamIt's Loveline. I'm Adam, that's Drew. System of A Down is our guest tonight. That's also the name of the CD. Find them. Well, they're sold out here in Los Angeles, but if you're around Portland, you can find them on the 8th of December, 10th in Austin, 11th in San Antonio, and then it's off to Europe for the Sabbath reunion tour.
1:28:29🔗CallerI mean, you're talking about history here in the making.
1:28:31🔗AdamWell, has Sabbath had a reunion in a while?
1:28:35🔗System of A DownThrough the whole summer? That's what we opened up for during the Ausfest.
1:28:38🔗CallerYeah, they had that whole tour in the summer. And I think basically they just want to go ahead and pursue their own personal careers in the music business.
1:28:46🔗System of A DownI think it's the last two Sabbath shows ever, and that's what we're doing. It's not like a Sabbath reunion tour that we're doing.
1:29:49🔗AdamThe good thing about Grant, it was on the same campus as Valley College, so the kids could just walk across the street after they graduated and go over there.
1:30:42🔗CallerIt's like, it's itchy, but then if, like, I go touch it, it hurts.
1:30:46🔗DrewWell, that's herpes until proven otherwise.
1:30:49🔗CallerBut, no, is there like blisters on it? Or is there?
1:30:51🔗DrewIt doesn't even matter. If it's burning and it's a rash, it's herpes until proven otherwise. It may just be yeast. It could be yeast. It could be vaginitis of other causes.
1:30:59🔗System of A DownHave you gotten it checked out?
1:31:04🔗CallerBefore you have sex again, by the way.
1:31:05🔗DrewIt could be. Almost any sexually transmitted disease can present like that, but anything that's erupted and burning is herpes until proven otherwise.
1:31:13🔗AdamHey, Jessica? All right. So, shouldn't you be using some birth control?
1:31:18🔗CallerI haven't gone to the doctors yet to get it.
1:31:56🔗CallerWhat's up? I've been, first off, like, Adam and Drew, I've been listening to you guys since I was, like, 12. And in System of A Down, I've had to shoot you for, like, a year, and you guys, like, kick butt.
1:32:07🔗CallerYes, man. And anyway, I have this friend of mine, Michael. He's, like, 14 years old. And I just found out today that he's planning on getting married, like, over Christmas break.
1:32:37🔗CallerShe's, like, 14, too. I want to, like, convince him, like, not to marry this, like, not to get married so young, you know what I'm saying?
1:32:46🔗CallerAnd I knew that Adam would have some good advice, you know? And I know he's listening.
1:32:49🔗AdamGo, Adam. Now, listen, if I cared, I would. But I'm done saving the world. You guys are all on your own. You hear me? I'm going to get back to my model airplanes and my masturbation and call it a life.
1:33:03🔗AdamListen, you listeners better hope that Taboo II doesn't show up at my house and I'm not leaving. Get an ISDN line put in. I'll call in the rest of the year. Penis will fall off.
1:33:13🔗CallerHow can, I don't understand how both sets of parents are agreeing to this.
1:33:17🔗CallerDude, they think they're, like, joking. And then another friend of mine is going to drive them up there to get married.
1:33:46🔗CallerYes. Are you saying I should treat him like a loser?
1:33:48🔗AdamNo. I'm saying stop hanging out with him. He's an idiot. He's getting married. You're a senior in high school. You're hanging around with a 9th grader.
1:34:09🔗AdamCan you imagine when you were a senior in high school, kicking it with a 9th grader? I mean, unless it was some chick or something, maybe, but even that's a little weird. But nothing in it for you except for some bad companionship.
1:34:24🔗CallerUnless you're playing Dungeons and Dragons.
1:34:50🔗CallerAlso, I want to know if you guys remember me from the Minneapolis airport. You guys were going back to LA from like Iowa or something. It was me and my cousin, and I gave you guys like a piece of gum.
1:35:35🔗AdamNo, I was standing in a cloud of weed 10 minutes ago. Are you kidding? Cloud of it. Yeah. You're 17? Yeah. You got out of rehab. Now you only last a minute, actually.
1:35:48🔗CallerYeah, because I went eight months having sex when I was in rehab.
1:35:53🔗CallerThen I got out. The day I got out, I went over to my girlfriend's house and we had sex and it lasted a minute. I thought it was just because I went eight months. Then we did it the next day and the last day it seemed like it was shorter. And it's just been happening ever since. And I've been out for like five months now.
1:36:11🔗DrewBut maybe that's the difference. Maybe you're functioning more normally because you're not on drugs.
1:36:15🔗CallerWhy don't you have more sex like you have for a minute and then have it again like about half an hour later and then a little longer and then the third time.
1:36:26🔗AdamYeah. Well, listen, here's the deal. This will work itself out. In meanwhile, don't get her pregnant. You understand? Because Dan, you know, Dan's like, don't worry, baby, I'll pull out.
1:36:41🔗CallerIt's like, he doesn't even time to pull in.
1:36:43🔗AdamYeah, I didn't even get in yet. His pull out is on the out stroke. It's on the first out stroke. That's his definition of pulling out. One in and then I'm out. It's like when I dip my foot in the pool to see if it's cold. All right.
1:37:51🔗CallerYou know, thank you for everybody who's supported us over the years and especially to my friends, Brett and all you guys, all the Glendale boys, everybody out there. Thank you very much.
1:38:01🔗AdamAnd until next time, this is Adam Carolla for Dr. Drew saying mahalo.
